The Hamakua Ranch House (built in 1900) is the place to truly relax and get away from it all. This completely renovated historic home was the original Ranch Manager’s House for Kukaiau Ranch. The Hamakua Ranch House is conveniently located with unlimited choices of things to see and do on the Big Island. There are two suites in the main house and a separate guest cottage.

Relaxation is defined as a stay at Hamakua Ranch House. My wife and I were fortunate to spend 3 nights there in the Paniolo cottage. Its a great place to return to after a long day exploring the island or a perfect place to just escape to for a few days. Start the day sipping coffee sitting on the porch watching the horses in the pasture and the ocean in the distance. End the day sitting in the same chair with a glass of wine looking at the stars in the darkened sky. Unless you're looking for the crowds, noise and lots of traffic, you can't miss by choosing Hamakua Ranch House.

Our family of 3 just came home from a wonderful 2 week trip to Hawaii and Hamakua Ranch House was a highlight. Our loft was comfortable and spacious. It has a full kitchen and Terri will supply you with anything you need. The grounds are amazing with eucalyptus forests and expansive pastures for the horses, goats, chickens and dogs. My young child loved the animals and Terri was very kind to provide a ride on the horse and allowing her to feed the chickens and goats. She even got to experience "wildlife" with a trapped mongoose and is already pestering me to go back to see Boo Bear and Dixie (the resident dogs)! And don't miss Donna's Cookies on the Highway before the turn off to the property. The mac nut cookies are addictive!

What a beautiful and unique place! It was our first visit to the Big Island and didn't really know what to expect from a ranch house - we were thinking more "Home on the Range" and we got more like "Take Me Home, Country Roads" to a little oasis in the mountains. What an amazing surprise! The picture does it no justice - the whole thing is luxe all the way from the view, the accommodations, innkeepers. I won't even get into how great the beautifully furbished bedroom and modern bathroom was. It was by far one of the nicest places we've stayed in. I read in askance at the reviewer who wasn't thrilled with their visit. Guests are warned in advance about the ride in. Heck- people would pay to take the road in, especially when you are looking at Mauna Loa on one side and the ocean on the other while driving through verdant pasture land replete with steers, sheep, etc. Tension unwinds on the the way into the B&B. We had magnificent weather and looking out over the hills down to the ocean from our bed was indescribable. Terri and Tin were perhaps two of the most personable hosts imaginable and the breakfasts were excellent. There were two cottages that would be perfect for those traveling with children, who incidentally would love the farm animals who look like they came from a picture book! cI can't say enough nice things about Hamakua Ranch and highly recommend it.

Beautiful property carved out of the remnants of a historical ranch. Buildings and gardens well maintained. We stayed in the Mermaid Room with excellent bed, patio, bathroom with large walk-in shower and a whirlpool tub. Property is very remote and drive from Hilo and off main highway (6+ miles) can be trying at end of a day. And remember, it does rain considerably on East side of island. B and B does have free laundry facilities with detergent provided. Separate (rear) access to Mermaid Room provided by keypad - nice touch. The views of snow-covered Mauna Kea pn one side and the ocean on the other are stunning. Property sits high upon a hilltop. Our complaints with this "Bed and Breakfast" are threefold: 1. Breakfast was not at all becoming of a great B and B (food at times only fruit and an onion bagel with cream cheese) 2. WIFI is very weak and unreliable (read non-functional) 3. Location is VERY remote

For a local Oahu resident, we like to visit the other islands from time to time. We always put the big island last because of limitations of venues or cool places to stay. NO MORE! The big island experience at the Hamakua Ranch House has no equal. The views... hospitality... accommodations...are all worthy of a "Luxe Brand". You will not be disappointed with the attention to detail and the spirit of Aloha that engulfs you the moment you are welcomed by the hosts. We are coming back .... Top Notch!!!
