Awful experience! It looked ok, people were respecful. But then came the evening. Cockroaches were running everywhere. They were in our bags, on the bed, in our shoes. I complained, they were sorry, but told this is normal, and kinda gave me a strange look asking why? I can't sleep like this. Weird!!!!!! First we thought we try to handle... More

The room was nicely done up. But under the bed were two dead cockroach. As we lay in our bed the cockroach came in our bed... Wasn't a good night. In the morning we checked out. Maybe it was a individual case, but it was the last time for us in this hostel.

Stayed here one night, now while I'm glad we were not camping in the terrible weather east coast Hawaii has all the time I was so thankful for a bed and no sand. The place is old and smells like animals. They have a dog that wanders round and about 5 birds. Beds are full of stains and hairs, showers... More

Stayed at the hostel in June and to say there is no air conditioning, it is a pretty cool temperature inside which was great. The showers and toilets are separate to each other, as are the male and female showers/toilets. When I arrived, there was only one female toilet working (there are only two for the whole hostel to begin... More

It's a very nice and clean place, but the manager Terry seems shady. I get the impression that they'll do anything to make a buck. There is a limit to how many guests one can put in a room and still be comfortable. Also, I heard that I payed full price while the other guests they squeezed in got a... More

Aloha, We are truly sorry that you felt unfairly treated. We are a busy hostel with limited rooms and each of us try to accommodate everyone as much as possible especially when we have groups staying with us. If this is around the time we had a group in house then Terry did give a discount to a guest who... More

Million dollar staff!!! I love this place and will stay here time and time again!! Location is great for anyone who wants to see the ocean since it's a 2 minute walk from the sea! Kitchen is great, bathrooms are extremely clean and beds are softer than clouds. If people complain about lack of privacy, "cold showers" or unfriendly staff,... More

Physically a very beautiful hostel (lots of wood/interesting pictures/artefacts/furniture/patio area off the kitchen and overall the hostel has a stylist lay out. What makes this hostel very special is it's gentle and caring staff members and the hostel offers the delightful presence of Roxie, the hostel terrier. The hostel also has birds (in cages) who all have interesting characters. Yes... More

It wasn't a nice experience. The building is very run down and dirty. There's ants running around the kitchen and mouse/rat droppings in the lower cupboards. The showers aren't hot and are very old with cheap fittings. The mens shower is even attached to the kitchen with a gap at the top where people can hear you shower from the... More

This hostel isn't perfect. It's in an old building (former hotel), and the showers aren't hot. But what makes the place worth five stars is the management. I had checked in on a Thursday morning before going to my property in Naalehu to do some work. That afternoon, while on my way back to Hilo, I blacked out and hit... More

We had a room with private bathroom. No mosquito nets on the windows. Ceiling fan did not work. We had a stand-up fan in the room which was incredibly filthy. The room was extremely noisy. Upside: we had a mini fridge in the room. Parking lot in diagonal to the hotel.
