The rooms are available only by booking on the net and the phone. It has 6 or 7 available rooms, accessible with a combination lock from the outside. The rooms are spacious, and breezy, on the second floor of the converted house. There were only two rooms occupied including our own when we stayed. The bathroom is adequate, with an...

I decided on the Pakalana Inn and booked our 3 night stay in the 'Ekahi room, easily, through their website. The inn is centrally located and well looked after, clean and I really liked how it's accessed by keypad. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable, loved being able to have the windows open as we...

Centrally located, clean and well run, with contentious thoughtful service. Our family of four stayed for one night in a room with a king-size bed and a pull out couch, which worked great. There is a kitchenette in the room, though we did not use it, but if we had younger kids it would have been really helpful. Also helpful...

Neil saved us! Moving to the BI from the mainland with our dog, our house was a little late closing. We needed a place that was dog friendly for a few days and I was getting desperate when I saw the Pakalana Inn on Lavadogs808 site. When I asked Neil,if he had a room that would take a golden retreiver...

Our room in the Pakalana Inn was a bit like Hilo itself: reminiscent of an older Hawaii before resorts, high rises and condos. And I liked them both for exactly that reason. The window louvres caught the breeze off the bay, the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot - although the shower curtain arrangement was a little idiosyncratic....

This is a good one, guys! Rooms are convenient and comfortable, with self check-in and number-pad doors that miraculously work. It's small (I think 5 rooms) and walkable to anywhere in Hilo. We stayed in the smallest (read: cheapest) room no. 2. Had everything we needed, even a little kitchenette. It got maybe a bit noisy with the street but...

We enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are nicely done. It was great for us to have a fridge and microwave. It was like being in a studio apartment. The owner very friendly and helpful by a simple phone call or email. However, no fault of the owner, this place is not for a light sleeper. It is an old...

After a repair/maintenance trip on my own vacation home, I needed a place to stay one night in quaint Hilo Town. What a glorious find; Pakalana Inn. Arriving after dark, I was a bit concern of the little worn building, but was pleasantly astonished when I opened the key coded door. A friend had made the reservations so I never...

You would never guess what a cute and comfortable small inn this is, from the old storefronts on the street level. Small good restaurant on ground floor. Next door to large farmers'market. Close walk to many restaurants, and not far from beach front parks.Would stay here again.
