The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls sits among 22 lush, natural acres, surrounding Hawaii’s largest privately accessible waterfall. The Kulaniapia experience is like no other, just 15 minutes from town, but completely away. Whether you come for relaxation, adventure or both, nothing quite prepares you for how much you find of each.
Those seeking adventure are invited to sign up with the Kulaniapia Adventures team for a guided, 120 foot rappel down our namesake waterfall.
Accommodations are provided in several asian inspired buildings providing accommodations ranging from standard/waterfall view rooms and family suites, to fully detached cottages and a Pagoda Guest House with a full kitchen.
Enjoy a wholesome, locally sourced breakfast and the big island’s best coffee, all while enjoying the view of our namesake falls each morning.
Coming after a long working day at an event, we found ourselves unwind as we were driving up the country road leading to Inns at Kulaniapia Falls. The expanded lush green with large tropical trees soothed our soul, and the fresh air from the open windows to the Jasmine room mixed with the sandalwood scent set us at home. The harmony house is indeed harmonious, with ancient or vintage themed Chinese art and furniture and generous space. We walked down the bamboo trail and waded and kayaked in the little lake under the waterfall... Thanks for sharing this piece of heaven with us! The entire property is powered by self-generated renewable energy. Lots of work have been done to create and maintain the immaculate property, and it seems that they are continuing to improve. We will surely come back again to visit our "home from home". Mahalo!…
We had such a fantastic visit! From the very kind and friendly check in and tour, the beautiful and clean room with a waterfall view from the window and lanai, to the amazing experience of swimming/kayaking/paddle boarding in the waterfall pool, to the beautiful grounds, and finally to the delicious breakfast…it was all just great and we hope to come back for a longer stay soon. We were surprised how close and convenient the location is to Hilo activities, yet still you get that rural feel. Great unique facility, highly recommend!
The Kulaniapia Falls Inn really does have the best pool - at the bottom of a 130 foot waterfall! The staff was welcoming, as was the location. We admit to being in one of the less expensive rooms, in which we had a rollaway bed added, so space was tight. A pleasant surprise was the additional kitchen in the Harmony House, where we were able to find a great selection of snacks and a fridge in which to store our own food.
Arriving was like coming home. Perfekt mixture of kind of camping style in the beautyfull cabin and staying simple as well as having comfort and friendliest service. Thanks for everythig, perfekt breakfast with best Coffee ever had, wonderful fresh fruits (love apple bananas) all the places and views, frogs concert, lazy barn sofas, bamboo path and this area down by the waterfalls. amazing! You want to be taken out of time? Come here...
You eat your included, delicious breakfast next to an amazing waterfall. It was awesome. It is a bit of a drive outside of town, so be prepared. My grandmother was upset that there wasn't a TV in the room, but I think she got over it. The nature was more than enough.
After a week of beach on the West Side of the Big Island, Hawaii, my wife and I decided we wanted to spend a weekend on the East Side in and around the beautiful rainforests and waterfalls. We couldn't have picked a better place than The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls for that. The views! Truly spectacular. The place is simple but wonderfully fitted out for a nice couple nights surrounded by green. The staff are truly excellent (special shout out to Lexi who was so inviting and friendly we felt right at home right away), and the whole property is pristine. Our room had it's own little private deck which meant we could sit out well into the evening and just be amongst the sounds of nature. The dinner that's on offer when you make a reservation is definitely worth it (Lisa and John, you were wonderful hosts) and is fantastic. It's tasty food, cooked well, without being challenging or too over the top. Our only note: There's not much close-by for food or drink outside of the supplied breakfast (which was also tasty) so be sure to pack yourself all the food you need for the day/night from Hilo (and maybe a bottle of wine) to enjoy yourself before you make the drive in. It's not THAT far away from things if you need to but it's also not super convenient to get back in the car and have to leave again. Highly recommend you visit! We were there for two nights and that was about perfect.…
Pros: - WATERFALL. Right next to the largest private waterfall, amazing experience to have breakfast with waterfall view. - TRAIL. Nice trails to the waterfall, beautiful bamboo garden. - SERVICE. All the staffs are super helpful and friendly. Cons: - NOISE. noise from other guests. This is more like a homestay rather than hotel, at least for the rooms in "Harmony" house. You can hear upstair guests footsteps and other guests closing the room doors in early morning or at night. - SMELL. The room has some kind of smells, maybe from the vintage furnitures or the wood floor - CLEANLINESS. Cleanliness can be better, I found a long hair in the new towels they provided Overall, I would say it would be good experience for a day or two.
Outstanding location with an outstanding staff - this is not your ordinary stay - even in Hawaii - be ready to be blown away ! Don’t be concerned about the lack of AC - you won’t need it. The owner and staff are very helpful and friendly. We highly recommend the Inn!
My dad and I stayed at the falls for a day and just had the best time. It was such a peaceful and happy environment. The waterfall was absolutely incredible to see; and my dad and I actually got to rappel down the side of the waterfall. Highly recommend staying at the Kulaniapia Falls Inn next time you’re in Hilo!
Really enjoyed staying here. It's off the beaten path yet just minutes to downtown Hilo with a lovely view overlooking the bay. Loved being near the waterfall and being able to swim in it. Paddleboards and kayaks were also available for our use. Grounds and room were well kept and quite beautiful/peaceful. Staff was very friendly. Loved going to sleep each night to the sounds of the nightlife (frogs, crickets, etc.!) and waking up each morning to the songbirds. When returning to the Big Island, would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.
