It's an old school hotel, a really lovely, 50's kind of place that feels kinda like staying with family–all of which I love. (I personally prefer a boutique or a unique hotel experience to a commercial same-everywhere kind of stay.) The staff were really helpful, welcoming and sweet. Room clean and functional. View and decor excellent. It's not fancy. But...

This is a family owned Hotel, and your are treated like family the moment you step through the open and spacious registration area. If you are going to be out and about exploring the Big Island this is the place. No it is not like the Kona side of the Island with it's huge resorts. It is a place to...

After spending several nights at a brand new hotel in Kona it seemed like we went back to the fifties when we got to the Seaside Hilo. While the property is outdated it is clean. The property has no elevator even though some areas have three floors. It was OK for one night and the gardens in the courtyards are...

Stayed here a couple times and it well kept. Neat hawaiian history room and great views. Staff very helpful and the hotel is located close to downtown Hilo. It's a great base for people who like to explore and take in the sights. Don't really need much more than that.

The Hilo Seaside Hotel rightly makes play its local Hawaiian family ownership. This still gives it a distinctive and different feel from the staff through to the "family museum". Dated round the edges with ancient air conditioning and rooms that are somewhat dated, the site has something of a 1950s feel. Our room should have been one large bed with...

Coming from the Kona size, I was surprised that there aren't any resort properties (Four Seasons,Sheraton, etc) in the Immediate Hilo area. This location was what we wanted and chose the Hilo Seaside. Quaint and quirky. First experience was toting luggage to the third floor without an elevator-not the easiest, but worth the bay view. Room is basic and bathroom small...

This is a hotel compound, with museum, pool, gardens, and restaurant as well as several wings of rooms. We enjoyed our stay and felt welcomed. Not a highrise built on piers on the shore, this feels like Hawaii. We enjoyed seeing a plover right in the fountain near the front door and geckos in the courtyard.
