We have been loyal patrons of the Victoria for the last 7 years. But after our most recent stay we won't be going back. The food and service has always been fairly dubious, but we had always turned a blind eye because of the beautiful location and characterful hotel. This time was frankly unacceptable. The attitude was generally unwelcoming and... More

The food was wonderful both breakfasts & evening meals Service also was excellent and child friendly A memorable stay enjoying the North... More

Lovely location and nicely designed interiors but food was disappointing and overpriced (even the children mentioned this as they tucked into great food at the Duck in Stanhoe & compared it with their much more expensive and no where near as good lunch at the Victoria). My soup was lacking in flavour & bread was served as an extra, the... More

Stopped here for lunch today after a walk on Holkham beach. Lovely building, well decorated, its really very good. However, not much sign of any form of management in the restaurant. Service slow, staff not apparently trained i.e. no updates on why its so slow, or help..or bringing stuff that can be delivered quickly; or extra care taken. Staff seem... More

This is a lovely place to eat with beautiful furnishings. I ordered the Samon en croute, which was priced at £17. I was expecting the best I had ever had for this price but sadly it came burnt on top and the rest of the pastry was undercooked. My parter had the lamb shank, which he enjoyed. It was very... More

Visited Saturday 22nd as a walk in of 6 on a Saturday afternoon, which is problematic at the best of times but staff were very friendly and accommodating, finding us a table very quickly and adding extra chairs for us. We were given menus and both myself and my mother were taken by the fishcake, poached egg, and hollandaise, which... More

Atmospheric hotel in a great location for walking straight out of the door...good things to do locally including Wells-next-the-sea. There is even an Adnam"s store next door! Its a long drive if you are coming from London though pand so a minimum two night stay for sure. The bar is the weak point...needs a serious rethink/upgrade/makeover...the lack of atmosphere is... On arrival we discovered that there was a mix up in our booking - mainly down to us-but we were welcomed with kindness, patience and the problem sorted out with great generosity. Our room was in the delightful annexe just a short walk from the hotel along a purpose built, nicely lit footpath. The room was absolutely wonderful with everything... More

Stopped in for lunch while walking, the beer is good here, I had my favourite scotch egg in black pudding, nice but not good this time and at £8 it should always be good, I did not say anything to the staff so will not say any more, We will stop again next month and will enjoy it again. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Standing at the gateway to Holkham and the National Nature Reserve, The Victoria is a classic English inn owned by the Coke family and managed by the Holkham Estate. There are ten elegant, indivually designed and stylish bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. We are ready to welcome more guests in spring 2015 with the addition of a further ten bedrooms just across the road from The Victoria in one of the oldest buildings on the Holkham Estate: Ancient House. The building has been converted to provide ten additional bedrooms, including four spacious family room. The sympathetic refurbishment has retained many of the building's original features, combining authentic charm with luxurious modernity. The bar and dining rooms at The Vic offer a relaxed blend of style and comfort. We serve delicious locally sourced food, much of it grown and raised on the estate, with a bold emphasis on freshness, simplicity and value. Holkham has been a leading agricultural estate since the 1800's when Thomas William Coke bought the site and the young Queen Victoria elevated him to the peerage in recognition of his contribution to farming in 1837. The name of the proposed new inn must have been inevitable when it opened its doors in 1838. ... more   less
