The Thomas Shepherd Inn offers guests the experience of gracious hospitality in an historic setting. Unique shops and restaurants are within walking distance. Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry are short drives away. Bike or hike on the C&O Canal Path 1/2 mile away. We offer six spacious, air-conditioned guest rooms with private baths. Our living room with fireplace, guest lounge with TV and porch overlooking our garden are available for your enjoyment. Full breakfast included.
My wife and I were going to a Wine Dinner in Shepardstown, so we chose this B&B so we could walk. From the point where we opened the door, we were in a home rather than a B&B with a doting aunt and uncle seeing to our every need. The room was well appointed with a small, but nice bath. The shower was wonderful, being a bit of a shower snob. Breakfast was excellent and abundant. Normally I visit a town for an event, and find a place to stay, Our next trip to Shepardstown may be to stay at the Inn and figure out something to do.

We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Our outdoor racks get covered with tarps every night when cyclists are here. Sometimes folks will lock their bikes on the covered patio or we will gladly put them in the cellar overnight. Keep cycling and we hope to see you again.
Recently stayed at the Thomas Shepherd Inn for a few nights and was extremely satisfied with the entire experience. From the moment we arrived we enjoyed the Inn and our hosts. The downstairs living room air furnished with very comfortable furniture where you can enjoy a hot or cold beverage, read, play a variety of games or just sit and chat.
Our room was spacious with convenient cupboards for clothes and racks for suitcases. The en-suite bathroom was modern and comfortable and the bed and bedding were very nice and comfortable.
Breakfast each morning was exceptional. Each morning we were greeted with a multi-course feast - coffee, tea, juice, smoothies, fruit, homemade muffins, yoghurt, bacon and various egg dishes - all of which was locally sourced. The meal presentation was absolutely 5-star. What a treat to have such amazing breakfast!
This Inn is conveniently located to the C&O canal should you be biking through. It is also just a short drive to Antietam Battlefield and Harper's Ferry - both of which should be visited and experienced.
I would absolutely recommend the Thomas Shepherd Inn if you're in the area! Thank you for a great stay.
I came for another stay and got very little sleep. With 11 other guests were visiting the bathroom in the hall throughout the night, my bed which is due for a new mattress and this morning all the other guests up at 6:30 a.m. stomping up and down the stairs....loud at breakfast I'm exhausted....the street noise from the latest suite is in escapable.... evem with I knew that from prior stays however hoped the innkeeper would remind the group of my need to sleep too. $230 and I'm drained with a conference to attend. I marvel at the last of consideration.
The breakfast was great. On check out the owner gave me a coupon for half off my next 2 night stay. I doubt I will ever use. It seemed obvious to me that they should have given me a discount on the room she said "everybody should be able to have a good night sleep."
I told both owners that I only got maybe 3 hours sleep the situation with 11 people and they knew that I wanted to sleep in because I them be down late for breakfast.
So if you don't want to sleep and you're just interested in staying in a house built in 1868 it's a great place to visit

We are so sorry your stay did not meet your expectations. It was an unusual set of circumstances to say the least. We did have a group of 11 cyclists staying that night who did request an early breakfast for the group. I'm sure it seemed like the multitudes were using the bathroom in the hall but that bath is private for the 2 guests that room is associated with. All the other rooms have en suite baths just as your room did.. An historic home with old and sometimes creaky floors can be a challenge when it comes to noise, either in house or from the street. We have extra panes of glass in some rooms to cut down on street noise but 11 people leaving early will cause extra early morning noise. We did not notice anything excessive probably because we were preoccupied making breakfast and for that inattention we are truly sorry. We wish for all our guests to have an enjoyable time and clearly you did not. Knowing that you have stayed at the inn several times in the past without issue, we do hope you will give us a chance to redeem the Inn and, more importantly, give you pleasant and a worthwhile experience.
Lauren and Dave were amazingly thoughtful with every little thing. V generous and caring. And their pet parrots don’t say a squark at night! And Lauren’s breakfast was fabulous incl her “kick in pants” pick me up!
