This was our second trip staying here. We previously stayed 2 nights when Dave Matthews band was in town. There is so much to do here. You can hike, ride your bikes, find a launch and kayak or walk a few feet to a beach on the campground that over looks the bay. If you want to spend a night... More

First Landing State park has so much to offer! Beautiful beaches, incredible bike trails through forests that may look like they did in the 1600s. Wildlife, nature, history, beaches and fun all converge at First Landing State Park. You can see where Virginia began to take shape. An old lighthouse is open for you to navigate the steep steps and... More

Yes, that's all I can say, it's getting better than my last review of First Landing State Park. When walking on the beach after sunset, it is very difficult to find the boardwalks leading back to the park. These boardwalks should be marked with lights to mark them. My wife and I got lost last visit and on this visit... More

We recommend that park visitors walking after dark bring flashlights. Even with some lights on the end of the boardwalk, it really isn't enough to navigate comfortably. We try to avoid excess lighting so our visitors can enjoy the natural world. More

Made reservations six months in advance and was really looking forward to camping here. We arrived after the office closed to find our name on the wall assigned to Pink area. We drove around looking for a pink spot and immediately noticed the small roads. My husband was afraid we were going to get in an area and not going... More

I am sorry that your experience at First Landing was not to your liking. It is important to select the right size site so that you have plenty of room. A pink site was probably not the right size for your camping equipment. If you like private campgrounds, you will likely be disappointed by First Landing any way. The campground... More

We first visited this State Park several years and when we returned we found it basically the same - LOVELY. Our campsite in D Loop was secluded and allowed us to hear the surf at night. On Friday night there was military helicopters running maneuvers which served as entertainment while at the campfire. The bathrooms are dated, but always clean.... More

We love camping at the Virginia State Parks and this one was another winner. It is the busiest of the parks because of its great beach. this isn't your normal beach camping where you're in bright sun and sand. Most of the campsites are quite private as there is dune or trees separating them from your neighbor. There are some... More

We tried out our first tent camping experience here in October & fell in love. We reserved our basic (no water or electric) site (A17) online & were pretty happy with our choice. The only downside was that it backed up to the base gate so there was a lot of light, traffic & talking going on behind us through... More

Overall I agree with the positive reviews here. The biggest issue is the sites themselves. We booked at home in Michigan, reserving site C15. Somehow we missed that this was a narrow site intended for a 20' vehicle, and was too short for our 31' 5th wheel and tow truck- oops! So I called the office and fortunately we were... More

“Making a reservation does NOT guarantee a specific site. When you arrive you have to pick the first empty one allotted to what you reserved (ex. electric and water)..some sites are more private where some are in the complete open. Its a little awkward then if you are tent camping.”
