People who complain shouldn't travel if you can't accept a few imperfections. This place has always been rough around the edges but I didn't pay to go to Taj Mahal. The services helped me many times and did so with friendliness and smiles. I have been to this same hotel 7 times and LOVE it. The people are warm and kind. The food was great and the place was clean. I made many friends and wanting to go back ASAP. We love you Colonial🙂☀️❤️
my first room did not have a lock or key and I had to demand that they give me another, and in the other it was full of mosquitoes, the food was directed and of poor quality, on one occasion I had a worm in the salad, no hot water, the sheets stained and dirty, the back door did not lock, the air conditioning was barely cold, customer service is nonexistent, no phone signal and no internet, there was nothing to eat that I could buy in the cafeteria only rum, my visit was hell and I had to wait all those days because there were no tickets back to my country.
customer service is horrible. if you ask something sometimes they don't answer. lousy food and not very varied. the air conditioning broke and they didn't want to change our room, just because we weren't going the next day. i will never return.
We are regulars at this Resort..... Have holidayed here several times and the staff here is top notch.... Made many friends and are booked for January of 2022, Because of Covid the last stay was in January 2019 and have been aching to go back, we've been all over the Caribbean and it's the people that keep bringing us back here..... it's Cuba and they don't have a lot but what they do have is presented well.
I personally enjoy this villa/hotel style setting. The staff is amazing/friendly, The food is honestly pretty good and getting better every year. It is Cuba.... things don't always work but if YOU are high maintenance then YOU are the problem. They try with everything they have and sometimes just don't have the resources... you get what you pay for. Bottom line, this is a beautiful resort, on a kid friendly/walk for miles beach with great surroundings.
Liked the resort, staff couldn't do enough for you. Close to airport, but had to wait for our room, We were able to put our luggage in a locked room at the front desk. Room was clean, cafe door squeaked so much I had to put a little baby oil on the hinges. My biggest problem were the sand fleas, they liked us. The salt pool was closed witch bummed me out. Food was okay, this is Cuba. Entertainment was good, near the main building. Did the a la carte once, was good. Would I go back? Not unless the noseeums have moved on.
We have stayed at this resort about 10 times beginning in 1998 We love Cuba and have styaed at many other resorts as well but our heart belongs to the Coloniel. The resort has the best archetecture and despite setbacks and hard ships the CUBANS are doing a remarkable job keeping the place well maintained. The staff are fantastic and sipping a coffee or a cervesa on the patio of the main hotel enjoying the ambeance is my happy place. We appreciated meeting other Canadians there who get it. The staff are terrific and we appreciated their company and warmth and can see that they are doing a really great job with the line up of bands in the evenings and the service. It is hard to compete with so many new resorts being built all the time but none have the charm of the Coloniel. The hurricaine took a toll on this resort , not only destrying the foliage which is coming back slowly, but also the infastructure . We overlook some of the luxuries we can get here in canada as well as elsewhere as we know the staff do their best. We had a great trip this past week and enjoyed the comradary of other guests and the staff. There was no hot water but we all managed to keep clean nevertheless and did not let it ruin our enjoyment. They will get it it fixed -I have no doubt as well as the salt water pool. Many challenges. THE ac worked, our room was charming and centrally located , the food and drinks were great and there is no where else I would rather be . …
First of all, just let me say, we have been travelling to Cuba every year, since 2009, some years 2 and 3 times a year, so we know of the issues that some resorts have.... If you are a light sleeper, stay away from room 1431, it is directly across from the disco.. The best part of that building was it was close to the lobby, the buffet, The toilet may or may not work, it was iffy at any given moment, takes forever to refill ....A couple times we had to fill the tank, so that it would flush, because the tank was not refilling....Cold showers daily, one day it was luke warm....We had to play with the air conditioner, to find the right setting, the safe did not work....The lamps by the bed, have this tiny wire, on the metal block on the wall, that's what turns it on... Because occupancy was down, the buffet switched from one a la carte to the other, for a couple days, which made it confusing, and the time changed as well, and not very well organized, The food was the same pretty much everyday, fish pork chicken, ...and not much of it, towards the end of our stay, there were no cold cuts, Also, if you didn't want to go to the buffet the snack bars were closed.... The burgers at the pool snack bar, and pizzas, and frys were the best.... Not sure about the low attendance, could be the Corona virus, or the fact that the salt water pool has been empty for a month....The good thing about that you had your choice of loungers around the pool.... We had gone to the buffet for supper one night, we were there, maybe 45 minutes, when we were going to our room, there were 2 huge chunks of concrete that had fallen on the step, from beams above the steps, thankfully no one was on the steps at that time...not to mention 2 or more steps were in disrepair...I always stepped over them... I totally get why the regular clients like this resort, but we wont be back, They are working on it, they were working on the ocean view rooms behind the pool while we were there.... Another good thing was easy check in, They will give you a paper for towels, be sure to keep that, they ask for it when you check out....I always take my own, so i had no need for it, but knew I had to keep that paper.... The service is top notch, everyone was very nice, so give them a break, they work hard, the people at the lobby bar and pool bar take a lot of crap, be nice....…
My husband and I spent the last 2 weeks of February at this charming resort. After an "interesting" first couple of days, the kinks were worked out and we were free to enjoy our vacation. Yes, the resort is old and needs some lovin' but they're doing their best under the circumstances and our favourite spot soon became the verandah of the lobby. Much of our enjoyment came from the excellent service of Yael, Joel, Humberto, and Isabella...most excellent bartenders/servers!!! The buffet always had 2 grill stations going, with pasta, potatoes, vegetables and bread, oh, the bread was divine. There was a cold bar with salads, vegetables, cheeses and desserts, including ice cream. Thank you, Thaismary and Barbara for excellent service, and Oscar, for trusting us with the coffee cups. The grill chefs and our wonderful omelet chef, amazing job guys! My biggest thumbs up goes to the "animation team" who had the toughest job going. It's hard to get people to join when they just don't want to and Dayanny and Alexander did their best to get the guests moving. They were also invaluable in answering questions about Cuban life, Cayo Coco and the quaint resort that was their second home. Miss you kids. What makes this resort special is the staff that work their butts off to make our stay enjoyable and at the top of the list is Hendry, who acted as our concierge, excursion advisor, information center and lastly, our new friend. Thanks for the effort you put out for us Hendry. Cuban resorts are suffering from a shortage of some things due to the Venezuelan embargo but don't let that stop you from visiting. If you don't mind a few minor inconveniences, then this charming resort with it's warm hospitality, is the place for you. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the beach is FABULOUS!!!…
Our family has been to Cuba a number of times over the years and been at many good resorts. Hotel Colonial is not one of them. In fact Air Canada Vacations should be ashamed of themselves for selling anyone this vacation. We paid nearly $6000 for 2 adults, 1 teen and 1 child for a 2 room suite between the 29th of December 2019 and Jan 5th 2020 and sincerely regret it. The biggest drawbacks was the lack of hot water (cold showers only), ac not working, stomach bug we all got (we believe it was from the food) and lack of concern by the front desk staff. The positives for this resort are the beautiful beach and the friendly & accommodating staff. Our negative experiences are as follows: 1. We had to wait 3 hours to initially get our room and no restaurants or snack bar was open 2. The resort was a ghost town, few people, not music or activities going on. This changed around New Years Eve when about 500 local guests arrived and the resort was now overwhelmed with people. 3. In our suite 1 room had AC that only worked on the max setting and the other room the ac didn’t work at all. We called front desk and they said they would fix it but never did. 4. The bathroom roof leaked and caused a dangerous puddle of water on the tile floor which we nearly slipped on. The hotel again didn’t bother addressing this problem either. 5. The in room coffee maker didn't work. The balcony door handle constantly fell off. 6. Small variety of food (but plentiful when the resort is not busy). The meats are cooked in front of customers which often results in lineups despite it being a buffer. The few days around New Years there were too many people in the restaurant and the wait was unacceptable. One family we spoke to told us there teenage daughter was actually pushed out of line by another visitor. New Years morning our family didn’t have breakfast at all because of over crowding. 7. the kids club never opened during our stay 8. We found front desk staff not helpful or very friendly 9. The resort old and dilapidated, parts should be condemned , we saw cement chunks falling off balconies 10. There was No Hot Water – we only could take COLD showers. This is just not acceptable. 11. The equipment is old and in poor condition, for example the paddle we took out had taken on water and was sinking. 12. The toilet stopped working every two days, but someone did come within 2 hours each time to fix 13. One by one we all got what we believed to be food poisoning starting on the 4 day. I ended up off work for the following week and spent some time in urgent care. 14. We believe to be mould growing on ceiling vents in billiard/disco building Hope this helps anyone thinking out booking here.…
