I spent one night in this hotel with dinner and breakfest and can only tell that I had a great experience and can only recommend it to everyone. The owners are very nice people and wish all the best for the future

We stopped for lunch on our week-long hike and got one of the best meals we had in the region! Fresh salad, delicious pasta, great local desert and good coffee. The building is full of history and the owners were friendly - a great experience.

The single rooms are simple and clean which include a bath/shower and toilette and free wifi. This historical hotel was built in 1788 and is one one of Switzerland's first post offices, which makes it part of the Swiss Historical Hotels . The hotel also has a chef restaurant in the evenings for those looking to have a special dinner....

No doubt that the highlight of Amsted was the Hotel Stern and Post. Although it is only 3 star hotel, it feels much more and you feel there like you are at home. The hotel is owned and managed by Rolf Welti and Remo Vetter. From the first moment you come in, you feel welcomed by the smiling guys who...

We have stopped at this nice restaurant & hotel by chance, due to a closed Gotthard Tunnel. The owners treated us very well: friendly service, help with travel trips and water for the dog. The food was great and they had reasonable prices. We will return!

We wanted to stay in the hotel because on our hiking trips we always try to stop in the best hotels to end a sporty day with a good shower, in a nice room and a wonderful dinner. This hotel was a disaster. The owner looked at us as if we were beggars (we wore expensive hiking gear, by the...

We stayed here on our way home from the South of France. The proprietors are very friendly and the hotel is very clean. Our only criticism ( and this is picky) is that the pillows were awful. We dined in the restaurant and enjoyed a tasty meal.

Well what a beautiful hotel. We booked here for one night on our way back from Austria to the UK, and as most bookings it is on blind faith and gut instinct. The hotel did not disappoint in any way. The hosts are wonderfully welcoming and make you feel very much at home. The hotel is filled with antiques and...

This was our second time around to this charming hotel at the base of the gotthard pass, and the first time since it switched owners. The new owners have kept all the beauty of the original hotel but updated it to modern standards: new bathrooms with a lovely shower and good sized bath. Oh yes, it may take a while...

A charming, beautifully restored and maintained period hotel with a genuine historical atmosphere and feeling of grandeur. Serendipity - I was travelling to the Maderanertal (the road to there starts just some 30 metres from the hotel) so decided to spend the night in Amsteg. A good combination of a very special hotel and a spectacular valley (easily one of...
