I have seen a lot of negative comments lately but for us we have had a wonderful family holiday. We stayed for 2weeks arriving 20/6. My self and husband came to the Costa Calero 9yrs ago and other than upgraded room and prestige section nothing has changed. For the 1st 10 days we were here when the building works were being done we stayed by the pool near them working and after a day or so we never noticed the noise, the last days all the rooms were in use with holiday makers. We stayed all inclusive prestige as it was our first holiday in three years, we emailed the hotel before arrival and upgraded to a suite which was amazing so much space, my daughters bed was in the living area so she loved having her own room. Room: was cleaned spotlessly every day, mini bar filled daily, plenty bottles of water left daily, bed extremely comfy. Pool areas: all kept clean and tidy staff were always cleaning the floor and sun beds every morning, there was always plenty of beds free no matter what time of day you turned up. Bars: we only went to the piano bar once and had no problem getting served. Pool bar very efficient one lady knew my order after 2 days so the drinks were getting ready when approached, and also very lovely to my 7yr daughter when she went on her to get ice creams, the show bar very efficient also, being prestige we got to have any named spirits which was lovely as I love absolute vodka. We went in the prestige bar most nights after dinner before Mini disco it was a nice space to just chill and watch a bit of tv or use the computers, it’s help yourself and we always found it very clean and tidy. Food: breakfast was amazing the omelettes were beautiful every morning, so much choice, plenty of choice at lunch and dinner, yes I agree most days are the same but I’m very fussy and so is my daughter and we always found something to eat, we encountered 4 theme nights, Spanish, Mexican, Chinese & Mediterranean all giving something to try along with the usual items, there is a Al carte restaurant on a Monday we didn’t go as there would have been nothing for our daughter to eat. Staff: all the staff from reception, cleaning, bar restaurant, spa we encountered were all so friendly and helpful, always served with a smile (apart from bar manger at the pool bar). Entertainment team: wow these were all amazing so friendly our daughter loved the kids club the 1st week the hotel didn’t have to many children and sometimes was the only one there, 2nd week There was maybe 20/30 in kids club and she still loved going, there was always sone form of activities going on for adults but we’re not pushy if you didn’t want to join in, we particularly enjoyed the bingo every afternoon. The mini disco was lovely however I do think it was late but we made it work we stayed for a few of the acts but with these not in till 10 we did about 1 every 3 days, the ones we saw were very good. Spa: Being prestige we could go in every day if we wanted and we popped in most days just for a chill out hour as the weather the 2nd week was very cloudy, children we allowed at certain times, I also had a massage which was very good. The only downside was the internet it was so rubbish it only worked in certain areas of the hotel and as the hotel got busier it was not even worth trying, we had to pay for roaming on our phones and just tethered off our phones for our daughters iPad etc. All in our we have a wonderful holiday and enjoyed it that much that we have booked to come back next year to renew our wedding vows.

The staff here are absolutely amazing everything is done with a smile and nothing is to much trouble Alexandra on reception is amazing All the bar staff are non stop EXCEPT CLADIO The rudest most ignorant bar manager I have ever had the misfortune of meeting which is such a shame as the staff that carry him are amazing and work very hard I am here now and have 1 more week and just hope he does not spoil the rest of my holiday

Noisy building work and an obvious cost cutting let’s this hotel down. Breakfast is fine as long as you keep to uncooked. Cooked breakfast is not good. Orange juice is watery, milk is UHT. If you can’t make the main breakfast, continental is on offer later in the morning. It’s shameful. (The hotel management should know what I mean). Many umbrellas in the garden are broken, free Wifi only worked in reception. Once used, shampoo etc wasn’t replaced. Sound proofing in our bedroom didn’t exist. The family in the room next door might just as well have been in our room. We checked out early but no one even asked us why!!

I think a 3.5 star review would be fairer but unfortunately not possible. We stayed for one week on the all inclusive prestige package and we had a good time, the plus points are, plenty of different areas to sunbathe or pools to swim in, the spa is fabulous and being on the prestige package we could use it on a daily basis. my partner had a massage which she thought was excellent. The room was superb with good views, amenities and kept to a high cleanliness throughout our stay. The food overall is okay, it is presented well which can be difficult to maintain in a buffet environment but there is not enough diversity. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of different dishes available but they are repetitive. The desserts are extremely inviting to look at but the flavours are similar. my biggest gripe is the service. I found it lacking, especially in the piano bar. I don't expect to be served as soon as i sit down or at the bar but i expect some form of acknowledgement. I also find it uncomfortable to be standing in a restaurant with no available tables set up and the waiters ignoring me because its a hassle to relay a table, I personally don't wish/want to cause a scene so i say nothing but feel embarrassed. its situations like this that leave a lasting impression unfortunately. This was my 2nd visit and probably wont be my last as i meet members of my family at the hotel, but this time i left feeling there is room for improvement.

Please give this hotel time to recover after Covid. We have been returning time and time again over the years where you get a very warm welcome(especially form Brigga) and a fab time. I know the reviews over the past months have been very mixed so I thought with us being regular visitors to this hotel I would give a very true and honest review. Please bare in mind that restrictions have only really been lifted since April, so to be fair that is only in the past two months. 1) Building work: When you come to book your holiday with a tour operator the page will not let you go any further on until you have ticked the box to say you have read the comments that building work in going on. Yes work goes on most days and some days more than others, but to be honest it is not that bad. There is plenty of space and sun beds to move to another part of the grounds. I must say the work is well worth the disruptions when you see the improvements they have made to their rooms. 2) Food: Food is varied and plenty of it. I can see where people say it is repeatable( this maybe the case if you are staying over a week) Each day there is something different to choose from( from starters, main course, sweets and cheese). Food at home and in restaurants is reputative also. I would say you are spoilt for choice. 3)Drinks: Due to Covid and Spanish laws you now have to download a QR code for drinks both in the restaurant and panino bar(which is not the best) Once you have mastered this its ok but still not the best. I would like to see it go back to where you had a menu on your table and at the bar(hopefully this will return) 4)Service in Panino bar and Entertainment lounge: Again not the best, but again due to Covid they have employed new staff which they need to train up and the lack of staff. They are doing their best to resolve the situation(hence other bars and restaurants are having the same problems, again due to Covid) I must say a huge pat on the back to Lahbib who worked his socks off. He was like a little bullet trying to keep everyone happy and always with a smile on his face and a friendly word. WELL DONE to him... 5) Entertainment: Again due to Covid a lot of the acts have had to find employment else where. So finding good acts like everyone else is sparse. I have been as honest as I can be and how we found the hotel being back after 2 and 1/2 years. We have arranged to come back again in September so I will update again and hopefully things will be back to almost perfect.

Booked all inclusive with Jet2, we’d been before 3 years ago and it’s definitely gone down hill , the all inc used to offer decent wine at meal times , not now very cheap house wine, I feel trying to force you on to Prestige package , The Piano Bar service is a shambles, one bar tender absolutely trying his best to serve everyone , I was stood in a queue of 6 people and a waiter took all our orders so we dispersed , a lady then just walked up to an empty bar and got served by the overstretched barman, chaos exactly like we’d experienced before. Food wise , breakfast 10/10 excellent choice Lunchtime , reliant on roast chicken, rest just poor fast food Evening just gave up trying to put a meal together, everything tended to be over cooked The pools in the hotel weren’t heated wish is a shame as their the best I’ve seen in any hotel especially the Olympic sized one , the grounds are beautiful the tree and plants are something else. The hotel I’d getting refurbished but it needs to look at the service to its guests , we had hassle getting a safe as they said they’d run out of safe keys but we managed to get one on the second day , totally unacceptable, overall not the best stay, would probably try in the Playa Blanca region if we go again

We have been returning to this hotel year on year since 2014...Sometimes 3 times in one year.. We love the hotel and especially the fantastic staff, some we know personally.. Like everyone after an enforced break due to covid we couldn't wait to return.. Unfortunately we won't be returning, not in the near future at least. I will try to sum up without being too critical and harsh on the lovely people who work here. 1. The hotel Director informed us before our visit that all major refurbishment works had been completed and I quote that all noisy work had finished and we would only here disruption on an occasional basis.. This was totally untrue.. In the first week the building work noise and dust from the work was horrendous.. We heard constant angle grinders, tile cutters and even pneumatic drills.. Contractors using tile cutters directly above the heads of guests sunbathing on the pool side..You can see the dust clouds on the photo.. I wish I could upload a video so you can appreciate the terrible noise this made.. In the first few days concrete was being delivered through long tubes to level off the garden areas.. The noise as the concrete passed through these tubes was horrendous and we had to move away to another part of the pool area. The contractors were not using any form of PPE ad constantly smoking above our heads and spitting.. With no protection either to guests below. Not only this but we witnessed the very same building work contractors walking through the pool area to go our to the supermarket. We saw this on a daily basis . They were drinking cans of tropical at 8am in the morning before they started work.. We informed the management and this still continued until I actually videoed the guy walking past us early in the morning with his daily beer stash and sent it to the Hotel managers. It did stop then but that was about after 10 days .. So to the Directors who still think its OK to mislead guests..Thanks for nothing.. This refurbishment has now been going on for a number of years and I should imagine a few years left. We have returned time and time again through the closure of the spar and constant room refurbishments but this has now gone too far for us. The hotel is in constant refurbishment year and after year. For other guests who say this didn't disrupt their holiday then I can only say that they must have a quite different opinion and view of what a relaxing holiday should be. 2. Although the hotel is spending a substantial amount of money on a major refurbishment program, its clear that other areas are suffering. I asked to be compensated by a refund for this disruption as we had paid direct to the hotel on arrival but was told by that they don't offer refunds even to tour operators. All we was offered was an upgrade on out next visit. 2. Although the hotel is clearly investing substantial amounts of money on a major refurbishment the rest of the Hotel is looking worn and tired. The pool area floor is breaking up. The parasols are old and are ripped.. See the photo. The cleaning around the pool areas has reduced significantly and the table and sunbeds we sat on were filthy. You can see how dirty from the photos.. Again I reported this but nothing happened during our stay. Smoking is allowed around the pool area despite Spain discouraging due to covid. In fact two Spanish weekend guest smoked constantly at the side of us using the plastic drinking cups as Ash trays, how disgusting..They then spilt this onto the poolside. See photo.. 3. The hotel is pushing upgrades and Prestige with a number of old Saga guests unwittingly being persuaded to do so without really knowing what you gain.. To be honest the hotel is creating a class issue with different coloured towels and ares for Prestige guest.. Its a little bit embarrassing to be honest as the only difference worth noting is the extra choice of drinks available which we noted that most guests didn't take advantage of.. This was mainly evident in the restaurant in the evening where the hotel has removed the drinks menu from the tables.. Unless you ask you won't be offerd the QR code to access the menu on your phone and the restaurant staff just offering guest the basic in drinks like despite there being a huge choice available. We noted that most guests didn't use the QR code and the hotel doesn't place this on the tables or inform guests unless they ask and yes most of the older generation won't know and won't bother to use this. 4. The hotel is now accepting large male bookings with more than 80 French golfers taking over the Piano bar in the early evening.. They were rude to the staff and didn't care about disrupting the pleasure of other guests by moving furniture and sitting in large groups in the centre of the bar.. Sometimes approaching the bar and Insisting on having extra spirits poured into their glasses and getting drunk. On four occasions we were woken during the night by drunken guests sitting outside as late as 4 am.. We have never witnessed this behaviour before and clearly the type of guests using the hotel is changing.. Maybe because of the relaxed dress code in the restaurant? Not sure.. We did note that there wasn't any Belgium or Dutch guests with only a tiny amount of German.. So majority UK guests.. Again another big C Change.. Drunkeness being the new norm at Costa Calero. 5. The hotel wasn't full despite the hotel management saying it was... Staff confirming that guest numbers were significantly down.. So the hotel is pushing weekend breaks to locals.. With large groups of Spanish children running riot at the weekends with no adults in site.. One of the drunken Spanish guests got his willy out and was seen urinating in the bushes behind the pool in full view of all guests. 6. The hotel brought in a yoga fitness instructor who was seen by us and other guests sunbathing naked and taking selfie of her virgina. But the hotel management just dismissed this and more or less called us liars.. Sorry no pics of this.🤣 7. With all hotels suffering a recruitment issue following covid.. The hotel clearly hasn't got enough staff with long queues at the bars and Senior bar staff arguing and being nasty to new and inexperienced members of staff.. This was sad to watch as in the past the service has been amazing.. So clearly the hotel Directors need to sort this out and do their best to support the long serving staff members.. The deputy Director looks so out of place , lacks any kind of customer service and deliberately avoided meeting us to discuss the issues we had found.. Preferring to send Ivan the Customer Sevice Manager who was very lovely and apologetic. Staff members having no respect for the Deputy Director who is evasive in his manner and doesn't communicate with guests or his staff members.. I didn't see him once supporting his team.. He ran away when he saw us preferring to send Ivan. So this is a long review.amd could be longer.. We are sad about our experience as we have such great memories of this hotel.. But whilst the current directors are un charge we will not return..

Just sent a week there with my wife, all you could hear was hammering grinding, and general building work. There is no table service in any of the Bars unless you pay extra, for Prestige Service so all inclusive it isn’t. Hotel seams to have a class issue we have never experienced this anywhere else including 5 star anywhere. I would say don’t go it’s not worth the money, one more thing we ask for a lower quiet room got one but children where above we could hear every sound. Go elsewhere is my suggestion. I will be making a claim for non disclosure of work in progress.

Just returned home from a week staying at this hotel for the first time. When we arrived, there wasnt a room type available that we had booked so we were upgraded to a suite with a garden patio. This was great for us as it meant we had lots of room for the kids to spread out in. The hotel as a whole was very clean and well kept, loads of space around all the pools with lots of sunbeds available at all times of day, the pools were a little chilly but, to be honest, it was most welcome given how hot it was. There was a kids club which our 8 and 6 year old loved, the entertainment team were great with them and would always chat with them wherever we bumped into them. The evening kids mini disco was also a real hit, again, the staff were great with the kids and genuinely appeared to be having a great time too. The 2 dining areas were large, with plenty of different sized tables for all types of groups, again, the staff here were really friendly, remembered our preferences and were great with the kids too. The food was plentiful and sufficiently varied but with the usual favourites too so you could always find something to eat. We used our afternoon complimentary spa visit on our last day, really nice pool and outdoor area, well worth a visit, very relaxing. The one minor complaint, if you can really call it that, is that the evening entertainment started at 10 and was perhaps a little late, otherwise, we enjoyed it, our son was even asked to take part in the horror show which he was absolutely chuffed with! In summary, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody, families, couples, large groups, it has something for everyone. Hopefully, we'll get to go back again some day soon.
