I stayed with friends at the Melia South Beach for 1 week. We had all booked via the BA website, beach facing rooms with Terrace. When we checked in, our rooms had no balcony....after reporting this we were offered to be moved the following day (it was already 11pm) and sure enough this happened. The new rooms were much bigger and with a large balcony (not really a terrace). It seems that the smaller building has smaller rooms... and only juliet balconies..so check before you accept. The staff were lovely and helpful.... the hotel is modern and clean with good facilities.... we never really found out if all three hotel buildings were joined in some way, but there were a range of pools and facilities to use. The Gym wasn't bad for this type of hotel, but was too hot and the A/C was ineffective...at least it was 24/7. I think there was another gym in another building but it wasnt explained if we could use that one too. The Spa was locked though... not sure if it was out of use due to Covid. Breakfast had a good selection and didn't disappoint. The Pool Bar food was alos ordered a few times. The first time I had a Poke box, which was big, tasty and very fresh... was great... when I ordered if again a few days later it was half the size and again on the third time.....that was disappointing. Drinks were pretty good if a but pricey, but the barman, (Joan) was a really nice guy . The Pool/Beach bar at the other end was rubbish, with less interested staff and sweet icey drinks that tasted nothing like they should. The hotel was pretty full but we never had issues getting sunbeds, or places by the pool... having Nikki Beach literally next door meant we got most of their music too, which was no bad thing for us. It was quiet enough by evening. Rooms were realy nice and spacious (eventually) but the pillows weren't great...too squashy. A lack of English channels on the TV (although I found BBC and ITV) wasnt a huge issue but it would be nice if Hotels always allowed connections from Phones, etc so we could play our own Netflix, etc...they aren't making any money from Paid TV any more anyway.... The location, right on the beach was brilliant, and being close enough to the shops and restaurants of Magaluf was good too....the 'Strip' was half closed and not rowdy at all....although we chose to go into Palma and Puerto Portals a few times to eat. Overall I am a fan of Melia Hotels and will definitely stay with them again... overall great value for money booked as a package with British Airways.

Hotel's Favourite
We are friends celebrating a 40th birthday and chose the hotel because I’ve visited lots of times before at the Calvià beach next door! I’m a travel agent so am a huge fan on melia. On arrival we were allocated a junior suite as booked but it did not have a balcony as specified. We wanted a balcony as this was a special occasion! The manager was amazing and sorted this for us straight away! The room was on the 9th floor and stunning! The hotel is exceptionally clean, breakfast delicious. We had the level and would highly recommend this and a junior suite! Fantastic and we will be back. Thank you to the all the staff especially the manager who acted amazing to address our original concern.

We were a group of friends who had booked the top suite in the Sol wave which had closed for the season. With a few days to go, we were transferred to a suite at this hotel. The confirmation clearly stated that we were to get the level service and our new suite was specified in the confirmation. We checked in, got told about what was included on the ‘level’ and then got told that as we had transferred from the sol wave that we wouldn’t get this ( even though it comes with the room) and we would be expected to pay 30 euro each per day for this. This sort of messing about does not get your holiday off to a good start and after complaining we eventually got what was on our booking confirmation from melia in terms of room and level service - think the hotel were trying it on and the staff member we spoke to tried to make out they had done us a huge favour when they really hadn’t. We just wanted what was on our confirmation in the first place. This sort of thing leaves a sour taste. The level is just a room you can access with free soft drinks, cakes and biscuits- you wouldn’t pay extra for it. It was a bit pointless really. It’s also a concept that doesn’t fit in with the hotel at all. It’s the sort of thing you see at all inclusive hotels who offer an upgrade so you can get premium drinks. This offers nothing like that. You can get alcoholic drinks at the level between 5-6pm but we didn’t bother with it. The pool on the level is in the shade. Not enough sun loungers for all guests round the pools in general and many had towels down but no one sat on them. however there are plenty of Bali beds for hire at 50 euro per day. These were empty all the time as no one wants to pay to sit on one of these at your own hotel pool in Majorca. There is also a section of the beach where you can get free sun loungers but this is on the concrete outside the hotel. There are also beds for 100 euros that you can hire on this beach section. The loungers further on the main beach are cheap to hire 18 euro for 3 with coconut shade and in a much better location and nicer part of the beach. Was very quiet around the bar areas in the evenings. At 3,50 euro for a tiny can of water, am not surprised. It’s just neither one thing or another. It’s pretending to be upmarket but isn’t. People just won’t pay to stay here on this basis as there is not enough included. Our room itself was nice with a good view and it was clean. We were on b&b but can’t comment on the food as breakfast was finished at 10.30 which is a bit early for us and we like a lie in. There was often a smell of urine in the lift though - perhaps a new cleaning mop is required. Overall we had a good time but probably wouldn’t choose to stay here again. Nice enough but lacking in atmosphere.

Cheaply built and equipped hotel. Room extremely small, hardly any space to turn around. We had one on the 2nd floor directly above the ventilation for the restaurant: ugly view and extreme noise! "Bathroom" has no exhaust air, therefore the whole room is damp and you can't get rid of that (bedding was permanently damp). Due to the automatic light in the "bathroom", the whole room is brightly lit when you go to the toilet at night (only glass walls as a partition). In our room, the drain of the sink was leaking, so we permanently had water on the floor underneath and in front of it. „Bathroom“ is overdue for Renovation. The bedding stunk horribly, as if it had been used for 20 years and never washed. For the sunbeds on the beach you have to pay extra (EUR 20 per sunbed in the back, 80 in the front for a daybed). The beach there is extremely ugly. Magaluf itself a levelless place, Miami Beach for Hartz4 guests. Come to Nikki Beach (if you have to) and leave without looking left or right.
