We had breakfast on two occasions whilst at the hotel and we were very pleased.
Both the hotel and grounds were very clean and tidy, and the staff were all very welcoming.
We have already booked a return trip.
Keep up the work. Beautiful Spanish hotel in a stunning location.
I write to offer constructive points in order that the hotel may improve certain issues.
There was a slightly unpleasant aroma in the room which we could detect from time to time but the main complaint we had was the pool management.
We noticed that there weren't many sunbeds around the pool so on the first day we had breakfast around 8:30, at about 9:15 we sat in (the very nice courtyard area) as we could not access the pool or sunbeds as the pool attendant has fenced off the steps. We awaited with a few others until nearly 10:00am, some of the fence was not completely closed so at this point I walked through and sat on a sunbed only to be shouted to by one of the waiters( why a waiter?) saying "1 more hour" I said "what! " he gestured to the reception so we went there and they told us the pool is open 10:00am until 8:00pm and he was wrong, so we eventually got to the pool area around 10:05am, so be aware you cannot access the pool area or sunbeds until 10:00am!
A couple of days later we had been on sunbeds for about 3 hours and decided to go for some lunch in the hotel and left our towels on the beds only to be stopped by a young pool lifeguard who told us it was not allowed to leave towels on sunbeds even to go for lunch for a hour, but there were several other sunbeds with towels on where people had gone for lunch! We are NOT people who get up early and put towels on sunbeds btw.
Some people were having to lie on towels on the grass due to lack of sunbeds. My wife noticed that there were some more sunbeds down by the side of the hotel so I went to look, there were around 50 beds just stacked up, why weren't some of these brought out? Another 10 would have solved the problem, on the third day a few more seemed to appear.
The "beat box" type music they play around the pool mainly in the morning might not be to everyone's taste.
On Friday we had an email from the hotel saying that the normal routine at the pool would be suspended from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Saturday, so at about 4:30 everyone had to vacate the pool area due to wedding that took place at about 5:00pm around the pool.
The courtyard and general architecture of the hotel is very nice and in a peaceful setting overlooking mountains and the coastal resorts in the distance.
It is isolated though, and you need to take the bus up to the lovely Mijas village (about 5 minutes,1.55euros each way pp) for restaurants/bars etc or down to Fuengirola, the location could be a problem if you have teenage children who want more than just the hotel as there is nothing else to do there. The bus stop is outside the hotel (face masks obligatory on public transport). The hotel will give you a timetable if you ask for one.
There was no live evening entertainment when we were there but there was bingo a couple of nights!
Breakfasts were OK with a decent selection, we didn't use the evening buffet.
This is NOT a bad hotel but the pool area was a problem, communication is poor, there wasn't any information in the room or signage to help, there is room for improvement but it was cheaper than some other 4 star hotels in the area.
I also find it very strange that the cleaning personell keeps knocking on the door and locking themselves in our room when we have a “do not disturb” sign on the door… it’s not a good feeling to be woken up by someone locking themselves inside your room. We tried the breakfast buffet once, it was ok. We also tried the lunch buffet, it cost 18 euros and was not worth the money at all! You would get an amazing meal up in Mijas for a lower cost. They have some burgers here and sandwiches and they are ok and fairly priced. For me personally is the worst part here is that they don’t allow women to be topless around the pool… we are in 2022 and I can’t understand why it’s perfectly fine for my boyfriend to go topless but not me. I find that disgusting, to be honest.
They room was dark and do not have any amenities a part of some gel/shampoo on a wall. I had to ask them to at least do a bed when my photographer was coming to take some photos while I was preparing for a wedding. When I found out that my wedding dress need to be pressed a bit No one at the reception even asked me if I need help with it, just a housekeeping lady don’t remember her name was helpful while she was in a room she said they could do it but the main vapor iron was broken, so she brought something similar and we didn’t ourselves.
In overall it is a nice building but the rest is not up to standard at all. The only good thing was a buffet breakfast. That’s about it.
As for the wedding, the staff at ilunion hacienda mijas exceeded all expectations. The event was organised brilliantly from start to finish. Staff were extremely attentive to guests and their needs, constantly supplying people with food and drinks, always smiling and friendly which makes all the difference, and just generally very pleasant. We all had a great time and commented on the quality of the decor, food and ambiance. The ceremony by the pool was beautiful with views out to the coast, the canape area was also beautifully decorated and so was the indoor food/dance hall.
Overall, what a beautiful place to stay for the weekend AND host a wedding! Will definitely be recommending to all family and friends.
Fantastic job all at Hotel Ilunion Hacienda Mijas!
The food was OK but there was no organisation regarding social distancing in the restaurant so everyone was mixed together.
The rooms were also OK, clean and tidy but no phone to call reception.
My main problems were that the fire alarms sounded every night (early hours) and sometimes in the afternoon. Small children were woken and we weren't able to sleep properly. Also, the bar in evening was lacking staff. Waiters never came to our table (went to others), wenhad to go to the bar and wait almost 30 minutes to be served.
The entertainment team tried their best but there was only entertainment on the Saturday, on Friday there wasn't anything.
Garry met us early morning and checked us in with ease which was greatly appreciated after our delayed journey.
Raul , helped me with my poor Spanish and it was great to have a good personality at the bar , looking forward to seeing you again soon in August 🍻
Pool is so clean and opens at 11am and closes at 7pm , would love to see it open earlier.
Great bar food 🍔 try the meat selection board with mancheda cheese.
6 euros in a taxi to Mijas Pueblo or 10 euros to Fuengirola perfectly located.
Had a great time can’t wait to return 🌴🌴🌴🌴 thank you , Ilunion Mijas.
