We stayed at this hotel in June and it was not a great experience but they were in the middle of renovating. I naively thought I would give it another shot a month later as it seemed renovations were complete. The beds are horrible and way too soft. We all had a terrible night's sleep and woke up with back pain the next day. On the surface it seems to be refreshed but below the surface it seems like a 1 star motel. I am a long time Marriott loyalist with platinum status and they gave us the WORST room possible in the entire building. We were on the first floor, under the stairs, 5 feet from the elevator, near an exit door, facing a door where staff congregates and works ( curtains remained closed most of the time, there is no privacy). I was told the studio would have a walk in shower but the catch is they do except for the rooms on the first floor. Breakfast has improved since June but there is only one poor man working and it's a lot of work for one person. Please hire another person for breakfast or the manager should roll up their sleeves and help out. I wouldn't be fooled a third time and may try the Hilton down the road next time.

I stayed only 2 nights, but I leave wanting to come back again. They simply think of everything to make the guest comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is awesome. They offer different kinds of food. There is even silverware at breakfast. The kindness of the staff impresses us. The room has everything just as advertised. Towels and sheets are new and comfy.

I had an early flight at ORF so the Residence Inn fit the bill for location and as a Platinum member of Marriott it seemed like a no-brainer. I made a booking using points and thought I was all set. When I checked in I asked for a room with a walk-in shower, an option which is clearly depicted on the hotel's web site as "shower only," but the reception staff seemed confused by my request. However, after some searching on their computer they said they had found such a room. So off I went, but then discovered they had booked me in a handicapped-accessible room on the first floor, next to an elevator. My profile clearly indicates my preference for high floors and rooms away from elevators, so back to the front desk and I ended up on the 4th floor in a standard room. The room appeared clean, but had so many issues. There were no toiletries in the bathroom, save for two wafer-sized bars of soap. At first I thought it might be a Eco-friendly way of reducing plastic waste, but it was obviously an oversight. The same goes for water bottles, which should have been in the room. Then there was the kitchen area. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes and the coffee maker still had a used filter in it and the carafe was full of old coffee. How does something this obvious get over looked by housekeeping? The bed had nice linens and a comfy mattress, but a quick glance under the bed revealed an empty "cocktail in a can." I guess it could have been worse. I submitted my observations to the front desk when I checked out and filled out a survey from Marriott detailing the housekeeping issues and received a prompt reply from management, so hopefully they will take corrective action.

The room was nice and spacious. You can tell that the rooms were recently renovated. We stay in the two bedroom suite. It had a full size refrigerator, a table for four. The living area had a leather couch and tv. Both rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Nice choice to choose from when in town.

We arrived extremely early in the morning and checked into our 1 bedroom suite. Almost immediately we saw a roach. We let the front desk agent know and she immediately changed our room and gave us a slightly bigger room. This room had no towels, no trash can, and it was dirty. We did request the towels and waste basket and they were given to us with no issue. The bathroom door had dirty stains all over it and the shower had dirt on the walls. The elevator had dirt on the floor and on the 5th floor where we were originally supposed to stay there was an orange peel that had mold on it on the floor in the hallway. Ms. Pam and the rest of the staff were very friendly but I definitely would not stay here again.

We called at 6:30 pm on Thursday evening after the Hilton home2 home suites hotel canceled our reservation for no reason and I’m a diamond member. The front desk ladies were so friendly and nice. They brought us bagels, yogurt, bananas and milk because we had to leave the hotel at 4:30 am for an early flight. The room was clean and spacious. I guess it’s time to switch from Hilton to Marriott

I stayed at this hotel for a week for the second time in two months. I usually stay at Marriotts for the points. I was there over Thanksgiving holiday and was not happy with my room at all. I have on my profile I have to have a feather-free room. I called before I came to the hotel to make sure they gave me a feather-free room. I even asked the guy at the front when I checked in if I the room was feather-free because I'm allergic to feathers and they would make me really sick. I went to my room and noticed one of the top pillows had filthy black marks on it. I took it off, but felt and saw the top pillows were feather-free. Later that night I started to get a bad headache and felt the back pillows. Both of those pillows had feathers in them. There were other issues with this hotel. Some of my towels also had nasty looking stains on them as well. The bath tub stopper was broken and would not stay up. The tub filled with water whenever I showered even when I tried to stuff a towel under it. I'm sure the maid knew this if she cleaned that bathtub. The stopper can not be removed out of the drain. I hotel emailed me an adjusted bill with a pet deposit on it they said because the maid reported a pet and charged me a $150 pet deposit. Their staff didn't even clean the room well, left filthy linen in the room and feather pillows, but charged me a pet fee. I had no idea they charged a pet deposit. My son came to town later for Thanksgiving and dropped the dog off with me. I read online the hotel was "pet friendly" but had no idea the charged a $150 deposit and no one ever told me they were charging it on my card. I called twice to speak to the manager and left messages. She was supposed to call me back each time and never did. This hotel has terrible customer service and terrible cleaning habits. I will not stay here again!

I'm really wondering with Covid if hotels are just reusing the same few rooms over and over. Maybe there's another floor at this hotel thats all brand new and unused but this room is worn out. I heard a dog barking in a room next door so I'm wondering if the rooms at this end of the hall are reserved for pet owners. The urine smell in the corner of the room might be due to a previous pet that was in the room (i hope). The couch (near the urine smell) was filthy - I didn't sit on it the while time I was there. Carpets also look filthy. Remote controls on TV's don't work right. The airconditioner thermostat was random - i set it to 74 and when I came back it said the setpoint was still 74, but the room was 65 degrees and it was still on. I had to just turn it off completely. The next day it seemed to be working better. Ice maker in fridge didn't work. The hotel is located at the end of the airport runway so when planes take off you get all the noise (fortunately not often at night). On the up side, it has good water pressure and hot water shows up instantly.

Ok, so I listed the two good points in the title of this review: friendly staff and a solid internet connection. Apart from that, there's no charm to this place at all. The breakfast is really terrible, the rooms are worn and well overdue refurbishment. The mattresses on both the beds in our room had collapsed and were very uncomfortable. The carpet was sticky and torn. The room was only ever cleaned on request, and we also had to call down when we wanted fresh towels. The stove in the room had only one burner working. There was only enough silverware for one person, so we had to ask for more. This stay was a business trip. Had I paid for the room myself I'd have agonised over the $319 a night for this standard of accommodation and moved elsewhere. The friendly girls on the front desk saved me giving this hotel just one star.

I travel all over the country and ok stay at Residence Inns when available so my know my way around Residence Inns by Marriott. I'm close to reaching Ambassador level so I've been at a few. I have to say, the Residence Inn at the Norfolk airport has to be the worse stay I've endured by a Residence Inn property in the US! I started in one room until I realized I had a water ant problem in the kitchen and my malfunctioning shower valve nearly got me scalded by hot water twice because management didn't take the situation seriously the first time ok complained. After the second complaint I was frustrated, angry and appalled with the condition of my room, maintenances inefficiency and managements lack of concern about the hotels condition they finally offered to move me to another room. I accepted and moved. Because of my long term stay, I had many things to move so I accidentally left a few items. I was only directly across the hallway from the room I vacated so I didn't have far to go. When I realized after an hour or so I forgot some items I returned to the room to retrieve my items because housekeeping was cleaning the room. I told the housekeeper who I was and what I was in the room to get so she she was aware. I got my kitchen items and left. The next day I realized I left a black zippered bag in the old room that was a part of my luggage. This bag disappeared and has not been seen since. Hotel staff was notified. The general manager was made aware of my entire experience at her hotel but my bag was never placed in lost and found. All I can assume is the housekeeper took it. This was brought to managements attention but to this day it still has not been located. All this and that fact that this hotels hallways are always dirty. The manager Rashel or something like that, attempted to passify my terrible experience with giving me BonVoy points, to which never happened either. So after my move to the second I had another shower valve problem to which I also complained. They did get this problem solved after another complaint because maintenance said they fixed it and didn't. My stay after that was uneventful until a few days later I realized I left as one toiletry items in the bathroom vanity so I called again but of course they disappeared too and we're not in lost and found. All I can think at this point is this Residence Inn location has problem with housekeepers keeping lost items and not attempting to get left items back to guests. I'm still staying at Marriott's other properties in the Norfolk area but it will not be the Residence Inn at the Norfolk airport again. Terrible treatment and terrible management at this location.
