My first visit to this hotel, and first solo holiday. Beautiful hotel, great food and friendly staff. Daily free shuttle bus to Funchal which you need to book in advance. Enjoyed my time there, and would certainly stay there again.
Fantastic week away in this hotel. Food is excellent- nice range of choice for vegetarians. Good quality alcohol. The staff are absolutely superb- they cannot do enough to help you! Loved the fact that a fresh pot of coffee was brought immediately at breakfast. Rooms are dated but spotless and with everything that you need. Three of us shared the room and it was not cramped. Okay, there aren’t as many sockets as a modern hotel, but such is life. Wi-fi was excellent in all hotel areas/around the pool. Evening entertainment was rather cheesy but fab. I stayed here with my two teenagers aged 14 and 16. We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed vibe- we played cards and drank in the evening. Yes, there is no animation team and the pool area was quiet- this is a relaxed quality hotel. Free bus to Funchal was really useful- get the cable car up and then toboggan down! Loved the hotel, even the outdated parts. 5* staff and service, loved the island and the climate. (We had breakfast at 8am then headed straight to the pool- plenty of sunbeds at this time)…
Riu Madeira was the best all-inclusive hotel we've stayed in. Its staff are its strongest point. All were helpful and friendly. The food was exceptional with a wide choice at every meal. We really liked the desserts, in particular, the after-eight cake. Our room was very comfortable and had a decent-sized balcony with a great view over the Atlantic. Each night there were two lots of entertainment - a band or duo (on a weekly cycle) plus a variety of acts e.g. illusionist, dancers. It would be better if the band or duo came on after the other act, rather than performing both before and after. There are limited places to walk near the hotel. The promenade is small and the roads around are steep. The free shuttle bus to Funchal is, however, a boon. Overall the Riu Madeira is a great place to stay. Special thanks to Paula in reception for sorting out the bag.…
Our 1st stay at this RIU hotel. We were pleasantly surprised. Room are very comfortable and clean. Food and drink was very good. The alcoholic drinks seemed stronger than in other RIUs that we have stayed in. The Madeira was really good. There is not much going on directly round the hotel not many walks. There is a free bus to Funchal and a couple of shops and restaurants a few minutes walk away. The hotel is very sedate which suited us. Doesn’t seem like a hotel for those who want a lively hotel with a lot of loud music and entertainment round the pool. The pool area is very clean and well kept. Perfect hotel for a peaceful relaxing holiday with good food and drink. We had great weather for November.
We really enjoy staying at the RIU Madeira and have been coming for a number of years now. The recent changes/upgrades are good. Really friendly and helpful staff. And a special shout out to Tony the Bus Driver who is always exceptionally helpful and kind.
Lovely hotel. Staff were kind and helpful, especially Jessica on reception. She really helped us the whole trip!! Very clean, calm, spacious hotel. In a quieter area of Madeira. Free shuttle bus to Funchal was great. Great breakfast. Food wise good quality for an all inclusive. If you want a la carte there a la carte restaurant is nice too. Entertainment was good, was not aimed at our audience but others seemed to enjoy it. Downsides: sometimes took staff 15 minutes to collect our plates at dinner. This meant we had plates on our table whilst having deserts/ coffees or we wait a while. Food was sometimes dry/ undercooked ( the snack bar in the evening was pants and looked like it was old food from dinner). Didn’t restock mini fridge with water. No atmosphere around the pool ( for example no music). However, I appreciate others may like this. In summary a nice hotel with great staff. Would recommend if you like all inclusive.…
Tastefully modernised. Up graded bedrooms. Walk in showers. The late night snacks though were poor no selection and dry. Odious Cut backs on food selection also spoilt it somewhat in the Restaurant. Great staff though who worked hard to please. In all a nice 4 star hotel.
First visit after the refurbishment and it changing to a RIU hotel. Having stayed here for some 12/13 times it was lovely to see quite a few of the staff we knew were still working there. We certainly enjoyed our stay and will, hopefully, visit again. The bar area did not appear to be the social gathering place that it was but that would not affect our booking again. Our room, 1662, was excellent.
Great hotel .clean and well appointed Staff very friendly. Not much near by but free bus is a good way to get to Funchal for sight seeing. Food very good for an AI but got a bit repetitive bey the end of the week.
Lovely hotel. Amazing food and lots of choice. Rooms very spacious and very clean. Housekeeping went in everyday. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Entertainment in the evening wasn’t great, but this didn’t bother us as we played cards every night. A la carte restaurant was lovely and a nice mid week treat.
