A lot of the reviews of this property seemed to be good or excellent which drove us to choose this premises for a 1 night stay on July 17, 2021. Upon arrival at the hotel, at around 2pm, we met with reception staff which very quickly appeared to be from rather junior level ; indeed when we completed the check in we were immediately told that we could not get a room before 4pm. We did enquire if there was any earlier possibility, but was told that "was the rule".... I asked the reception clerk to check with their housekeeping department and we were then informed that the room would be available within the hour. At the same time, as we had an option to extend the stay for another day as per email exchange with the hotel prior to our arrival, we executed that too. We accepted and decided to go to town in Aveiro. While the location of the hotel is supposedly quiet, it is not that close to Aveiro, but we lived with that. Coming back to the hotel later in the afternoon, we discovered our room, and the hotel space. Despite its words to follow Covid 19 Clean and safe rules, cleanliness was ok, nothing more. What strikes us very quickly is that the hotel was all but 5 stars premises... very noisy swimming pool deck, loud guests around, terrasses with no privacy, lousy service at the swimming pool bar - ended up never receiving a drink ordered over an hour prior, ... We did not have dinner at the hotel which was probably a good move! On the following morning, after a night on a not very confortable bed and noise from a wood bridge across the hotel, as well as a just OK breakfast (i do not recommend the breakfast sausages which are the tin version... 5 stars ? We asked to opt-out for our second night, BUT we were told "the rule" to cancel was 48 hrs ahead (not very 5 stars rating habit) and that they could not cancel that night (while technically possible after checking with American Express) and that they were going to be left with a room they could not rebook - We indeed think a `Sunday night is probably not the busiest night of the week. Not single sign of commercial sense appeared again in the reception staff attitude... Never mind, we decided to leave anyway with a very dishonest profit made by the hotel for that unused night (Eur 159). What appeared from that experience is that not all 5 stars hotels are the same, that's for sure, the lack of competition in this location make them think they are the best - which there are not , and the combination of the current pandemic is very well used by this hotel to maximise their profit while not doing the same with their commercial and client service approach. We felt betrayed and robbed for this stay and what we got out of it. Another 4 stars hotel from an international hotel group in the center of Aveiro offers better cancellation terms for who ever is interested ! Personally, we do not recommend it and will avoid going back there !…
Very good hotel with a very professional staff. The room is amazing. The breakfast was very good - even in covid-19 times. Disliked the absolute lack of privacy of the balconies - stayed in the modern wing of the hotel.
The place is amazing, because we can joint history with modernity, the Vista Alegra factory, museum and shop with the modern hotel. The architecture and decoration are amazing, very well done and also minimalist. Great rooms with balcony facing the pool. Good breakfast and excellent dinner on the restaurant
The hotel was built in an old Vista Alegre property and they did a very good job at it. Well integrated old and new architecture, maybe a bot too "cold/clean" in some areas. Our room, in an old palace, was very good, spacious and confortable. Social areas not as cozy as we'd like, too modern and minimalist. Restaurant just ok. Swimming pool, again, very minimalist and modern, could be more confortable. Overall ok, we enjoyed our stay, but would not rate it as a 5* hotel, more a modern 4*.
