A really lovely, Colonial hotel, pool in reception, large rooms, nice bathroom. Really characteristic of Colonial Nicaragua. Very near to the main square in the centre of the city. We really enjoyed our time here. Had the best steak ever in a Lonely Planet recommended restaurant nearby. Brilliant location, clean, antique hotel. Water available free in reception. Breakfast good and...

The hotel architecture is beautiful! The building where breakfast and lunch is served, is amazing, must be more than 200 years old. The building for the guest rooms, is at the other side of the street, this one must be 100 years old, has a French style from 1900. Breakfast is good. Hotel staff are kind, great service. Clean rooms,...

I was able to stay in one of the finest rooms in the hotel (lower numbers, around the pool), and my room was glorious. It was a very large room with nice dark furniture and beautiful historic tile on the floor. The bathroom was enormous, with double sinks, a huge rainshower shower and Jacuzzi tub. The staff was extremely gracious...

The architecture and furnishings are very beautiful and the huevos rancheros are spectacular but the staff seem to just go through the motions and there is lack of attention to detail. Our room smelled of something like gasoline and the doors rattled all of the time with the wind. The pool is a little strange and definitely not inviting.

Was in Granada with a volunteer group and was not expecting much but la Gran Francia was a very welcome surprise. Rooms were very clean and well kept with all the amenities you might expect. Great bed, wonderful shower, very quiet and extremely comfortable. I was amazed at how the staff went out of their way to ensure we were...

We needed a room for our last night in Nica. We found this gem right off the main plaza. Our room was ground level and facing the street. It was a bit noisy since our wall and big bolted doors were the only thing separating us from the sidewalk. I would advise getting a room that is not facing the...

Photographs of the hotel cannot do it justice. The soaring ceilings, the art, the calm interiors, surprised and delighted. Breakfast (complimentary) was outstanding, served in the garden patio. Service was excellent and we received the assistance we needed. We would love to visit this hotel again.

Living in Central America, I am not used to high expectations. But seeing a beautiful building like this in an amazing location not coming near to its potential because of what appears to be lack of interest, is hard to feel good about. I love Spanish Colonial design. That alone was a deal maker for me and made my stay...

Nice large room, good location near squate but no hot water during stay (5 days). They said it comes on from 4-10 in am and pm but it doesn't. We got lukewarm water only. Very disappointing for what you pay for the place.

Very frustrating !!! This is a lovely period hotel in a great location in Grenada but it unfortunately just misses the mark mainly because the staff just seemed to be going through the motions. The rooms are large and clean but the TV's are old and our remote didn't work. The breakfast that others rave about left me cold. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located right off the main square of the historical colonial city of Granada, La Gran Francia is a splendid ancestral building whose existence historians argue dates back to the years immediately following the founding of Granada, in 1524. This architectural jewel was restored during the decade of the 1990's, recovering the majesty and splendor of its heyday and today houses our hotel restaurant, bars and banquet hall facilities. In two distinct and centric settings, La Gran Francia Colonial Hotel offers its guests a total of 35 air-conditioned rooms, with all modern comforts and amenities. At La Gran Francia Colonial Hotel, you will be able to enjoy the best of Nicaraguan hospitality and the rustic elegance of colonial Granada.
