This was on the tour route and we spent all of 15 minutes here probably because it has a reputation of being haunted. It has a tenuous look of the hotel in The Shining with Jack Nicholson but apart from that it's not worth a trip. In it's hey dey it would of been something special but it's virtually empty...

The former Candicraig Hotel (British Raj Chummery) has closed and undergoing renovation. You may visit the hotel and we were fortunate to have one of the developers walk us around explaining his vision of renovating the original structure while adding more modern in the back. We wish him well

We definitely agree with the 'haunted house' description. It's a gorgeous building with a well kept garden, but inside the hotel was virtually empty and nothing has been done to improve it for decades. Go to visit if you stay in Pyin Oo Lwin, but there are other places of much better value to stay in. We stayed for two...

We really wanted to like this hotel more. The building is beautiful. A bit run-down but very atmospheric. The staff - like pretty much everybody in Myanmar - were lovely but possibly a little bit amateurish. Maybe the hotel is used more as a film set than as a hotel. Pyin Oo Lwin is very spread out, so the theoretical...

The Thiri Myaing Hotel (also known as the Candacraig -- made famous in Theroux's Great Railway Bazaar) is located on the outskirts of Pyin Oo Lwin (still known by many as Maymyo) about a 2 hour's drive outside of Mandalay.
