The historic General Francis Marion Hotel was originally built in 1927 and was restored to its original elegance in the early 2000s. The hotel's 36 guest rooms are beautifully appointed in period furniture with emphasis on comfort and luxury. The Speakeasy, the hotel's restaurant, offers superb dining in a Roaring '20s atmosphere. Located just feet from the famous Lincoln Theatre, the hotel is listed in both the National and the Virginia Historic Registers.

We went to Marion to see a Mountain Music concert and stayed here because it was next door to the Lincoln Theatre. It is a wonderful hotel, about 100 years old. We stayed in a suite that was not much more expensive and got a most comfortable king sized bed that seemed bigger than king. All of the staff were so nice and friendly. It was so clean and plenty of hot water. Continental breakfast was also very good. I recommend this hotel.

The room was small but well furnished. The bed was squishy too soft. The bathroom was large and there was plenty of hot water. The staff were very friendly and helpful...from the front desk staff to the breakfast staff.

Agree with much from the previous review. Small room with good sized bath. Our water temp and pressure was fine. Comfortable bed. Clean, quiet room. Good air conditioning. Free parking in lot behind hotel, and we were happy to see our motorcycles appeared on a security monitor at the front desk. Sad breakfast during these times , but we were happy to discover some microwaveable sausage and cheese croissants next to the Greek yogurt, so it seemed they had tried to give some options. Front desk staff in both am and pm were badly uninformed about options for supper or alternate breakfast location. Moon Dog next door was fine for supper. On a Monday, only The Tank in nearby Atkins was open for breakfast. See several pictures of the historic hotel.

Small room with a large tiled bath. Very comfortable bed with excellent pillows. Erratic water temperature in the shower. No flat surface to use as a work station, no coffee maker in the room. Breakfast was disappinting...After waiting in the breakfast room for 10 minutes, I couldn't find anyone in the kitchen or at the front desk so I called in on my cell. Heather said they would cook eggs but that was all. Never did come to the room though! We left and went elsewhere. The room was clean and quiet, the bartender excellent and my Haddock fish & chips was very good!

My fiancé and I flew up to southwest Virginia from Florida for a weekend anniversary trip in the mountains. The General Francis Marion exceeded our expectations in every way. The hotel is just a short drive from Grayson Highlands State Park where we hiked in the snow with wild ponies. After a long day on the Appalachian Trail we were happy that our bed was like sleeping on a cloud. So comfy! The restaurant in the first floor of the hotel is an unbelievable find for such a small town. Delicious! We also enjoyed live mountain music at the restaurant and bar right next door. Great pizza! Downtown Marion May be small, but it packs plenty of options in ones pace. There was also a sushi restaurant with great bento box lunches and a pub with awesome local atmosphere. We would definitely recommend the General Francis Marion Hotel!
