Nau Sao Rafael Atlantico is widely commended for its cleanliness and attentive service, though it's not without occasional lapses in housekeeping and poolside service. While the amenities, including the quality of food and the picturesque views, receive positive remarks, guests have mentioned extra charges that dampen the overall value.
The rooms are generally well-regarded for their cleanliness and features, despite some reports of smoke and dated decor. The atmosphere and location earn points for comfort and convenience, but the absence of live music and a closed spa are seen as downsides.

Detailed Reviews
My partner and I stayed here for a week in June and were initially unsure what to expect as reviews can be mixed, however we had a really lovely stay at this hotel. On arrival the staff at reception were welcoming , friendly and very informative ( I believe Miguel was the name of the man that helped us initially!) This hotel was very strict on wearing masks inside and outside and sanitiser was around everywhere. We were only down for bed and breakfast so unsure about the quality of lunch/dinner but breakfast was ok, it always had everything still available any time we went down in the morning and restaurant was never too busy. The restaurant down at the private beach was amazing!! We were not a fan of the room service food at all.
The room was spacious and was cleaned daily, they replenished the water every day and the room service staff were always helpful with any requests we had.
Pool side was super relaxed and there were always beds available as you’re not allowed to reserve beds by the pool which was a plus!
The location of this hotel is not the best depending on what you would like to do when in Portugal, we spent a lot of our time in Albufeira (10 mins taxi drive) or Vilamoura (30+ mins taxi) so it isn’t practical if you want to get out every day as we did.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and was pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed staying here!!

We stayed in one of the Atlantic Suites (410) for the week before May half term and had a wonderful stay. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. The hotel setting couldn’t be any better. It is 30 mins from Faro airport and less than 10 minutes from Albufeira. The beautiful beach (one of the best in Portugal) is just the other side of the hotel gardens and there is a bar/restaurant on the beach independent of the hotel. We didn’t use the outdoor swimming pools but these were also attractive and very clean. On our last afternoon we used the Spa which was very relaxing with a beautiful indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and a range of showers. The staff were friendly and helpful, in particular Miguel on the front desk. The breakfast buffet was very good and well organised with a one way system and compulsory hand sanitiser at the entrance (though unbelievably a few selfish guests moaned at having to use this every time). The bar snacks were also great. It wouldn’t be a review without finding something to improve upon and our only disappointment was the A La Carte restaurant which we ate at once. We went bed and breakfast so can’t comment on the dinner buffet as we did not try it. We would recommend sampling the many different surrounding seafood restaurants such as Evaristo and A Sardinha both of which are excellent. We would strongly recommend this hotel and happily give 5 stars which we rarely do.

After two years of not being able to travel we decided to come to this hotel for a weeks stay in October and it was the best decision we made! We booked with Jet2holidays two weeks before and got a fantastic deal. The hotel is very relaxed, all of the staff including reception, cleaners, drivers etc where all so pleasant and attentive. Our room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels, the bed was very comfy and the poolside is well kept but the pool is very cold!
We had breakfast most days and really enjoyed it there was plenty of choice and the pastry and pancakes where to die for. The toast machine was probably the worst part about breakfast because it took so long.
Only downside about the hotel is that you have to get a taxi to most places but that wasn’t much of an issue as there is a free shuttle bus 3x a day or they can ring a taxi for you which doesn’t cost much. There is a private beach a couple of minutes away which is worth going too. We went to the old town most nights and that was fantastic. The marina is also good too and that is about 30minute walk.
The drinks at the bar where quite expensive, sometimes cost over €10 for two people so we didn’t drink too much in the hotel but we found that prices where similar to this in the old town too… Never been to a 5* hotel before so I can’t compare but I really couldn’t complain about our experience we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Weather was fantastic through the day but got quite cold at nights as it can be windy. Would recommend wearing something abit warmer for night times.
Thanks to all the staff for making our trip so relaxing and enjoyable.

The reviews for this hotel were so negative that I came here with very low expectations. To be fair, most of the hotels I could find in this area had horrible reviews - so much so that I came here with the last half of my trip unhooked. I figured I would check it out and play it by ear. I was pleasantly surprised when everything at the hotel was lovely! The hotel is new and the rooms are spacious. I requested the two twin beds be combined and thought it would be weird or uncomfortable but I could barely notice it wasn’t a king. I’m pretty picky about beds, but this one is very comfy with plush, down pillows. The room is so spacious it is almost suite-like, with a balcony overlooking beautiful palm trees and a garden, and a shower with water pressure that is heavenly. The room also has a coffee machine and 2 nespresso packets and a water bottle that are replenished daily. Someone from guest relations, Beatriz, left me chocolates and dessert in my room every day and texted me on WhatsApp after check in to ask if I needed anything. The handout I was given said they gym opened at 10am but I was pleasantly surprised when I could use it at 8am (and there were several others!). I picked this resort for its proximity to the beach (and I read online that the beach had a restroom and bar / restaurant). The restroom at the beach is open to the public and you can rent a chair and umbrella for 18 euro a day on the beach. The restaurant / bar has great cocktails, yummy food and descent prices. I only paid for the breakfast version of this hotel and breakfast every day was delicious. I spent the rest of the day on the beach, which is not part of the hotel. I was consistently impressed with this hotel - truly 5 stars and very reasonably priced!! So impressed that I’ve booked another stay and will be back later this week.

Good service from all members of staff and in particular Miguel in the lobby who gave some great recommendations on where to eat in the local area.
The bar and restaurant staff were also super friendly and helpful, in particular a member of staff (can’t remember his name unfortunately) who really did go the extra mile with his knowledge of wines, the local area and most importantly when the next football game was on!
A few things to highlight for me:
We found the A La Carte menu isn’t really good enough quality to be considered A La Carte. The rice that came out with it was very soggy and the batter on the fish my partner head had no crisp to it.
We also felt the evening buffet priced at €35 is a bit over priced for what you’re getting. It mainly consists of burgers, pastas, salads, fries and the odd local dish, or a seafood section at the end. We much preferred to either eat before the poolside bar/kitchen closed as the food was of higher quality or order room service.
The poolside bar/kitchen area really should consider serving iced coffees, smoothies or even milkshakes as a cool refreshing alternative to alcohol or fizzy drinks. We ended up going to the beach restaurant to get iced coffees and milkshakes and really enjoyed them. The cocktails were lovely though when we did have them :)
The cleaning staff are also very friendly and cleaned our room thoroughly before we returned. I couldn’t fault them in anyway whatsoever.
We also booked in for a massage in the spa and I have to say it was excellent, the staff were very calming, friendly and it was a very relaxing experience. The gym is also well equipped with a good range of equipment to focus on each area of the body.
All in all I’d say it was a good experience staying at this hotel, not quite 5 star in our opinion but a very solid 4. Would recommend to others. Thank you for making our stay a positive one!

I thoroughly recommend this hotel which is set in a beautiful quiet area very close to the beach. We loved everything about it.
The room was spacious with a lovely balcony overlooking some gardens, it was cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis with toiletries replenished as often.
When we needed anything to be brought up to our room, the staff were super efficient and our needs were met almost immediately.
The buffet food catered for many types of diets as we had vegetarians as well as meat eaters amongst us. There was plenty for breakfast and dinner and the breakfast boasted an array of sweet and savoury options, we especially like the local traditional cakes!
The outdoor swimming pools were surrounded by beautiful gardens and there was an indoor one too which was equally lovely.
What made the stay even more special was the very short walk to the beach from the hotel, there was a path through the hotel's grounds leading to a gate which then opened up to the most magnificent views of the beach. It is stunning!
The staff were the friendliest I have ever encountered, honestly that it what truly made the experience special, warm, helpful and very friendly staff.

This hotel is in a beautiful setting but is poorly designed. Guests have to walk a circuitous route to get to where the want to be due to this bad layout. Heaven help you if you try, as I did, to use the toilet in the restaurant after eating in the restaurant! I was pointed at and shooed away. When paying over £250 per night one shouldn’t be shooed out of anywhere but on two different occasions staff would point and tell you to go a long way round. It would be far better if the hotel a) trained their staff to be polite b) signposted if a thoroughfare was blocked off and c) thought about whether that was necessary in the first place.
On raising this with the duty manager I was disappointed - she shrugged and said she couldn’t do anything about structural issues and laughed when I mentioned that in a 5 star hotel staff shouldn’t be pointing at guests and telling them “go the other way -go the long way round outside” as if guests were naughty school children.
Room cleaning was sporadic too, though at least these staff were friendly. On one occasion after leaving the room at 9 with the make up room sign on, the room wasn’t made up until after 4pm, making popping back for an online meeting difficult.
A bar snack of crudités and humours was inedible due to the foul pesticide smell and taste on the crudités!
A 5 star hotel needs 5 star customer service - something this hotel is sadly lacking in. This is a shame as it is in such a beautiful setting.

Currently on our second day in this hotel and the experience has been poor from the get go. At check in we were met with an unhelpful and unfriendly member of staff who couldn’t even arrange our room for what was already a late check in time of 3pm. Room safe didn’t work, battery had to be replaced, coffee pods teas and chocolates were not restocked on the second day. The beach bar played horrible music and charges an exorbitant fee to use the sun beds. Also, the indoor pool is chargeable at €5 per person per day, and that doesn’t include spa access. So far the only upsides are the size of the room and the oat and banana pancakes at breakfast. Lastly, the hotel layout is poor, there’s no signage and it’s devoid of any atmosphere, feels like a ghost hotel and it’s not close to any amenities either.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for sharing your experience at our Hotel NAU São Rafael Atlântico. We are very sorry to hear that your stay fell short of your expectations and we offer our sincere apologies in advance. We would like to point out that this type of situation is not at all usual in our hotel. Our aim is to always provide a quality service to all our guests. Our Check In starts from 3pm onwards. This information is available on all our partner websites as well as on our official website. The hotel is not the concession holder that explores the beach. The company that holds the São Rafael beach concession is a private company that has no association with our hotel. In addition the indoor pool is free of charge, however the use of swimming cap is mandatory and costs 5€ each, nevertheless the guests are not forced to buy it on our SPA and can use their own. We hope to be able to welcome you again in the near future and we will do everything we can to make your stay a truly memorable one. Kind Regards, Beatriz Português Guest Relations

Me and my partner spent a week at the hotel in July at our arrival our first impressions were that the hotel is beautiful and very scenic. We were on an early flight so our room was not available until 3pm. The reception staff were very accommodating and polite who then advised that they would have our room ready as soon as possible and assured us they would send the maid to clean the room so we could access the room early which they did. We booked a bed and breakfast stay. Breakfast was average however doesn’t live up to 5 star standard as I have stayed in many 5 star hotels. Around the pool is we’re the majority of your stay is spent during the day time which once again is very aesthetically pleasing but that is the only pleasing thing about the hotel is the way it looks. The pool/snack bar staff were horrendous and completely ruined our experience. Just to name a few things we ordered drinks round the pool which never showed up after waiting 45 minuets we then went to the bar and re ordered the drinks and nobody had notice that we ordered these 45 minutes ago! The price of the bar was abysmal. If I am paying €4.50 for a coke at a 5 star hotel the least I would expect is a can or glass bottle this was not the case it was in fact a family bottle of Coke getting poured into a glass. It takes 2 staff members to bring over 2 small pots of Mayonnaise and there is always 5 staff members stood at the bar and when u try and get there attention they look the other way and pretend they haven’t seen you. Everything seemed like a chore for them and their attitude reflected this. The hotel offers a dinner buffet option which is between €30-€40 euros per person as a disabled person who was having a bad day with my mobility me and my partner decided we would eat there we walked in and walked straight back out as the standard of the food was despicable I wouldn’t eat there for €5 never mind €40 therefore had no option other than to order an Uber eats. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Portugal and will be escalating this matter with TUI who we booked our holiday with. I am flabbergasted that this is a 5 star hotel and think this needs reconsideration.

Nothing especially bad but certainly nothing stand out about this hotel
Looks very inviting as you come up the ramp to the front doors and the reception is huge, and feels 5 stars but that's where the 5 stars end.
As soon as we went to the desk to check in the staff are so uninterested and nobody looks like they want to be there, this continues with the bar, restaurant staff etc. Not so much as a smile or anything from anyone - bizzare
Haven't been in an non heated swimming pool for a long time, all 3 of the pools are not heated and hardly anyone uses them due to this. A lot of people will walk up, dip a toe in and go back to the loungers. Took my breath away as soon as I got in, was quite funny watching peoples expressions and gasps as they eventually got in. It's a shame as the pools are lovely and clean, but too cold to actually enjoy, I found it warmer in the sea!
The rooms are way too dark, everything around the hotel is the same brown paint and there's not enough lighting. Half the sockets in the room don't work, the sink is probably another week away from being totally blocked and unusable, toilet seat loose, dirty grouting and the list goes on. I wouldn't be so bothered if I'd have paid 3 star prices but to give yourself 5 stars you really need to up your game.
Someone else in the reviews mentioned the weird layout, the routes through the hotel are odd and although the hotel is quite big there's actually a lot of empty space, huge decking with nothing on, empty terraces, hallways that go nowhere!
Our room had been made/cleaned at the same time each day which was nice though. Nevermind eh!
