We originally wanted to walk on to the Matthews Arm campground, however because of the holiday weekend we just missed the cut off to get on the campground. We were given a list of places to call and Gooney Creek Campground was one of them. Here is a pros and cons list of this campground: Pros: -Nice campground hostess; she...

We've been there for a night and it was really nice. It maybe not the most recent place but I liked that it was a small and cosy place and even though almost of the site were occupied, it didn't felt over crowded. The creek is lovely and we swam in the little pool there, it was really refreshing after...

There is a very large overpass that was recently constructed over the creek. You can see the cars day and night as well as hear them throughout the campsite. The busy highway is ~55 MPH. It was terribly jarring to listen to not to mention nothing serene or remote about it. We were within a few hundred feet of the...

We wanted to travel down to Shenandoah National Park for Columbus Day weekend and ended up not booking a campsite at the national park early enough, so we were left with few options. We decided to book with Gooney Creek because of it's proximity to Skyline Drive and the fact that it had availability. Pam was delightful on the phone...

Gloria and her daughter Pam are wonderful hosts. My brothers and I from the Roanoke, Va. met our sister from Lewisburg, Pa. to camp and kayak the Shenandoah River. We had spots 24 &25 and they were shaded and off from the other sites. The bathhouse had nice hot showers with good pressure. It's very affordable these ladies go out...

Absolutely terrible..... do not go. Stayed two nights because we had to. Worst experience of our lives. Also you can't see it in the pictures, but the highway is less then 100 ft from the campsites. Plus they are currently under construction.

My time at Gooney Creek comes at a complete disappointment. As some people mentioned the place is very cluttered when you first arrive. Bath house and toilets are suspect at best and I felt more comfortable jumping in the creek. The only good thing was we were on site 19. This site was away from the rif-raf of the road...

I am currently on a cycle tour in America, and choose this campsite as it was cheap and it was getting late. Out of the places i've stayed so far this is definitely the worst. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the bathhouse is unclean, the sites are very close together, and the owner not particularly helpful. When I read negative...

This is a C- campground. Rated average above only because it is not necessarily poor. Not to say that it couldn’t be a very nice campground. As mentioned in the title, maintenance is an issue. This campground is close to Front Royal and to Shenandoah NP. There is easy access to the South Fork of the Shenandoah River with plenty...

“site 5 is the BEST view but normally reserved for 2 families / couples traveling together...10 - 14 are also good spots. and only 2 site "babbling brook front" with elec and water hook-ups”

“Stay on the creek as the sound of the water will drown out the traffic and other site noise as they are close together and more private on the creek too.”
