I took my extended family to the Flint Hill Public House last Friday evening to celebrate a special occasion. There was only four of us and we made a reservation for 7PM; when we arrived both main dining rooms were near empty which should have been a red flag to us. The restaurant staff were all very nice which makes...

Thanks for your feedback. Not sure what date you came, but most people sit outside on our patio this time of year. We have just changed chefs, so the food you received was the end of one chef's tenure and apologize for the lack of quality and consistency. We are in the process of creating a children's menu, but can...

I hate to write this , but the Public House is no longer a place I enjoy. They have recently gone thru a lot of Management change as well as trying to get a Menu that works for the area. My wife and I went on a Monday night. We were the only people there. The service was so odd.......

How you were treated is not consistent with how we run our business and I apologize for the server's inattention. We are in the process of transitioning to feature steaks and the menu, while new, should have been well known to the server. My apologies and hope you will give us another try soon.

My daughter reserved a table for our family to celebrate Mother's Day. She was never told that the brunch was a fixed menu. The place was clearly under-staffed and under prepared to bring any of the food to the table hot (over even warm) and the food quality for a $30 fixed menu was horrible, tasteless, and just plain stupid...

My apologies for your Mother's Day experience. We were clearly overwhelmed, not by people who, like you, made reservations, but by a large number of walk-ins. Unfortunately, it was too late by the time we realized we should have turned them away or ask them to wait. If you will email me at info@flinthillva.com, I will send you a gift...

Selfishly, I chose not to write a review of Flint Public House, because I didn't want the world to find out about it. Well, it's too late, so I give up! My boyfriend and I first stumbled upon Flint Hill Public House after a day at the wineries (I think about 2 years ago...it might be 3.) From the moment...

My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at FHPH this past weekend which started with a lunch for 14 family and friends followed by 3 couples taking up all but one of the rooms for an overnight stay. The attention from the staff was outstanding and all 3 of our meals were excellent. The rooms are all very...

This was a very unpleasant experience. I was there with my girlfriend on Tuesday, and walked in at 11:32. Hostess seated us with brunch menus. We check it out for a bit and then suggested that perhaps there was a regular lunch menu (Tuesday; and the fancy stuff at $25-$30 seemed more appropriate for a Sunday meal, not the common...

I am truly sorry that your experience was not to your satisfaction. You have raised several issues that I would ordinarily attempt to address, but it seems pointless when you use insensitive characterizations -- it makes the entire review suspect. You are not required to like someone, or what they are wearing, nor the food for that matter (which apparently...

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! We had our 25th wedding anniversary party here with 40 of our closest friends and family. The staff at Flint Hill Public House went out of their way for us - above and beyond! The staff spent a good amount of time decorating the dining room with beautiful linens and flowers...

Sometimes I'm looking for rustic country lodging and others I want a comfortable modern surroundings. The Country Inn here is luxurious, accomodating and modern. The large screen swivel TV that turns 360 degrees allows watching from living room couches to bed....and even from the bathroom. The restaurant and lounge served up great fare (try a wildly walnut bourbon pie or...

This place knocked it out of the park for our party of 50 for a family wedding rehearsal dinner. Great service, delicious steak, local wines, white chocolate mousse - my dinner was amazing and the compliments across the board for the setting, dinner & service were plenty. Really glad we picked this place, highly recommended.

Great little spot in the middle of... nowhere. The staff was great. We checked into the Wakefield Suite. The room was modernized, large, clean and comfortable - But even with all of the updates and comforts, the house hadn't lost it's historic charm. Dinner outside was delicious. The only complaint was the portion size. The serving was a little small...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
More than 100 years of history..Perched on a hill above the namesake village it overlooks, Flint Hill Public House & Country Inn is a large white house that is hard to miss. The building is a former schoolhouse that has been a fixture in the area for more than 100 years. In the early 1900s, a one-room schoolhouse was moved from the premises to make room for a new school called the Flint Hill School. Built in 1906, the new school was instrumental in educating Rappahannock County children until 1960, when the property was sold and became a private residence. In 1986, the schoolhouse/residence was sold and renovated and opened as The School House Restaurant. In 1992, the restaurant operation was leased as The Flint Hill Public House until it closed in 2008. In June 2011, new owners purchased the property and undertook an extensive renovation and redesign, hiring noted Washington, DC, architect Ernesto Santalla. The complete renovation took the building down to the bare walls and included moving an interior stairwell to the outside to accommodate four luxury suites on the expansive second floor. The new Flint Hill Public House & Country Inn opened in early 2012 – ready for another 100 years as a local landmark and gathering place. ... more   less
