The Hartness house is a nice place to get away to in southern Vermont. Clean simple rooms, great atmosphere and a fantastic staff make this a great find. The telescope and museum are both well worth a visit and anyone with an interest in history should definitely stop in.

Ken, Thanks for the clean, simple review. We're proud to be down here in southern Vermont, just a stone's throw away from all kinds of great attractions and adventures. We are proud of our fantastic staff and the always interesting Hartness-Porter Museum. History buffs, foodies, antiquers and outdoorsmen alike will find lots to do here at the Hartness House Inn...

I found Hartness House through a Groupon and couldn’t be happier. My husband and I desperately needed some time away from the house. We showed up before check in time and were greeted warmly by David who said it was no problem checking us in early. The weekend just got better and better from that point. We were fortunate enough...

Talk about exemplary house guests. If Debbie and Jeff wrote a book on how to be fantastic, it would sell a million copies. I'm not sure if D+J are happier that they found us or if we're happier that we found them. I am grateful for the new bond we've formed. We look forward to having you with us again...

I have to begin by saying some of the comments in the reviews were a bit harsh given the fact that the new hosts are up front about the changes and their dedication. It is our understanding that this B&B was recently taken over by new management and they are in the process of cleaning up the home, making changes...

Myself, wife and baby spent three nights in room 205. I booked and paid for the place, later read others' reviews concerning bed bugs here, then stayed here. Needless to say, I asked about the bed bugs when I checked in and was told it had been cleared up. For the record on this sensitive topic, I had no bed...

Family and I stayed one night at HH on a recent trip through VT. The Inn is located on a small hill beyond downtown Springfield, so it was very quiet there. Our Carriage House rooms were in back of the main Inn. There is an inner hall passageway to get to them although they can be accessed from a side...

We stayed for 2 nights at Hartness House and really enjoyed our stay, The house itself is very nice and atmospheric. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Our room was in the annex, one of the so-called contemporary rooms. I personally did not like the room as everything in it was old and dated, including the bathroom. The atmosphere was...

Hello! Thank you for your stay and for appreciating the historic atmosphere of our Inn as well as the quality of our staff. The annex rooms are our cheapest rooms as they do not have the historic value of our mains rooms, however we will be renovating them soon and hope that you will see an improvement! As our ingredients...

Spent 2 nights here in a beautiful suite. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the meals on site. The tour through the tunnel was an added bonus to learn more a out the history of the inn. We would definitely visit again

Hi John, Thank you for your kind words. We are glad that you enjoyed your time at the historic Hartness House Inn. You got to try some of our food, that's great. We just adopted new menus for the Governor's Room and the Telescope Tavern. We always love taking folks down into the tunnel and telescope museum. It's a unique...

Even though we now live in another part of the country, I grew up near there, and I remember when the Hartness House was indeed a class act. Staying there in June 2015 reminded me of a line Bette Davis used in an old movie ("Beyond the Forrest"), "What a dump!" Our room was on the lower level in the...

Dear David Y, Thanks for your review. It's a shame you're not interested in staying with us again. It's true that we have some tired furniture and carpets in certain areas of the inn, but we have renovations planned for the coming months! We've only just got our hands on this place and we still have much to do. The...

The Hartness House is a stately hotel, truly a historical treasure. My husband and I stayed there on June 19th, 2015 in the Charles Lindburg room. All seemed well until about 4 days after our stay when my husband began seeing and feeling itchy welts from head to toe! He visited the doctor because the itching was SO bad. The...

Dear Dale and Susan, We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay at the Hartness House and apologize for the inconvenience caused. 115 bites sounds awful! It happened that I've stayed in exactly the same room for a week right before your visit. We have had a pest extermination company thoroughly clean all of our inn's rooms...

I hate to write negative reviews, but....hubby and I were very disappointed with our recent stay at the Hartness House. From what we observed, two guys (Dave and Zack) seem to do all the work (room cleaning, cooking, tours, maintenance, etc.). This old house has such potential, if only the off-site group of owners would put some money into it....
