It was a delight to be one of the first guests under the new ownership of Heidi Lauren. She was thoughtful and attentive in all of her communications and even more so in person, making our stay easy and restful. Our room was sweet and cozy and very clean. The snowshoe trails were a highlight of our stay, and the...

A Vermont institution now under dynamic new ownership. Cozy fireplaces everywhere, scenic and spectacular cross-country skiing, incredible views, friendly environment. Memorable moments to be had in all seasons!

Thanks so much for writing, Kesha! The skiing has been so amazing this year, I have to remind myself we also have a private beach in the summer! And yes, Highland Lodge is quite the Vermont institution - we just celebrated our 90th birthday this year. Glad you had a great time and we look forward to having you back....

Expecting do-it-yourself breakfasts, we were pleasantly surprised to find that new owner Heidi provides great breakfasts and caters to special needs, as well as adding special treats like Christmas cookies and amaretto rice pudding. Our extended family spent an evening chatting around the fireplace and enjoyed lingering over breakfast. Heidi even opened the kitchen early to accommodate an early departure....

It was such a pleasure having you and your family with us for Christmas. The amaretto rice pudding was inspired by my family's Norwegian tradition of Risengrot (rice pudding) on Christmas Eve. My mom also spoiled us with amaretto cheesecake on Christmas night, so I decided to combine the two traditions. And I appreciated hearing from your group prior to...

We have stayed at the Highland Lodge several times in summer & winter over the past two years and still cannot agree on which season we like best. Caspian Lake is a lovely small lake and the bicycling in the area is fantastic. During the winter, the point to point ski from the Lodge to Craftbury is the best in...

Thanks so much for writing, Peter! The trails right outside our door are truly gorgeous, and great for skiiers of all levels. And we look forward to renting bikes and small boats again this year in the warmer months. Looking forward to having you back! Best, Heidi Lauren

The Highland Lodge is worth a visit - or many - regardless of season. In winter, stay in a cozy room and ski the magnificently groomed nordic ski trails all the way to Craftsbury Outdoor Center. My husband and I agreed that it might be New England's most gorgeous ski trail. When there isn't snow (like last year) you can...

Thanks so much for writing! We now offer Hill Farmstead on tap in our Highland House Bar, along with other craft beers, delicious wine, and housemade cocktails. And yes, our long history has left this place with an indelible feeling of families running around, gathering by the fire, meals being shared. I wish I could put that feeling in a...

My wife's family started vacationing at Highland Lodge years ago. The other reviews mention the amenities, which are many. S' mores on the beach, blonde brownies and the meals will always be the fondest memories. The meals are more casual now as families make their own in the well equipped kitchen. A run around the lake is a good for...

Thanks so much for writing! We now offer Hill Farmstead's deliciousness on tap in our house bar, which makes it much easier to imbibe without having to drive (or run) your way back to bed. We also have lots of opportunity for hiking on our 136 acres of hills and wetlands, which continue up to Barr Hill Nature Conservancy. Hope...

Spent another wonderful week with our Highland lodge family (people we met years ago at the Lodge and have made the commitment to meet each other same time and place for the past many years). Our kids have gone from toddlers to college graduates over those years!. This is a special place...not fancy...not a place for tee shirts, board walk...

The lake is nothing overly special. Not large, and there aren't any coves or inlets to really explore, but the Highland Lodge is open until the Fall, and I rented a cottage overlooking the lake for a night, while I was in Greensboro exploring the place where Wallace Stegner wrote "Crossing To Safety". The Lodge and the property are for...

Our family has been coming to the Highland Lodge for over 25 years (was a stop on our honeymoon 2 week tour of Vt country Inns). The format of the Inn changed a couple of years ago when they went from breakfast and dinners included to providing no meal services. We met a group of families at the Inn years...

The place is quite unique (at least for someone from outside of Vermont). They are apparently selling it out but it still operates and is quite popular (aug 2013). It is quite expensive (150 USD/night for a modest small cottage, more later) but have many nice things that might compensate the price, for some people. A beautiful location with lake...

“The cottages have great views, but can be a little rowdy. The rooms looked stuffy, but appeared to be the quieter option. Bring your own food, or buy it at Wiley's General Store. The nearest restaurant is in Hardwick, about 10 minutes away.”

“we stay in cabin #2 (two bedrooms and bath with kitchenette and living area with woodstove). We have also stayed in room 28, queen bed and twin, full bath. Faces road with some road noise but this rural Vt., surely not a big issue.
