A lot of deer, turkeys, etc for great pictures! Had the whole park pretty much to ourselves..... and was a beautiful day too - shirts level weather even on the lake. The state park completely surrounds the lake.

Campsites are clean,RV pads are fairly level.Clean bathrooms. Lots of trees and wildlife to see. Good FISHING! Boat, kayak and canoe rentals. Friendly park staff. Park rangers do patrol often,so if your loud, expect to see them in your camp. Been going here for years!! Good for families and retired.

Terrible Rangers!!! Very aggressive. They admitted there were no noise complaints but said "I'm complaining" and issued several citations. Took the two officers more than two hours to write the citations and then at 3 am, they told the group that they had to leave the park. Have NEVER been treated so poorly!! Will never return!!

Love the beach. We could even take a nap after swimming and did not smell like fish or get stained clothing from the water. A no wake lake it was peaceful and serene. The family fished, but did not catch anything. There is no public drinking of alcohol on the beach. The camp grounds were well shaded. Just far enough... More

The swimming area is small and sort of part of the parking lot, no trees. Nice for paddlers. Most of the campsites are far from the water with no view. Campsites 27 and 30 have a water view. Screened shelter 5 is right on the water, 6 is close. The sign is down coming from the east, so look for... More

We drove 3+ hours to have the staff tell us the backcountry trails were closed due to 2 inches of rain from the day before. So call ahead! The lady at the front was nice. Since backpacking primitive camping was out of the question, we decided to stay at a regular tent site. There was so much road and air... More

I've been in this park many times before. The last time was in 2010, and this time OMG nature has change it! The lake is empty. We could walk to the little island when we use to swim there. It has no water!! Sites are ok as before but need improvement. Hiking are still amazingly nice. We need to visit... More

Been many times. Only gets better. Hence need to call ahead. Several levels of camping. Screened shelters to primitive. Best rock climbing around here. Nice lake tho down right now and if you forget anything head to the store on site. If he doesn't have it Walmart not far :)

My parents encouraged my family and I to check out this park and we sure are glad we did. Our trip got cut short due to severe thunderstorms that were coming in and they refunded me my last nights fee in under 30 seconds which was very cool. Our favorite part was hiking in Penitentiary Hollow. It's nice to not... More

Stayed a couple nights here with 3 families and had a great time with kids/teens. Lots of things to do: hiking, bike trails, rappeling/rock climbing (must sign waiver and have appropriate gear), and can rent canoe/kayaks on the lake. We stayed in sites 32-34 and had no issues. The drought is apparent in that lake is low and campsites are... More
