We have spent a week at Bluebay Beaxh club with 2 teens. We upgraded to a penthouse and it was worth it for the hot tub. All of the staff we met were really helpful and courteous. Everyone wanted to help without effort and we were always made to feel welcome. Big shout out to Marco on reception and to the lovely lifeguard with a beard. What a kind and beautiful human being he is, we left him a bottle of wine for just being kind, respectful and helpful. Positives Great pool and good for kids Large balcony and rooms (penthouse) Staff helpfulness - top effort Covid management Location is good, restaurants and shop in 5 min walk l, much better with hire car tho. Happy hour 12-2pm Plenty of sunbeds and they remove the towels is not used (bravo)! Quality of food was food (burgers, pizza etc) Negatives Entertainment was poor quality and not on everyday - better than nothing though. Car parking limited but road parking free (although a bit of a bun fight) Rooms and pool area needs some TLC could be 4* easy with this. No information on check in - rules, room info, safe (you have to pay €20 extra), hot tub controls, phone number for reception. No food in restaurant after 5pm We would return to Bluebay Beach Club as the positives far outweigh the negatives but it could be that little bit better and maybe it is just not in Covid times. Thanks everyone for making our holiday so lovely.

Hotel - the hotel is nice, the public areas are kept very clean and it didn’t feel unsanitary in any way. The pool is fun, it’s a bit old and a little tired in places but our kids loved it. The lifeguard is very friendly and wanted to make sure the music wasn’t too loud or anything like that, and the restaurant staff are all very lovely. Marco on reception was very helpful but unfortunately the other people on reception were less so, meaning when he left notes for his colleagues to action the following day they didn’t until we chased. The pool restaurant snack bar is good for a drink, we only ate there once and the food was average. 2 weeks before the trip I saw that one of the suite apartments was available and tried to contact the hotel to pay to upgrade. After 16 phone calls and 6 emails I was told a note had been put on our reservation and to sort it out at the reception on arrival. When we arrived they didn’t have the room available any more. I had also asked the guest relations lady whether we needed a hire car and she didn’t respond, which would have been helpful if she had in hindsight. Which brings me onto the next point… Location - this hotel is not in the best location on the island. The beach is not very inviting compared to the other golden Sandy beaches nearby in Amadores for example. The biggest issue for us was the taxis - we were a family of 4 and at the moment they are only allowing 3 people in a taxi to ensure social distancing. This was a big problem for us and very expensive as we had to get 2 taxis everywhere as we were unable to get a rental car once we had arrived on the island. You can’t walk to any of the local attractions from the hotel so we wasted lots of money travelling! There are buses but again due to the location it’s a long way to travel anywhere, to get from the hotel to the water park (15m in taxi) would have been 27 stops on the bus. I had read about the go kart track and airfield causing noise disruption but that was not our experience, the airfield didn’t bother us at all the light aircraft that were using it were infrequent. The go kart track was closed so that obvs didn’t bother us! Rooms - they are very spacious and kept nice and clean. They have very basic amenities, I was expecting a wider range of cooking utensils and an oven (had to throw our oven pizzas away when we realised we didn’t have any way of cooking them!) but there’s just a hob and microwave so bear that in mind when shopping. Spare pillows and blankets would have been beneficial was the pillows were quite flat and it got quite chilly in the night! Overall - I went into this holiday expecting it to be cheap and cheerful but I did expect that at the least the hotel staff would communicate properly with us. The pool was lovely though and overall we had a super time and enjoyed lots of quality time on our long overdue family holiday.

I visited the Blue Bay Hotel with my partner and stayed for 7 nights. The Hotel is quite well presented but it is not a four star Hotel. This is mostly filled with Time Share residents and obviously clients who share or part share apartments on the complex. The food in the Restaurant (I use the word loosely) is below average and is really for a snack bar as opposed to a Restaurant in its truest sense of the word. We were there in the Off Peak Season and so there were no children or entertainment around the pool which suited our holiday. Overall we had a pleasant experience in the Hotel but would recommend this as a luxurious or pampered type holiday. There are quite pleased Restaurants very close by and fortunately the Hotel is but a stone throw away from some beautiful restaurants and bars so I would highly recommend this. Top Tip - the POOL IS FREEZING on the off peak season.

Having read the reviews here before we left, we had some concerns. Definitely feels like a "marmite" hotel with lots of positive and negative reviews. Here's our view. Rooms/Apartments are very spacious; we travelled as a family of 4 and had a 2 bed apartment (also 2 bath) and balcony. Some reviews mention it's a bit dated - I'd agree that a coat of paint and some new furniture would help. In our experience the rooms are very clean as well - on holiday in warmer climates you might see some extra bugs not used to in the UK but very few and far between and it really didn't bother us. We were self-catering and tended to have simple breakfasts/lunches in the apartment and went out in the evening. Beds are quite firm - we found that challenging but on request the hotel provided some extra toppers which made a small difference to some of us. The hotel could provide a range of toppers to help customers - I've seen it mentioned here and heard from other guests that the firmness of the beds made sleep difficult. The overall service from the hotel was excellent - all of our requests were dealt with and with a smile. Our apartment for the week was about £900, which for a family during half term we thought was very reasonable. Wifi/TV - YES, you have to pay for these but remember your UK data and minutes can be used (while we are in the EU) at no extra cost. As a family of 4, we use a lot of wifi; the rate card was 60 euros for the week for three devices. We paid for this and negotiated a free 4th device as we stream as well. TV was 19 Euros for the week, we didn't see the need to pay for this. Beach - let's be clear and manage expectations - this is not a good destination if you want a hotel beach. The nearest beach is about 5 minute walk, downhill to the beach, uphill back - 120 steps. It's very small. Sunbeds are 3 Euro for the day, parasol 3 Euro for the day. Hotel pool - Yes, in February the water is cold but the pool area itself is very nice; lots of loungers (hotel was quiet though). There is a toddlers pool as well and a jacuzzi, but the water is all the same temperature. Snack Bar - standard fare; we only used it on the first day while waiting for our room. There is a happy hour from 1130 till 2pm and later on (5pm to 6pm I think) when drinks are 2-4-1 e.g. 2 beers for 3 euro and 30 cents, 2 sangrias for 4 Euros On site shop - all the basics, of course a bit more expensive than the supermarket 5 minutes away. We tended to buy "heavy" items such as milk/water/drinks and fresh bread here but buy other items from the supermarket. Go Karts/Motorbikes/Airstrip - yes all these exist behind the hotel. Have seen a few complaints on TripAdvisor and you should be aware of them, but they weren't as bad as we were expecting. I don't think it's the Go Kart track that causes the most problems, we genuinely didn't hear it - however on our first 2 days I think there were motorbike races around a different track and these did create some noise. The airstrip is used by small planes, which honestly you can barely hear and some helicopters which were a lot more noisy. I would say that only 20% of our holiday was impacted by the noise - for the rest of the time it was very peaceful and tranquil. Nearby Shopping Centre - under 10 mins away (its uphill going back but not too steep). Supermarket, usual tourist/souvenir type shops and several restaurants. Based around a small square so easy for children to play while waiting for meals. In general meals were excellent; we ate at El Belletero and La Plaza. We also ate at 928 Aroma Atlantico which is about 10 minute taxi (less than 10 Euros) away - really nice - good food and great service. Depending on the day you can smell the drains; but not overpowering, definitely worth a try. We sat indoors as you can see the kitchen as well which always helps atmosphere we think. So it's not a perfect destination and there are some aspects to be aware of. Maybe we got a bit lucky with the noise, but overall we all had a great time.
