Stayed for 5 days in July. Hotel is beautiful, looks like a Mediterranean village and is spotlessly clean outside. Had a family room with a large bed and fold out for my child. Beds very comfortable, good sized room with plenty of storage. Large bathroom with great shower. Room and bathroom were very clean. Air conditioning was very good. Corridors could have done with a good hoover. We were on the ground floor and a table/chairs for patio area outside room would have been a great addition. I don't think rooms with balconies had any either. Room had a hairdryer and fridge although it isn't connected but is does still keep drinks from being warm. Two good sized pools with plenty of sun loungers. For some unknown reason, if you wear glasses you need to have a string on them or you're whistled out of the pool or you have to go into the pool blind. Seems a bit discriminatory but if you want to use the pool you need the string - these are available to buy in the hotel gift shop. Check in was straightforward, we arrived before room was available but you can store your luggage and explore. We left our mobile number to text us when room available but this didn't work and we had to wait in a long line again to get our room number. The App to book breakfast slots didn't work either. Dinner is served later than we would we would have liked, 7.30pm but I guess this is the Spanish way. Food was buffet style, lots of choices and all excellent. Very organised and waiting staff were friendly and helpful. I felt the hotel was missing poolside snack bars/somewhere to buy cold drinks. There is a restaurant at the main pool but they don't even allow you to fill up water bottles, not great with temperatures in the 40's. Only discovered on our second last day that you can buy takeaway food from the small restaurant in the square. Reception should make guests aware of all facilities but this didn't happen. The best thing about this hotel is the proximity to the theme parks, the main park entrance is accessed via the hotel and Ferari Land and water park is 2 minutes away. There's a show every evening (the same show) in the square for young kids but nothing for adults. Overall we had a lovely stay and would go back.

FAB FAB FAB., don’t understand the bad reviews honestly., I hardly ever write reviews but i felt like i had ti speak up for this hotel after reading the bad reviews. I actually considered changing hotel because of the bad reviews so glad i didn’t. Firstly we arrived approximately 11.30am we were met by a bellboy who took all our luggage, i was here with my husband and two children aged 4 and 6. Check in was straight forward yes i did have to queue but not too long, they are machines there if u checked in online u can use these to check in. We were given out key cards which was also tickets to the park and was told our room was not ready which i didn’t expect it to be ready anyways because it was only 11.30am. We were told we would get a text when the room was ready and we could go in enjoy the park and we could pick up our cases from the case room later. We were also given food vouchers for lunch that we could eat in numerous restaurants in park written very clearly on the back of the vouchers in multiple languages (don’t understand the bad reviews saying nothing was explained its not rocket science)🙈🙈 We were told we had to book breakfast slot and showed us a QR code to scan to do this. We were told dinner was from 7.30pm to 10.30pm and there was no need to book in advance) We got a text at 1.30pm., when we arrived back later i went to room with children while my husband got the cases and the bell boy very kindly helped. The room was an adequate size, there was a mini fridge and a safe in the wardrobe. The AC was excellent. Only one negative. We went for dinner around 9pm in the restaurant and OMG there was around 60 people in queue outside the restaurant and no sign of it moving. Both kids were cranky and hungry so i went in and asked receptionist was there any chance i could get vouchers and eat in alternative restaurant. She was lovely very understanding and gave me 2 adult vouchers worth 21 euro each and two children’s vouchers worth 10.50 euro each. We did this every night as we couldn’t do that queue each night with the kids. I was a little disappointed with this as the restaurant looked fab and as i was passing i took a few sneak peaks in window and the food looked fab too. Apart from that very nice hotel, wonderful staff , lovely room , excellent AC in room. Libations perfect right in the park

I really don’t understand all the negative reviews. This was our fourth visit to this hotel and after reading the bad reviews I was worried but there was no need to worry. Yes, if you try and eat in the buffet restaurant any later than 7.45pm you will be in a long queue but you can avoid this by booking an a la carts restaurant in the theme park or in the on site a la carte restaurant. Also avoid reception in the morning as it is busy. You can book and alter your breakfast slot or hotel a la carte evening meal via the online app. Stay round the pool until late afternoon when it is really quiet then pop into the theme park in the evening when the queues aren’t as long and it is cooler. I would recommend taking a travel kettle and mugs as there aren’t any facilities in the room, I also took a bottle so I could grab some milk at breakfast time and keep it in the fridge in the room. The food in the evening and breakfast was of a good standard for Spain, lots of choice. I didn’t come across one grumpy member of staff, they were all lovely. Our sink plug got stuck so I reported it to reception and it was fixed within a few hours. If you go to Ferrari Land you will need to buy express tickets to make the most of your one day entry. The water park is ok but very busy and noisy, we just got tickets for our teenage boys via the ticket machine in the hotel lobby and they went by themselves, they had a great day. If you want a beach holiday then i would not stay here as it is quite a walk into town but we visit for the pool, which is lovely, and the theme park.

Stayed here 4 nights bed and breakfast. Hotel is beautiful, we had a standard room, no balcony, air con AMAZING. reception area usually quite busy. But queues go down quickly . My first issue, is they dont give you enough information about the hotel, or directions to you're room, so my tip, when you are checking in. Ask to hire pool towels, And also about fast passes and how to get them. They don't volunteer this info. We did get lost trying to find our room, and staff had no clue either. The room was cleaned daily and clean towels given. Entrance to the park is super easy, probably the best access out of all portaventura hotels, as the parade and fireworks are mostly at medditteranean end. Breakfast was good with lots of choice, plenty seating, but not air conditioned. We didn't eat at main buffet restaurant as was always full.. there is another one there, you get the choice of 3 slots for meals, breakfast was 8. 9 and 10. Not sure about evening meals but queues to get in very long !! Pool area was lovely, struggled to get a bed in the afternoon. Decent enough pool bar, with snacks, not much choice though, and not open for snacks before 4.. I think !! , there was another cafe in the main circle bit, but again not much choice, as we were bed and breakfast, felt it lacked a decent cafe in the hotel, as park food could be pretty expensive, and far to walk lol. Also could do with more vending machines for water! Would definitely stay here again though ! Got a great deal through Agoda.com . TIP for eating in the park, la cocina de epi. In sesame world, great portion size! Reasonable prices, or la cantina in Mexico because it's indoors. Huge. And sometimes has entertainment. Also the fast passes have changed dramatically since I was last here, and DONT offer the same amazing value ! There are vending machines to buy them but they dont always work, would still recommend getting them as you will never get round the park if you don't. My kids waited 2 hours for red force. Average queue in August was over an hour for other rides.

We were staying at the Hotel Gold River and decided to visit this hotel for the buffet one evening. Having stayed here in the past we always enjoyed the facilities. However… We booked for the first sitting at 7.30 pm. We arrived around 7.15 to find that a large queue was already forming. It didn’t take to long to get in once the doors opened (late) and we were shown to a table. What can we say. The buffet was absolutely chaos and carnage, a small counter trying to serve hundreds of guests, by the time I got to the front there was no food left and nothing forthcoming either. I conceded and went to “kids corner” where I discovered about 20 kids scrambling for the solitary pizza that was left. The salad and dessert bars were just as chaotic, but at least they were stocked up. If you’re staying here be prepared to queue, use your elbows and wait for food. The staff seemed to be out of their depth and any managers, if there were any, we’re hiding out the way, I was thinking of staying here on our next visit, but we won’t be after this experience. Never again.

Firstly we had a wonderful time. We’re not complainers we go with the flow and I can see the point of some other reviews. Spain and the likes isn’t our choice of holiday so we weren’t expecting much in the first place, it was merely a child’s holiday. I found the staff very nice, room lovely, clean hotel, pool fab, water park and theme park brilliant with excellent feeling around the place, very creative themes and it was just amazing inside there. I think that if you want top quality go to places with more luxury not spain/Portugal etc. You get what you pay for, we would recommend Bahamas and hawaii if you want top class hotels with excellent customer service and brilliant food. You come to a 4 star hotel you will get 4 star service. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and looked for the positives rather than all the negatives. Enjoy 😀

1. Massive queues at reception = Made us want to actively avoid addressing any issues (and there were many). The most staff members I saw on the desk were 3, and this was on a good day. This is simply not enough for the amount of people waiting for assistance. Maybe they purposely have less staff members on so that people are discouraged from addressing issues. 2. The issues we had = there was absolutely no information given to us when we checked in about the parks, or the restaurants or anything that we actually needed to know. For example, we were on full board. We were simply handed these vouchers to use for food, but was told nothing else about them. It wasn’t until we tried to use them that we were told how much each voucher costed and where we could use them. It was all a guessing game. This was the same for the park tickets. As part of the ‘benefits’ of staying at the park is that you get access to the main park and Ferrari land. Myself and my sister went to have a look around Ferrari land, only to find queue times over 2 hours for almost each ride. So we decided to head back to the hotel. When we tried to enter Ferrari land again with the rest of my family in the morning to miss the queues, we were unable to enter because we’d already used our ticket. We were never told that it was only a one day ticket and it meant that we spent ours just walking around for about 5 minutes. Waste of quite a lot of money. And no apology offered here even though the staff could see we were quite frustrated and upset that we’d spent our ticket without knowing. The main problem we had was the air conditioning. Visiting in end of July/beginning of august, temperatures reached 33/34 degrees. Our room only went down to 22 at the lowest. Our other room that my family had went down to around 14/15 degrees. While it was still cooler than outside, it still meant that when we came back from a very hot day at the park our room was still warm. We asked for this to be fixed 5 TIMES. ‘We’ll send someone to check’ was the response every single time. One of the receptionists even showed us a photo allegedly of our room to prove that it was fixed, showing us 18 degrees. This was just not the case as I took videos to show the staff that it doesn’t go further than 22 degrees. It was almost confrontational, they refused to even apologise for the fact that we’ve asked 5 times. Another time I was told that the lowest it goes is 22 degrees, even when WE KNOW that our other families room went down to 14. By this point we only had two days left so we just gave up with it. 3. Pools - I get that this hotel is mainly for the park and not a pool/beach holiday. However, on the extremely hot days when it was simply too hot to be queuing in the heat, we decided to have a couple of hours by the pool. We soon realised that we have to pay for thin itchy towels. Again we were not told this, otherwise we would have brought our own. The beds by the side of the pools were unbelievably uncomfortable. We couldn’t relax properly on them without getting a sore back, so could only spend max 2 hours sat on them. A shame as we would have spent more money buying drinks etc if we had comfy beds to return to. Also, the most annoying thing of all was not being able to wear sunglasses in the pool. Whilst this doesn’t sound much of an issue, I think this is an utterly ridiculous rule. Kids are swimming all around with lose goggles but adults aren’t allowed to swim peacefully with sunglasses on? It made going in the water unattractive because it was bright with the reflection from the water and I personally wear sunglasses all the time. What if I needed to wear prescription glasses that were sunglasses? Also the lady lifeguard was very rude when I got told to take them off, blowing a loud whistle in front of everyone as if me wearing sunglasses was such a hazard to everyone else. Ridiculous. There were also loads of hairs in the pool and leaves that had fallen in the pool. So we didn’t want to spend too long swimming and we didn’t want to spend too long on the uncomfy beds, we didn’t want to spend too long in our hot room and we didn’t want to queue for hours for the rides. Honestly we were counting down the days to get out of this frustrating place. 4. Constant loud music. Everywhere you go in this hotel, there are speakers blasting out about 5 loud songs on repeat. When you are here for 7 days this gets very irritating. We had a speaker just outside our room so we never opened our room door. By the pool it was also blasting. We moved to a place where there wasn’t a speaker by the pool but I ended up getting 15 mosquito bites whilst I was sat here for 2 hours. Obviously not the hotels fault, but I wouldn’t have tried to move away if the music was a bit quieter and more songs on the playlist. 5. The co-ordination of staff was also a pain. There were many times that I was told something by one member of staff (including in the park) and then told something different by another member of staff. This was very frustrating as we kept going back and forth. The ONLY good things I’d say about this hotel and the park: 1. They are very eco friendly and conscious. This was nice to see for such a big resort and park. 2. The rides are soo fun as long as you are prepared to queue long times for them/buy an express pass/go at off peak times. 3. The beds are big and the room in general was clean. It was mainly our treatment by the staff and lack of information given that really upset us. It was as if the staff just didn’t care at all. If everyone boycotts this place then they might show a slight interest in actually listening to customers and addressing issues. Also the lack of info made everything we tried to do difficult as there was one rule or another that we didn’t know of previously.

For english speaking people this hotel is not for you. Most of the guests are Spanish and a good number of staff struggle to communuicate with english speaking guests.Reception is a nightmare with long queues. You get a time slot for breakfast and nearing the end of this you are asked to vacate the dining room. The food and drink is expensive plus the food leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the staff are quite rude.Air con in the rooms is just about ok.Many of the doors to the swimming ppol area are left open all the time and as a result the corridors are very hot. There is no entertainment in the hotel as everything is geared to pushing you into the the very crowded theme park.Wont be back here again as will a number of other guests i spoke to.

Stayed here in July as family of 4 had been last here in 2015 and it’s not like it used to be! Initially check in was smooth but the staff have very little knowledge of the park and how things work in general, they don’t have a concierge or anyone you can ask questions to and very little staff floating around. I was in shock when I saw how dirty the hall was, the carpets were filthy this place needs a refurb or a deep clean it was disgusting. We saw a small rat / large mouse running up the hall when I mentioned to reception she laughed it off and said they were aware of it and as we were near the woods it was typical to have small animals.. eek surely pest control should be in place! Our room was delux family it was very small with 2 small beds pushed together for 4 of us! The room is very tired had a damp smell and aircon was weak. Our lights / key card reader was very temperamental. There was a lack of attention to detail i.e. the bathroom felt dirty and my feet had dirt sticking to them as it wasn’t cleaned properly, we accidentally left a small (10kg) suitcase on the bed and the bed was made around it. Only hand towels were left some days and had to ring reception and wait for larger towels. The pool was lovely but lots of hairs in the water pool loungers uncomfortable and the towel system didn’t make sense after a lengthy wait at reception where people from the check in queue were being served before me I was told by a very rude young guy we had to pay €2 to hire a towel and a €15 deposit per towel, I’ve never had this in any other hotel I stayed at, normally you have a pool attendant managing towels checking out / checking in towels by your room number. We were full board and buffet food was decent nice variety but this was overshadowed by a 40 minute wait in a long queue to get inside. When you did eventually get inside there were a lot of empty tables, the staff were unable to clear off tables turn them around quick enough. It was difficult to get a drinks order in. It just felt very chaotic and not relaxing after a busy day in the park. We had burgers at the a la carte which were extremely undercooked we both lost our appetites on these occasions. There is no bar or evening entertainment the sesame st characters used to come to the hotel for photos, balloons, games, kids disco etc but now it was only woody woodpecker on a little stage for 20 mins The park it’s self is good but it’s hard to navigate and find the rides we kept finding the exit of the ride not the entrance!! There are no maps in the park only at a hidden information desk at the entrance and the app is not very user friendly it doesn’t filter per area, doesn’t show wait times or have an interactive map. There are no characters around the park for meet and greet or photos we only saw them at the shows and night time parade which is a pity but their costumes are in need of repair poor Elmo has a few bald patches!! I’m not sure why the Elmo ride played “the little mermaid” song surely “Elmo’s song” would be more fitting!! Did management ever watch Sesame Street?? We went to the waterpark from the hotel be prepared to queue to get in!! Again no crowd control it’s a free for all and people skip queues! This waterpark is very dirty it’s in bad need of a good power wash and a chlorine rinse in the water we queued for over 30 mins for a hot dog which is not fun! There is a total lack of management and understaffing is a major problem as staff seem unable to cope with the amount of people you had to constantly queue and queues don’t move fast. Staff seem completely overwhelmed. In the park the only staff are in shops or operating the ride there’s no one floating around to point you in the right direction or assist I had a really rude older man with glasses in the water park roll his eyes at me as I asked him for assistance you feel like an inconvenience to the staff!! It feels like they don’t want to spend money to improve or upkeep and clean and it’s not cheap (3.70 for an ice pop!!!) I will be keeping my money for Disney instead the only mouse I saw at a Disney hotel was Mickey!!

Firstly if you are looking for a nice quiet relaxing holiday then this is not the place for you!! We took our two daughters (17 and 22) for a hopefully fun packed interspersed with relaxation time type of holiday. Good points Weather was lovely. Most of the staff were friendly although most of them didn’t speak much English which I don’t mind as we are in Spain after all. Buffet food was reasonable and reasonably clean. (I’ve been to worse places) Prices for drinks were fairly reasonable which was good. A bottle of wine was €17 which I thought was great. Pool water temperature was perfect. Not too cold and not too warm. Very refreshing after the heat of the day. We were full board and expected everything to be included. But this was not the case. Bad points .. where do I start? I feel I need to write this down otherwise how can they improve? Drinks were not included, only water from their water machines in the restaurants. We ended up spending a lot more money on drinks both in the park and at the hotel resort which we weren't expecting. If you could actually grab hold of a waiter when you were eating at the buffet then you were lucky!! It was so busy and there were just not enough staff to cope! We ended up getting our drinks that we ordered, after we had finished eating!! We tried the A La carte restaurant on site and were seated ok, but then left unattended for at least half an hour. No one came to ask us if we wanted drinks. So we got fed up of waiting and walked out. Food was ok, nothing special. Food in the parks was just fast food and stodge! In the heat we just craved things like salad. However we did find a gem of a place for food ,offering lovely freshly prepared salads and fruit and that was Bora Bora in the park. At no time when we first checked in, did anyone explain to us the way the park tickets worked , the meal tickets for lunch, the pool towels system… which by the way is downright stupid! You have to queue at reception daily to change your pool towels.. which considering there are always hundreds of people waiting to speak to reception, just put us off queuing as we have to queue all day long at the parks. So we ended up having only two pool towels all week because we just couldn’t face queuing anymore. I would suggest that the pool towels should be changed by the actual pools? Speaking of which… The pool areas.. The awful awful music they play everywhere you go!!! It’s like Chinese water torture! It’s the same music all day long, obviously on a loop, and it’s played at such a loud volume. It’s played by the pool , reception, in the eating areas and even in the toilets! You just cannot get away from it! Everywhere you go this awful loud music is played! You even go to bed dreaming of it. It honestly drove us all mad! You are not allowed to wear sun glasses in any of the pools, which, considering the children are all wearing goggles and hats seems a bit crazy, especially as I have to wear prescription glasses all the time , which are also reactolight glasses, meant I wasn’t allowed to wear mine, and so could not see much at all whilst swimming. I couldn’t understand the logic in this, as I’ve always been able to wear my glasses in any other pools I’ve swim in. Oh my.. the sun beds!!! So uncomfortable ! There are no cushions on them, just hard plastic which leaves marks all over your skin. So basically , you can’t really relax there for very long as it’s so uncomfortable. The pools seemed dirty, I was always picking up hairs on my rings… it was horrible! Room service was fair but on one occasion they didn’t leave us any bath towels. Tried phoning reception twice to explain . They said they would send someone up. After about an hour , someone came up and produced two towels for the pool! I tried to explain we needed bath towels and they then came back with 3 hand towels! I gave up at this point ! So we have been using hand towels to dry ourselves!! Everything seems to be too much trouble for the staff. On the last day there we came back to our room after it had been cleaned, and the housekeepers had left the door on the latch so it was open for all who fancied going in and stealing anything! Pool wi fi…. It’s rubbish. It would be nice to relax by the pool some days and just check in with things at home, or play some music or download some videos. You can’t! Wi fi just drops out all the time, if indeed you can even get it at all! It basically means you get stressed when you are supposed to be relaxing! Which is a shame as we paid a lot of money for this holiday and we really don’t feel we got value for money. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to be honest, and I wouldn’t want to return. I also didn’t mention the disgusting bathroom. One of the strips on side of bath came off and it absolutely stank to high heaven! We didn’t report it as we honestly didn’t have enough energy to make any more complaints !
