It recreates a Far West town in the grip of gold fever, where water is the protagonist with immense swimming pools simulating the twists and turns of a river. Journey back more than 200 years and visit Sullivan, the most flourishing city in the Far West, and enter 1803 when Lucy Callaghan found the gold nugget next to the Gold River. Designed to amaze visitors and provide them with a totally new experience, the exclusive facilities of Hotel Gold River combine history with cutting-edge technology, all aimed at maximum comfort for our guests. With unlimited admission to the park throughout the entire stay! The rooms, divided over different buildings, form a reconstruction of the most important parts of the town: Main Street with wooden bungalows on the outskirts, the main hotel The City Hall and abandoned railway wagons. Furthermore, we present you Ferrari Land the unique Ferrari Attraction Park in Europe to offer a real race track, the highest and most rapid vertical accelerator in Europe, including other surprises.

We booked the hotel for one night as we were in Salou with my partner and my two children 20 and 15. We booked 1 x room with two double beds. The room was very clean, you were provided with hand soap and hand wash and hand cream in dispensers and shampoo and body wash, no conditioner for those with long hair :) . The hotel was spotlessly clean along with the outside area. The pools were beautiful the water was crystal clear although a little cold with it being the end of September. You had direct access to the theme park via the Wild West. The buffet was fair there was always a variety of choice. We went full board and for lunch we were given vouchers for a meal jn the park. My son is 15 so when we booked the hotel he was classed as a child so he was given a junior voucher for food, however in the park Junior was up to the age of 12 so he could only have a Junior meal so we had to pay the difference for an adult meal, for the price we paid for the hotel I was surprised at this so they really need to be clear at check in. We got passes for the park and one entrance to Ferrari land, there were no queues so we were lucky but if it were high season all the perks of staying in a Portaventura hotel have now gone there are ZERO. It’s hard to find this info when you book as it says some rooms have perks but it’s not explicit which ones. We went at Halloween and you had to pay 35E to access the haunted house and in Ferrari land one of the experiences costs an extra 15E. Ferrari land has direct access from the park and has 3 thrill rides, we stayed 1.5 hours due to no queues. It must have been the week we went but none of the Shows were in Which was very disappointing. Next time I would download the app before booking this was useful. Back to the hotel, there was very little atmosphere there were no characters during dining and ZERO entertainment in the evening, there was only access to one pool table in the bar area which was always busy and the Saloon was closed. You had to book a time slot for dinner and breakfast we booked breakfast between 8-9 we arrived at 8.40 to be told we had to wait for the next sitting which was at 9am slightly strange but something up do with Covid, it would have been nice to gave been made aware of this. Overall we had a nice stay but the the money we paid I don’t feel it was great value, that’s due to us going a number of times to other Portaventura hotels where there were little extras, Such as , a gift in the room, express lane entrance, characters and shows in the evening.more flexible dining.

This was our third visit to Portaventure previously staying at the Hotel Caribe, and Hotel El Paso. The hotel impression on arrival was great, the main reception area was lovely. We stayed in the main building on the 1st floor corner, had great views of Salou from one window and the park and hotel outbuildings on the other. The room was large, clean and well maintained. Check in was quick and efficient and advised to book our meal times on the App (hint it sometimes worked better on 3/4g rather than the wifi) . All the staff we spoke with and dealt with from reception to restaurants were amazing, happy and always willing to help or just saying Hola. Meal times are strict and 40 mins for breakfast and an hour for dinner. After day 1 we ate outside all the time as it was quieter and felt more relaxed than inside. The food selection was varied and covered a few different tastes. We did find the food repetative after a few days but you have options and choices to keep everyone happy. As some had mentioned once the park closes there is little access to the outside world unless you drive, get a taxi or walk on the access roads which we did several times. There is a supermarket about 15 min walk away where we got a lot of our items. If you want to explore Salou and go out on evenings I would recommend any of the other Portaventura hotels where walking routes are much easier and better. Access to the park was via a short walkway directly into the park and this was the best hotel access we have eperience however some things to note:- The opening times are best checked on the App as they can change the day before. The park may open at 10am but alot of the rides will not open until 11 or even 11.30 meaning there are large queues on the rides that are open Fast pass is available - in the past we added this to our booking and have fast pass for the entitirety of our stay - this is not available now however, our longest queue in the general queue was 40 mins - if you go in quieter times avoid the cost of fast pass. This was a well themed hotel but we would not stay here again mainly due to access issues as we do not drive.

We visited off-peak in late Sept. The hotel’s grounds are really lovely - so fresh and immersive. Our room was in the “City Hall”, so we didn’t need to travel far for the buffet or park. The hotel rooms are fresh and well themed, but very basic (no tea/coffee facilities, balconies or opening windows). Our only issue was that you can’t leave the resort by foot - the only way out is via main roads without any pedestrianisation. This was an issue as the park closed at 6pm meaning there was nothing to do after the evening meal besides a kids mini-disco for half an hour. We did managed to do a morning in Salou via taxi (about €13 each way). I enjoyed the evening buffet very much. The staff are friendly and there’s a decent variety for adults and children. We stayed for 4 nights and there were 2 traditional nights and 2 “themed” nights. Breakfast was OK. I’d stay on-park at Portaventura again, but I think Hotel Caribe seems best placed for people like me who want the best of both the park and Salou.

Reviews vary greatly for this property and that in part must be due to such a varied amount of accommodation available within the Hotel Gold River complex. We had previously stayed at the highest category hotel here Mansion De Lucy and was unsure how Gold River would compare, it turned out very favourably indeed. One concern we had was finding out that the fast pass options for rides were no longer granted for length of stay and instead in general it did appear there were few advantages of staying on resort however we found out that certain fast passes that include a single ride on each of the main attractions are valid for use over 2 consecutive days, it is well worth adding on the 1st row supplement which is just 5 Euro. This alongside a Seasme Adventure fast pass of 7 Euro meant it was 50 Euro each for 2 days of guaranteed rides. So for our 5 night stay we opted for this on our 2nd and 3rd day, and then our 5th and 6th final day. Ferrari Land is still included for 1 visit per stay and we also opted for the fast pass there too 23 Euro as we expected it to be busy as it was unusually open at night after PortAventura had closed. We opted for a full board package with Jet 2 and this made our spending money on resort go so far as we found the 3 course lunch that could be taken at numerous quick service restaurants was sufficient to share so we often would split our Lunches in the park up which also include a drink (bar a 1 Euro reusable cup charge) Food quality was outstanding, works out at about £16.50 for 3 course including a drink if you aren't full board so great value, think pasta bolognese to start, chicken dippers and fries for main, fresh fruit salad for dessert and a drink. I had been in touch with the hotel prior to our visit and asked to add on our fast passes along with some flowers and Cava alongside a request for a room in the main city hall, they were extremely efficient and helpful in arranging this and upon arrival everything had been taken care of, including the requested room in City Hall with the most amazing views of both parks and the sea. I would like to know how much Disney would try and extort from you for this view. The room was very clean and serviced daily with a nice deep bath, quite noisy at 10pm which seemed to be the most popular time for guests to eat but by Midnight very quiet. I did have concerns about the bookings for the restaurant as others have commented you get a 40 min time limit for breakfast and an hour for dinner for a couple this was fine but a large family may struggle. We found out on the last 2 nights that still water was complimentary at dinner. At both breakfast and dinner there was the most wonderful bread station which had a very large choice of different bread and in the morning pastries. Food was well topped up and loads kf choice for starters and desserts, a little less so for main courses and if nothing we fancied we chose from the kids options which are more fast food. Service was lovely throughout and efficient, it was very busy at most settings, ask for a table outside if the weather is fine and it seemed surprisingly that the early setting for dinner between 7.30 and 8.30pm was the quietest. Breakfast was even busier with no quiet period but great choices and we always ate well. On arrival we safely stored our luggage in the locked luggage room, with a recommendation that high value items are also stored in the 1 Euro returnable lockers they have within that room. There is a vending machine on the ground floor of staircase for soft drinks at 3.50 Euro and water at 2.60 Euro which is think is fair enough and not much different to a premier inn vending machine. Excellent coffee and tea served in the bar at far less than Costa prices. There is a lovely shop in the hotel and purchases you make in the park can be collected there in the evening, we purchased loads of gifts as it seemed extremely good value despite the 1.15 Euro to 1.00 sterling exchange rate. Think mugs under a tenner, and t shirts always under 20 quid. We created what they call a Key account which is basically a line of credit which you settle on departure but this wasn't always understood at the tills so suggest you just pay as you go but swipe your key card each time as you accumulate points which equate to a cash back off future purchases of 35 Euro or more. Sometimes it seemed to give as much as 10% and on purchases in Ferrari shop just 1% so not entirely sure of the mechanics. We had a fridge in the room which said that it just maintained temperature rather than chilled but it did a great job for us keeping our drinks from vending machine cold for refreshments throughout the night. Check out was easy if you pay as you go, you can just store your luggage and do not need to return your key card, on our last day our cards did not work for entry to the park but the gate staff seemed to understand this and let us through without issues it did show correctly on the card that we were still resident on final day. So from us Gold River gets a maximum 5 gold 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 every member of the team were so helpful and hospitable and this is not something we regularly see in the UK especially at hotels as part of an attraction and made a huge positive difference to our stay, loved the waiting staff entertainment at dinner, awesome. Have a wonderful holiday if you are heading to Gold River and PortAventura

Just returned from 5 days at hotel gold river upon arrival we was given very basic instructions on how to find our room we got lost as it’s such big hotel they could do with providing guests with some sort of map of the hotel in your welcome pack our room itself was basic but clean the bath room door was creaking which wasn’t ideal at night as it would wake us up every time some one visited the bathroom such easy fix, the AC worked well the hotel itself doesn’t have a supermarket which is a nightmare really as the nearest shop is a 30 minute walk away you have to buy bottled water from vending machine €2.60 for a 50cl bottle rip off although the gift shop does have a very small section as you enter which as few essentials like toiletries but they are very over priced aswell €6.99 for emergency box of tampons if you do go into salou make sure you stock up on essentials like bottled water and snacks as it’s much cheaper than the hotel the evening entertainment was so basic there really isn’t anything to do at night kiddie disco all in Spanish which lasted for about 20 minutes is about it you book a time slot for your meals 40 minutes in the morning time slot isn’t long enough as you can spend 5 minutes of that queuing to get in they are very strict on 40 minute rule and hour for your evening meal the food is what you expect from Spanish hotel lots of variety providing your not a picky eater mosquito are really bad you can’t even sit by the pool and relax as you get eaten alive by them they are everywhere especially in the evening We came home covered in bites I will do desperate review on portaventura world all in all the hotel was ok for few night wouldn’t want to do any longer.

All in all disappointed with staff, very unhelpful. At no point where we informed the park would change from closing at 2330hrs to 1800hrs, meaning we missed the parade and fireworks at end of the first two days. When I eventually got hold of the Tui rep to explain very little she could do and stated she would talk to staff, also the park doesn't recognize diabetes as a medical condition meaning my son would continually have hypos in the ques due to heat and waiting so long, hotel was more for Spanish families who are extremely rude pushing past disabled mother in law. If I would go back I would stay at the Caribe again as was far superior I'm every way.

I have had the worst hotel stay in my whole life after being treated extremely rude by the restaurant staff. If your kids are not quick enough finishing the breakfast they will almost kick you out. I dont care the food quality is very low but cant accept being treated like a dog

I thought I'd share some general thoughts on both the hotel and the park. These are only my observations/opinions; hope this is helpful... THE HOTEL The Gold River has a large car park next to the main building - probably just a 2-5 minute walk away from reception (depending on how near you can park). I did the pre check-in online but couldn't get the machine in the lobby to work (tech doesn't seem to be a high priority at PortAventura!); luckily there was no queue at check-in when we arrived at 2pm so we checked in that way. The room wasn't ready, so we were given our park tickets (which also serve as room keys) and let into the park, having been told to leave our cases in the car. All good. There's a walkway that takes you straight from the Gold River area to the park itself; you arrive in the Old West/Wild West land (or whatever it's called) and into a small (paid) funfair type area where you can play games to win prizes. We had a go on a couple of the wooden coasters which were nearby and they were fun, and sure enough just after 3pm we received a text alert, as promised, with our room number. So back we went to the room, having picked up our cases en route. The rooms are in various blocks dotted around the general hotel area (all cowboy themed); ours was at the top end with a train outside it. It was a great little block, pretty small, and as we had a 2-bed family room it was brilliant. Plenty of space, with fridge and kitchen sink, a double bed and bathroom in one half, plus another double bed and two more singles (and ANOTHER bathroom) in the other. This was a real surprise – and very welcome. We had no other rooms either side of us, so it felt genuinely peaceful – especially given that we had a view onto trees and log cabins. The walk back to the theme park is quite long, though – maybe 6-8 minutes, although you can save a minute by cutting through the pools. There are three pools – two for grown ups, one very shallow one for kids. They're nice pools, possibly as much as 40 or 50 metres long, and we saw a constant flow of lifeguards there. Adjacent to one of the pools is a fast-food area that also sells drinks, but we didn't use it. They don't provide towels – you're expected to have brought these from home. Breakfast is included in many room rates, as was the case with us, and it was really good. You have to book a time slot (40 mins) via the app, but getting a table once you arrive is the work of moments and the food selection was huge. We all loved the buffet breakfasts, which had some cooked English breakfast stuff as well as cakes, fresh pancakes, fruit, cereals, toast, cold meats, croissants etc. Even the coffee was OK. We were a little less impressed with the evening buffet, however. This had more of a 'bunfight' vibe to it. That said, there was a large variety of food (pizza, lasagne, chicken pieces, burgers, fish, lamb, veg, chips, salad and a whole host of starters and desserts). Drinks are extra, though – although there was a water fountain. We ordered drinks (3.50 for a Coke, I think) and paid for them on the way out. One good thing in the buffets is that there are waiters everywhere, and they will whip away a finished plate as soon as you cast it aside. So no horrible piles of half-finished plates :) We really couldn't fault the hotel at all. We had a nice drink (including some very good cocktails) in the lobby bar (great pool table, too), and the whole place had a friendly vibe and lots of great wild west theming. One complaint? Yes – there was a terrible stink coming from the drains near our hotel block, but luckily you could get through it in about 15 seconds. THE PARK I'll be brief here, but there's a good selection of rides that you're bound to have read about, and some pretty good theming for the different worlds. When we were there in mid August you could even get on the big rides in under 40 mins if you chose your timing well (there are latest timings info signs all over the park – although these are not always accurate). Some of the big rides have 'single rider' queues which can save a huge amount of time if you're prepared to ride separately – but these queues are not always easy to spot! The late-night show at 11.15pm is well worth seeing. It's very different and very unlike anything you'd see at Disney, but we all thought it was a good spectacle. In summary, we thought it was a large, impressive park, with some good rides. The few shows we saw were OK (a Polynesian fire thing and the stung show), and when discussing the experience afterwards we all agreed that PortAventura definitely wasn't as good as Disney in Florida (no surprises there), but that it WAS as good as EuropaPark in Germany. One thing that holds PortAventura back a little, especially if you have little ones, is its lack of licensing deals. They have acquired the rights to Woody Woodpecker, Sesame Street and Shrek (who does a meet and greet). Not exactly a match for Marvel and Pixar! Some things that could be better: * The food: we had 2 x mid-priced sit-down meals in the park which came within seconds of ordering, the food (we're pretty sure) having been microwaved, rather than freshly prepared. So what should have been a nice, leisurely sit-down meal for four costing well over 100 euros lasted about 40 mins. The staff were friendly however – although don't expect everyone to speak English, as that certainly is not the case. * The app: it really is pretty awful and often crashes. * Signposting: this isn't great, and it can be hard to work out where you are, especially when printed maps are not freely given out. After dark, it can be very tricky working out which way to go. That's it! A success for us, and we were particularly impressed with the hotel.

I don't usually write reviews but after reading lots of negative reviews before we set off I wanted to put people's minds at rest. I travelled with my husband and 14 year old son. We loved the hotel. We arrived just before lunch time. Check in was easy and our room was ready. Our room was spacious and bright, and spotlessly clean. All of the staff we encountered (apart from one lady in the gift shop) went out of their way to be polite and helpful. Breakfast was brilliant, so much choice, but just be aware when booking a slot that you need to arrive at the start of your slot, not between the times given as this caught us out on the first day. There were always plenty of sunbeds by the pool. The one negative was probably the rules at the pool... no glasses allowed in the pool which was difficult for me as I can't see without them. The hotel has its own entrance directly into the park which made life much easier and meant you could easily pop back to the hotel. The park is VERY busy at the moment... we found the best time for rides was when the park first opened or later at night. All in all, a great stay so don't be put off by negative reviews.

Jet 2 Holiday with grandchildren July/Aug 2022. Wasted first day waiting for room to be ready- reception staff unhelpful, waited 4 hours plus- no information from rep. Ridiculous policy of no fun in the pool, whistle-happy lifeguards made sure of that. No t-shirts or clothing in the pool- resulted in sunburn on our backs/shoulders despite factor 50 suncream! No glasses allowed. No toys or fun pool "stuff". Lack of communication throughout resulted in us wasting hours of holiday trying to find things out for ourselves. Room clean and bed comfy. Clean towels every day. Food okay- restaurant staff work tirelessly to ensure high standards of service. On arrival you will be told that everything must be booked via the APP but it doesn't work on UK 'phones! My tips- on arrival if room not ready, ask to have luggage stored so that you can go straight into park; your room card is your entry to the park. Water Park tickets need to be purchased in the hotel prior to setting off- if you are with Jet 2, you get 30% discount off ticket price BUT you MUST purchase at guest services or hotel before you go. There is an access gate from the complex to Salou- avoids going all the way through the park - but gate requires access code- staff at hotel will tell you that this is not any quicker but it is! No one told us we needed a code but we got this from a car park attendant in the area. There are a multitude of places to eat but if you choose to eat outwith your hotel, you MUST obtain vouchers from hotel reception prior to going- no one told us this, resulted in my husband having to run back to the hotel after a 3 course meal, to obtain said vouchers, before we were allowed to leave the restaurant. The concept of the park etc is fabulous and there is tons to keep everyone entertained throughout but holiday spoiled by lack of communication and time wasted on trying to find things out for ourselves. A simple guide/handout from reception on arrival, would have been helpful and enabled us to spend more time actually on holiday- all we got from reception was a rough map of the hotel are, IN FRENCH!
