It is a little way out of the main towns but a taxi to Fuengirola or Benalmadena is approx 12€. You can take the train but it is about a mile to the nearest train station. The trains are brilliant and run frequently. I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again and definitely will.
The penthouse in Casamaia apartments is one of my absolute favourites though. Private big heated jacuzzi, big balcony with sun exposure for the entire day (morning, midday, evening, all sunny), maximum privacy with no neighbours looking over the walls.
The room itself quite big with a great functioning mini kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. All our clothes were clean when leaving. The bathroom is big with both a shower and a bathtub. The bed mattress was very firm, but my experience of Spain is that beds are firm everywhere.
The staff were super friendly. The cleaning lady always helpful and nice. Our contact Kristina was very kind and helpful also. We wanted to change rooms upon arrival and she fixed it immediately. Also we were able to get a very late check out on the day of departure without any extra charge.
The apartment is within a gated complex containing 3 other hotels. As a guest you are free to visit all the hotels and enjoy their pools. The security at the gate feels very good. The location is very nice. 30 minutes from Malaga and Marbella. We rented a car and enjoyed trips down the coast and up the mountain. Parking is free and right outside the apartment. There are good supermarkets around where you can enjoy local vegetables and food.
We enjoyed our stay so much that as soon as we got back home, we booked a new stay 3 weeks later. Usually we do not like to return to a place we already visited but the stay was so great and relaxing so we felt we needed to extend it.

It was i nice spa on the hotel that we used sevral times big balcony with hot tubs chairs table and sunbeds.
But all in all I have to say staff very good and sevice minded /cleaning /lobbye/spa/tecnician and last but not least Cristina that meet us at arrival on the hotel and contacted us the hole time of our stay to see if everything was ok and if she could do somthing for us, and they made the stay worth it and as we have travel a lot I think this is one of the best hotel staff that i have meet.
I think the only thing i can coplane of is that all the pools in the area exept from in the spa was very cold and not comfy at all to go in to but then again we had hot tube on the balcony that we used all the time.
I can higly recoment this CasaMaia apartmens.
In truth I would not recommend these apartments and would not return here. We have stayed in better 3 star accommodation. These apartments have put me totally off self catering accommodation. BOOK ELSEWHERE
The hotel itself is a genuine "boutique" hotel. Glass elevators, stunning original interior design features and the well furnished suites with outdoor jacuzzis that are just marvellous. The spa is wonderful and is one of the best that we've ever been to.
As is usual with Spanish hotels though, it's the staff that let the hotel down. Culture differences aside, nothing was too little trouble for them. Blank stares to any request with that silly little shrug they love to do with outstretched hands accompanied with the contemptuous "not possible" phrase that most Spanish staff chant regularly almost like a Buddhist mantra! There is no porterage whatsoever. They have a neat little row of airport style trolleys and the reception staff bunched together in gossip sized groups smirk at you as you're struggling to balance your bulky suitcases onto and push by them to get to the elevators.
Most savvy business travellers already know that the very best way to secure the best possible deal AND good service when you get there is to find the very best deal and then ring the hotel and explain how you've found the suite £45 a night cheaper on this site or that site and can they match the rate? Every single major global chain in the World does and they usually publish a bold guarantee like "we guarantee you the best rate if you book with us or we'll give you......".
By making the booking directly with any hotel, you'll generally receive much better service and most importantly the best chance of an upgrade or extra amenities. Say there are two couples arriving simultaneously, who do think the hotel is going to upgrade to the last available suite? A couple arriving with a direct booking that the hotel receives 100% of the revenue from or one holding a voucher from one of these amazing super duper late deals that the hotel has sold it's unsold rooms to for just 20 or 25p in the £?
When you arrive at any hotel with one of these vouchers you WILL BE TREATED LIKE A LEPER! Aggregators (online bucket shops) are now an essential part of the hotel industry and whereas nearly every hotel uses them, every single hotel absolutely hates them because cut heavily into their increasingly strecthed margins).
Apart from of course the business geniuses at Hoteles Holiday World (owned by Grupo Peñarroya), the operator of the Hotel Hydros. We found a suite on Hotel Hydros on a well known online deals site for 110 Euros a night and that compared favourably with the hotel's "rack rate" of 180 Euros a night. I rang the hotel's reservation's department and explained that we wanted to stay at the hotel but had seen the same suite on the aggregator's site for just 110 Euros and please could they match it as we'd prefer the revenue to go all to the hotel. The famous phrase "not possible! (incidentally, officially the most commonly used English phrase/word in Spain besides "manana") was then yet again uttered. I then asked to speak to the reservations manager and explained how I'd rather give 110 Euros to the hotel rather than the 25 or 30 Euros they'd receive from the aggregtor if we went through them. I was firmly told that "It is not our policy to discount our rates at all and if you want a cheaper rate then you are welcome to book it through so and so" Let's face it, in this sunny part of the World, businessmen in general are not generally world renowned for their business acumen to say the very least, but this was the most incredible thing I've ever heard in 30 years in business!
99% of the guests were English yet no English breakfast was available (even at a price). It was a very basic continental breakfast with very Spanish style spicy meats and poor quality orange juice (obviously from concentrate) and we noticed that most guests who walked into the breakfast room took one look at the sad fare on offer and walked straight out again saying "let's go into town and get a proper breakfast". On asking the waiter if I could pay to have scrambled eggs made specially for me he looked faintly confident and said that he would try to arrange it. When he didn't come back after ten minutes I was feeling quite optimistic as he'd obviously succeeded and my beloved eggs were on their way. Pedro however returned emptyy handed after 30 full minutes and very apologetically explained that the chef couldn't find any eggs. So in this supposed 5 star hotel there was not one single egg? In the entire hotel? It's common knowledge of course that any stars can be taken with a pinch of salt in Spain as there is no central recognised authority like the AA or the RAC in the UK so that virtually every hotel in Spain is a five star hotel as they simply erect five stars next to their main sign.
The Spa was absolutely gorgeous, one of the very best that I have ever been in and the relaxation / chill room was the star attraction, closely followed by the aromatic steam room and saunas, plunge pools, hot and cold and a magnificent heated pool overlooking the Med with large stainless steel water fountains gushing out mini waterfalls.
Put a crew of polite attentive staff in and a savvy marketing manager who does deals and the around 10% occupancy that the hotel enjoyed the night we were there would shoot up to at least 80%.
There are hotels in the area that will provide ten times the level of service at half the price. If you don't mind overpaying and want to spend a romantic night with your loved one locked in the suite and using the jacuzzi, don't need room service or breakfast the next morning and enjoy wrestling with your own luggage than this is surely the hotel for you! If however you want any sort of a deal and any sort of service then avoid this hotel like the plague! DO NOT COME HERE! Far better to be found elsewhere.
Arriving at the hotel over midnight, our first impression about the service and courtesy of the night staff has been very good. They offered us drinks and, despite very late, made our registration smooth and pleasant.
We stay in one of the exclusive room at the fourth floor (Suite 44), which is a very nice one facing the see and having a large terrace with a big jacuzzi, sun-beds and wonderful view from sunrise to sunset. The room is well furnished, with an expersso machine and a mini bar. The bathroom was very clean, with bathtub, shower (rain fall type), two basin and toilet, all in modern style with a touch of "exclusive." We used only few times room service but every time we called them they diligently delivered to the room, with smile and courtesy.
The bedroom has two large individual bed merged, as main-bed, in twin-bed and a sofa with underneath mattress, which our son enjoyed for its comfort. The room was quiet and the double-glass windows reduced the surrounding noise to a very decent level and we haven't been disturbed at all by the local train circulating behind the hotel, nor by the coast-road close to the see. In short, we slept very well and every morning enjoyed amazing sunrise from our terrace (early bird privilege but worse it).
The breakfast is continental style but it is possible to order anything you may like. Hard to find words to qualify the bakeries that were so good and delicious, we cannot resist to stop eating them. Coffee, tea and warm drinks are served to table, cold drinks part of the self service at buffet. Breakfast is served from 8am to 11am, giving time enough for late sleeper to well start the day. Breakfast is served in the Restaurant (or in bedrooms on order). Something to notice is that; the restaurant is facing the sea and wherever you seat, you can enjoy a the wonderful scenery.
Lunch is served from 13:00 to 15:30 and "A la Carte." The offering is a good mix of local and international, with a very good quality. The Chef is doing a great job accommodating fishes and meat in a very interesting way and during our week appreciated the offering. Maybe one note about kids menu which might need to be more extended (note about the Hydros hamburger, which is probably something Maxim Paris should consider to add to their card but a bit too sophisticated for kids (but no for Daddy (-:). Diner is served from 19:30 to 22:30 and if you are lucky to be there by full Moon, a real enchantment to dine with the Moon reflecting on the sea.
The hotel also features a Spa facing the sea. The spa is very well equipped and the amiability and professionalism of the lady managing the place making your time there a dream. We enjoyed the possibilities offered at the Spa and to enjoy relaxing in the bubble pool while watching, far on the horizon, huge boats and cargo cruising across the Mediterranean sea. As for the diner, if you are there by a night of full Moon, don't miss the special night at Hydros Spa relaxing in the pools while enjoying the Moon.
Beside the hotel is a large pool, which unfortunately is naturally heated by sun, which in March resulted in cold water. Maybe adding solar panels could make it a bit warmer in low season but I'm sure, in late May to September, bathing in this pool should be very pleasant. Especially when, after bathing, enjoying sun-beds facing the sea, and taking refreshments at the pool bar.
The hotel is located in a large complex of four hotels but isolated from them to guarantee quietness and privacy. In the complex is a water-park, which is served by a daily shuttle rotating about every 10 minutes. If you prefer open sea, from the stop at main entrance and security gate, it is only few minutes to walk down to the beach, which is almost 10KM long.
Benefiting from the NAZAR All inclusive package, we were able to eat at many other restaurants and watched shows. We also visited the Bioparc at Fuengirola (AMAZING! Don't miss it), the Crocodile Parc at Torremolinos and spend a day in Gibraltar, enjoying British atmosphere and the Monkeys.
During all of our stay we appreciated the amiability and courtesy of the personal and the fact, the hotel manager Pedro Herves always available and ready to help. Despite we have been to many upper-class hotel, that is the first time we have received such attention from the hotel manager and from the all staff. To me it is a very good sign that Quality and Customers matter for them, which resulted in wonderful vacations. The only low-tone was about the Internet access, which in our room was very random and poor quality but something the manager guaranteed us that will be fixed.
In short, great place to stay, nice people and wonderful vacations!
We were A/I at this hotel, but it is not what you would expect, meals are cooked to order via table service, no buffet in sight, which suited us perfectly. As the hotel is part of a complex, if you wanted to go to the other hotels you could, and the buffets in those hotels were excellent and delivered more what you would expect from A/I.
Whilst there is no entertainment in the Hydros the other hotels in the complex had nightly entertainment which was excellent on some nights. We saw a magic show and a hypnosis act, both were excellent. My husband likes to take part in the day time entertainment and enjoyed Archery and riffle shooting, again this was not in the Hydros, which was great because I hate that sort of activity, I stayed and enjoyed the pool area away from people.
The staff could not do any more for you but did not pester you, so if you want something ask. The pool and area was the best we have experienced and the beanbag beds are so comfortable that staying awake was difficult. The pool was spotlessly clean and whilst not heated it was still lovely once you were in. I understand that the weather was still unusually hot for October, so the pool was still very usable, the hotel closes in early November until March so the pool temperature would not be a problem.
Whilst the beds were better than usual they are still a little firm, but with two large beds you could spread out. Both me and my husband prefer really soft beds so any bed feels firm to us, so don't let that put you off.
Perfect if you and partner want to spend some quality time together in a very tranquil romantic setting. Also perfect if one of you likes peace and the other likes entertaining, as the other more conventional hotels are near by so it suits all tastes.
We can't wait to go back, I felt thoroughly spoiled and it was just how I had hoped it would be, with no disappointments. The private hot tub was a perfect temperature, sometimes private hot tubs do not allow you to heat them up if its a bit chilly, these were perfect and spotlessly clean.
Probably not a hotel for children as there would not be much for them to do, though there were a couple of children there who seemed perfectly happy. The views are spectacular of the coast and we thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and balcony which took full advantage of them. If you wanted there are plenty of trips to take up, and there are some huge local markets.
Best tip, the staff will leave you alone, so what ever you want ask, they could not be more helpful but they don't bombard you with advice, some of the reviews felt the staff were not friendly, we found them to be quite the opposite. It is unusual to go to a hotel where you are left to relax and not be approached all the time, I liked this and when I wanted anything it was attended to efficiently and cheerfully.
Well done this hotel and staff, we loved it.
