This hotel is easy to find, driving through two lovely towns, and has parking right in front of the building. There is a little stable behind the the hotel with horses that patiently posed so I could take photos of them. When we arrived, there was nobody at the front desk so we were a little unsure but wandered until...

We were touring the Black Forest and originally we wanted to stay at Freiburg but because we could not get any rooms, we decided to stay here instead. As it turns out, this place was so charming and we spent so much time there that we ended up not going to Freiburg. The hotel is very pretty, has comfortable beds,...

I recommend staying at this hotel if you have business in Freiburg or if you want a nice weekend get away. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and nice! The rooms are clean, the shower is excellent and the double pane windows keep out the noise from the road which is directly in front of the hotel. I have stayed...

The inn was built in 1520. It is on the main road but our room was on the back and had thick windows so no problem. The room was simple but fairly spacious, with no elevator but they helped with the luggage. Good shower. The restaurant was closed that night but the one across the street, the Herchen, was wonderful....

I've stayed at the Goldener Engel on and off since 1989, initially using the hotel when taking business trips to Freiburg-im-Breisgau. The hotel is a real gem, clean, well appointed with an excellent restaurant serving the best of local specialities and the best of local wines. The burgunders from the Kaiserstuhl are exceptional. In autumn they serve wonderful venison with...

Our room had a beautiful view to the church and the vineyards. Booking a room means free public transport in the region.

Just returned from our 2nd stay at the Goldener Engel. The place is very nice, the small town very charming, the staff very helpful and polite, the restaurant is excellent (we had diner/breakfast) and the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated/renovated. On top of everything, it's not expensive and is at an easy access from the autobahn.

Stayed at this hotel for a family get-together. Very nice old building in the traditional Black Forest style, everything very well kept and (of course, this is Germany) spotless. The dining rooms and other public areas are traditional in style, and the bedrooms are modern and I think recently refurbished. The staff were pleasant, the breakfast was fine, so what...

During the past summer, my wife and I were visiting Germany, and one of our destinations was Freiburg, a city full of charm and history. We have been to the city before, but only on passing visits. We decided to spend several days there and rather than staying in the city we decided almost arbitrarily that Glottertal would be a...

Stayed in the Zum Engel as part of our Black Forest leg of the two week european tour. And I must say that if you wish to experience a side of Germany that is often missed this Gasthaus has it all. Very traditional look from the outside with all the modern elements that you'd come to expect on the inside....
