The hotel was generally good with clean comfortable rooms, friendly reception staff and interesting architecture!
I think there is room for improvement in a few areas.
1- The very expensive hotel bar does not sell beer of any kind; only spirits/cocktails and wine. It would be nice to have been able to have a refreshing beer at the end of a days skiing. We instead went to a local bar that sold beer.
2-The warm food offerings at breakfast was quite poor. The scrambled eggs were very sloppy with a crust on top, the Rosti/hash brown were soggy and the bacon was not warm. The cold breakfast offering was however, good. There was no staff present at breakfast to check you in, it felt like you could walk straight off the street and go to breakfast without anyone checking you were a hotel resident. They appeared short of staff.
3-The spa staff were quite rude. They were not present to great you as you enter the spa or check your reservation in the spa. Others guests came into the spa that told us they had not booked. We were then asked to leave as the spa was fully booked, despite no one else being there. A little frustrating really as we were not made to feel welcome despite having booked.

I stayed here in Jan 2020 for a week’s skiing holiday with my partner and had a wonderful time. We were in contact with the reception staff before arriving and they were exceedingly helpful and patient pointing us in the direction of ski hire, lift passes etc. On arrival we found the staff to be delightful and always smiling, courteous and helpful. We found our room very hot and they did everything they could to make us more comfortable which they succeeded in! The room was wonderful - it was quiet, the bed was comfy, lovely shower, enough storage space, glorious view etc. The hotel has a spa with hamman, saunas and an outdoor jacuzzi which is included in the room rate and was a hi-light of our stay.
We hired our skis from the Ski Shop across the road and kept them in the hotel’s ski room. All easy and convenient. There is a discount for ski hire here if you’re staying at the hotel.

The only disappointment for us was the restaurants which I have reviewed separately.

Just returned from a special Birthday ski weekend with 9 pals at Hotel Des Dromonts nd so glad I booked us the hotel.

From the moment we checked in to the we left the staff were so accommodating.

The 1970s style lobby and reception feel was such a chilled place to hang out after skiing .

The modern spa and outdoor jacuzzi were a great place to recuperate with your friends.

The food at both restaurants catered for all our various dietary requirements and was of a high standard. With their being 10 of us it made so much sense to book half-board as it meant we didn't have to book restaurants in the village and represented sich good value.

The rooms were high standard with a walk in shower and free standing bath in middle of room, nice touch but with our set up didn't really get used😂

Having a ski hire shop next door and offering a hotel discount was a no brainer.

The whole town of Avoriaz is ski in ski out so whilst technically the hotel is, and you are on a slope for ski out;you do need to walk a little with your skis to ski in at the end of the day but all the fun of the experience.

No real need for us to leave the hotel but if you want to there's a pool/bowling bar opposite that closes at 2am or its a short walk in to town.

Oh and the alpine breakfasts are great too with a wide choice of hot and cold foods.

I will definitely will be back with friends and family.

Reception via Lou very responsive and attentive possibility of ordering a carriage if necessary for luggage storage young man with very pleasant welcome also adjusts.
Adjustment for the meal on the 31st of a less copious menu
But unfriendly room staff, too familiar... dry.. obsequious...
As for the spa: young, unqualified staff not very talkative, Finnish Kota hot tub, the decor could be better, an illuminated space outside would have been nice for the season, ambient lounge music
Inside, appreciable fireplace extinguished on the second day, wood restocking absent..
Passing through the snow with slippers that are too big is also a hassle ++ via a path that is not clear from the start
The hanging egg room is nice to find linens that are more ready to dry.
But six people at the same time in the kota.... armored in turns... to be regulated..
Spa inaccessible on the second day unacceptable at the price of 600e per night....

I have always wanted to stay at the iconic Dromonts since my first visit to Avoriaz in the 1980s. I wasn’t disappointed. The hotel is quirky with lots of character. Plenty of cosy nooks and crannies to hide away in, 1960s decor and furniture, large bedrooms (one with a bath in the room), beautiful views of the mountains, great location (right opposite Avoriaz Ski Shop for equipment hire), an amazing spa (outside hot tub, gym, sauna etc) and staff eager to please. We were half board and had the choice of the two restaurants each night. The “gastronomique” upstairs and the downstairs “festival” with more hearty fare. A lot of meat and cheese, but you are in the Savoyarde. Some salads/lighter choices wouldnt go amiss. Breakfast is excellent. More serving staff, more choice at dinner and more consistent boot warmers would earn it a fifth star. That said, I thoroughly recommend it.

Sadly not at all what we expected.
Positives:
Nice staff at the bar and restaurant, good and cosy areas for socialising.
Negatives:
Poor quality of breakfast, same small choice was served all week, evening menu was the same all week and one night only heavy cheese choices were left in the Festival restaurant (moules frites, burger and fish & chips were not available), as we had half board we had to chose the same dish several evenings, making up the room was limited to making the bed and toilet paper, as we had dogs with us the floors should really have been vacuumed a couple of times, but instead there was a layer of hair all over the floor by middle of the week.

I cannot recommend this hotel to people staying for more than a weekend.

We turned up on the Saturday evening with two small children to be told that there would be no half board as the kitchen staff had all walked out and left.
The hotel had done absolutely nothing to sort out anywhere else to eat, it was up to us to sort it and pay for it.
Staff were generally unhelpful and said they would refund €27 per person per day. You try finding a 3 course meal for that in Avoriaz!
Whole place looks tired and pretty much like it’s had it’s day. The staff were broken and bar was empty. People were bringing their own wine back to the hotel and drinking in the bar!
We’ve always stayed in L’Amara, and will be returning back there next time.
Our room was very noisy being opposite the night club.
This hotel was very expensive and a complete shambles. A definite never to return hotel. An expensive lesson learned.

We booked 4 nights in All inclusive through the private travel platform. For this hotel which advertises 4 stars, the entire staff is mainly made up of young seasonal workers without ANY training in catering! The advertised All-inclusive formula is a pure deception: Buffet composed only of FROZEN MEALS worthy of a Flunch restaurant! The director himself confirmed to us that all the dishes were frozen! The Sowell chain website to which this establishment is attached announces an All-inclusive formula offering drinks throughout the day, except CERTAIN drinks are only free from 4 p.m. In addition, the site also advertises wine included with meals, but this is incorrect information. The hotel rooms are located opposite a bar and bowling alley where very, very noisy young people are outside until more than 3 a.m.! We asked to meet the very friendly Director with whom we discussed all these inconveniences. The Director himself, Mr. Norbert Noquel, agrees with all of our remarks. Even though he says he is sorry, this gentleman clearly told us that he had no power to act on all these inconveniences. He did not offer any commercial gesture to compensate us for this unpleasant stay in this 4-star hotel. His only suggestion was to write an email to the head of the group's quality department. We will take legal action with the CCI as well as the professional branch in order to report this deception and benefit from a refund of the entire stay with photos of the buffet as well as videos of the noise pollution in support. I travel a lot and this is the first time I have had this type of experience with so little consideration. This establishment must demonstrate more professionalism to preserve its 4 stars and thus offer its customers a service that meets the standard displayed! Hoping that our steps will be useful to future customers who venture into a reservation at this hotel whose overall services are more than disastrous!

We are currently staying for 2 nights at the Pension des Dromonts. We are more than pleasantly surprised at the Inn's Value for Money and Services. Do not trust their website: the rooms are more beautiful in real! The decoration is very original with its spirit and arch 60's that fits perfectly in Avoriaz. The team is lovely both at the reception (the young Mexican woman and the young man) and at the bar and restaurant. Pension is located in a quiet area of Avoriaz, while trying close to everything (2/3 min. walk) and with bowling in front. We have booked a superior room. We had the 106 which has the advantage of having a balcony. Decor super nice like common areas. Very good bedding. Bathtub in the bedroom + a shower room. Shower gel, quality shampoo. Folliet tea and coffee with a coffee machine. Cookie. Sewing kit. Continental Breakfast in the form of a very complete buffet with fresh and quality products. The bar with its outdoor terrace is fine too. We went to the restaurant "the terrible children" of the Inn: very good, bistronomic cuisine: foie gras burger, truffle egg scramble etc. Not yet tested the spa and fitness room but it looks very nice too. We benefited from a last minute offer at an Award we found hyper aggressive for the quality of services.

A historic address that we were delighted to return to after a week-long stay last summer. The setting is as beautiful as ever and the decoration of the common areas or the rooms will take you back into the history of this establishment which deserves, in this respect, its 4 stars.

On the other hand, the integration of the hotel into the Sowell group which now manages all the catering and accommodation part seems to want to make serious savings... the employees are seasonal workers who do what they can while clearly being understaffed. , are often not qualified and must “get by” by “multi-tasking” to fill in the gaps as best they can…

In the restaurant the products served no longer have anything to do with those we have known and are now those served in the large hotel chains... more of the 3-star type and again... simple raw vegetables, basic and not very tasty cheeses, frozen dishes: there is no real chef on site and this is evident from breakfast to dinner. No hot dish will be served to you at dinner in the “half board” formula contrary to what is announced on the reservation site. At breakfast, it is possible to prepare your box or sandwich to take away but in 7 days of stay all the salads to take away were the same (green salad, carrot, cherry tomatoes and cucumber) and only once did we see food. semolina for the starchy side which is terribly missing. There are 3 cold cuts and always the same. Fortunately there is fresh fruit! As for bread, breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m., we had to wait until after 8 a.m. on two occasions to find some... and in limited numbers since the baguettes arrive 4 by 4... every quarter of an hour... no problem Another choice of bread (no fresh cereal or seed bread, these are pre-cooked or frozen rolls and baguettes which are cooked slowly so as not to make any losses to the establishment).
At the bar, what a disappointment: more than half of the drinks were out of stock half of our stay and it was impossible to be served at certain times due to the absence of a bartender who must compensate for the lack of waitresses upstairs during dinner! The reception will tell you that this is the case and that you have to wait (too bad for the last drink or the hot drink that you want to have quietly after dinner...)
The savings that Sowell wants to make in the summer disappoints those who have experienced the glory days of this establishment... don't expect to come there to eat locally or swim in the outdoor bath... it must cost too much (say that the jacuzzi is closed for economic reasons would have been more honest than telling us that the electrician has had to come for weeks to get it back on track…)
To summarize: what a shame to have made this exceptional place an ordinary place for its services....

There is ample parking available at the entrance to the village. The village itself is fully pedestrianized and access to the Hotel is via horse and sleigh. This cost ten euros and took about 3/4 minutes. I'm not certain of the car park cost as we got a taxi up the mountain. Hope that helps.

Avoriaz is an amazing area for children and caters to families. I would 100% recommend it. As well as skiing, Avoriaz has a water park for families, there’s a bowling alley directly opposite hotel Dromonts, a mini ice rink about a 4 minute walk away, a carousel etc. Most of the restaurants have kids menus too. The great think about Avoriaz is it’s all pedestrianised so you’ll get a snow sleigh for your kids instead of a buggy! The hotel isn’t specifically catered for kids (I don’t think it had a crèche etc) but the location will make a family trip very easy and it’s only a few minutes to the button lift that takes you up to the plateau.
