We stayed in this parador for the second time, and we enjoyed our stay. This parador is located in a great location, in the historic center of Alcala de Henares. The room was large and comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and the staff were friendly.
Excellent experience in general. Rooms comfortable and modern, spa relaxing, food excellent, sitting room cozy, plenty of light. Staff professional.Alcala is interesting to visit specially the guided tour of the inside of the University. The roman ruins at Complutum are promising but much digging needs to be done to unearth further ruins.
From the outside, the parador looks like a very modern university/office building with a shiny ,sleek, huge, cold reception area. As with the grand majority of these state-run paradores (not all thank goodness, and I've stayed in over 20 paradors) the receptonists are not friendly, welcoming or have a smile. They just do their job, robot like. You're allowed to leave your car outside just long enough to get your suitcases out, give the time you'll be having breakfast the following morning (Covid!) and then pay for the underground car park. The receptionist led us to our room through a very long, souless, polished maze of immaculate corridors, but lacking warmth and emotion. (Like the receptionist) One could never imagine that this was once a 17th century monastery, the very essence of « the past » that I always look for in paradores but this one was completely whitewashed, redesigned and aseptised. And there was no information at all about how the hotel was once a historic edifice, with photos, descriptions etc. Our room was very big (very modern of course), with a view of the outside wall with greenery on it (all rooms have this view due to the « carved gardens » above), which I found slightly claustrophobic, a shower that had to be walked through to get into the bath (!), 2 washbasins, shampoo, body gel and body cream in bottles stuck to the wall (hate them), no slippers, bathrobes, nor waste paper bin anywhere ! Separate toilet, walk in wardrobe and safe. To go with the modern decor, near the bed there are loads of switches (to switch off/on/close everything) that take some getting used to. Don't like all this electricity so close to my head. The pool was closed off (don't know why) so couldn't swim. We had a late snack (open till midnight) in the outside area (pretty with arches) and the food was very well presented and very good. Breakfast was standard food, with choice, but nothing fantastic. Have to ask for fried eggs/omelette. Lovely staff. This is the paradore I liked the least. However, it's walking distance to the beautiful town, bars, restaurants etc which is practical. Glad I only had to spend just one night there.…
The place is magnificent, luxurious. Room big and comfortable. Very clean with covid safety measures. I also had chance to have SPA and use swimming pool. Defined a super positive experience. Delicious breakfast. Perfect position.
As you’d expect from a Parador , excellent facilities and wonderful , quiet position. Easy to find from the bypass and motorway. The centre is 500m away and flat walking. Underground parking at €14 per night and no parking around nearby but there is a large car par 500 m to the east. Restaurant in the hotel and breakfast is very good in these Corona times. Swimming pool outside with sun beds. Would stay here again if I visit.
