While it is rumored to have a ghost sightings in room 9, we did not experience "Casper" at all, but we stayed in room 18 down the hall. The room was very nicely done and comfortable. There are no TV or telephones in the room, but the lobby does have a TV.

Marathon has dwindled since its days as a center of ranching and mining, but is coming back as a spot for R&R and a staging area for trips to the Big Bend. The Gage Hotel, built as the home of a local grandee, is a comfortable and rustically imposing period piece, with a good restaurant, bar, and swimming pool, and...

The Gage Hotel in Marathon, TX is like nothing you've been to before. I like to call it my home away from home because I just love it so much and go back any chance I get! I have been there 5+ times and never once have I been disappointed. I love The Gage Hotel so much that I got...

We arrived during an ice storm and the hotel had no power. We checked in thinking it would be restored shortly. Never did. However, it turned out to be no problem. The hotel grilled steaks and we ate by candlelight... full bar. Although it was cold outside, the room had a fireplace. We stayed warm and drank wine. A great...

Gorgeous hotel, all the details, in the desert just outside of Big Bend. Our room has a huge steer over the fireplace, oil paintings with local themes, beautiful bedding. You can't go wrong here. Spa services available, though we didn't avail ourselves. Honeymoon spot, or even hold a small wedding here.

Hotel was in darkness when we arrived due to the ice storm in the area. Staff were very helpful offering extra duvets, the purchased battery lamps for the rooms etc. I had been really looking forward to the restaurant as the menu is awesome but of course the kitchen could not offer the menu. They grilled up some tenderloin and...

My husband and I spent a couple of nights in this very historic hotel. The Gage is most of the town of Marathon, just outside the long road into Big Bend National Park. We stayed in the very old and creaky Shepard house, which was a walk down the road to the main hotel, restaurant and bar. The dinner at...

Our most recent visit to the Gage coincided with a widespread ice-induced power outage. The town itself was dark, as were the facilities at Big Bend. The fireplace in the suite took care of the chill and a candle and flashlight the dark, I leave description of the property to another review - we're repeat visitors and find the Gage...

I have been visiting west Texas and the Gage in particular for years and have enjoyed it very much. I recently stayed in the upgraded rooms in the historic building and was not happy with the changes. The new room decor lacks any style and is reminiscent of a saloon brothel. I understand they wanted to provide private baths to...

You know the old saying, "you get what you pay for?" Well, we paid $242 per night recently and it was not worth it. This was the first time we visited Marathon. First, the walls in the portales rooms are paper thin; we could hear our neighbors and felt the need to whisper the whole time we were there. One...
