The lobby is nice, that’s about where it ends. Two out of three elevators were working, max capacity is 6 people. We waited on the elevators at least 10 minutes every time. The rooms are in need of a major update. We had a “city view,” which was really just looking at the building beside us. The tv was tiny, sitting on top of a dresser. The bed and pillows weren’t very comfortable, definitely expect more from a boutique hotel in downtown Houston. The toilet paper holder was also broken and would fall off the wall every time we attempted to get toilet paper. There are many better options within walking distance, don’t waste your money here.

We stayed at the Magnolia for reunion of retired coworkers. We had a great experience from booking, thank you Tracy Vines Group Sales, through check out. A beautiful historic building with a great location in downtown Houston. The property is within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and bars including Treebeards, for lunch during the week, across the street in a church hall. Minute Maid Park is within walking distance for the Astros. The Metro light rail stop is only 1 block away to go to the Houston Medical Center and NRG Stadium for the Texans or Houston Rodeo. There is also a CVS on Main St a few blocks away. Check in was quick and friendly. Our rooms were nice with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Room was clean, quiet and my bed was comfortable. There is a restaurant and bar on premises but we did not use it. There is a coffee shop just outside the front door. The valet parking staff were friendly and efficient. Would definitely return to the Magnolia again. Our group voted to return to Houston in 2023 and the Magnolia will be our first choice to check for availability.

We chose this hotel because it's considered a "boutique" hotel, and it's close to Buffalo Bayou Park, where my husband likes to go running in the morning while I sleep in. It's a bit of a dump. The lobby area looks trendy and nice, but the rooms are nothing special. Our window was cracked all the way across, and the paint was peeling on the window trim. The bathroom was large and had two sink areas, which was nice, and there was a mini fridge, microwave, and wet bar sink in the room. But that's where the good part ends. The rooftop pool and lounge area was tiny, dirty, and the patio furniture was in bad shape. The hot tub was drained and had yellow tape around it to block it off. The pool is absolutely tiny. You have to walk through the gym to get to the pool and lounge area. The view of downtown was nice, if you could ignore that you were standing on the ugliest rooftop in downtown Houston. All in all, we were disappointed. We much prefer the Hotel Icon, and will stay there again next time.

Dear scrapulous, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay. I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed regarding the pool. We do try to inform guests that the pool area is small by referring to the pool as a plunge pool. I apologize if we were performing some maintenance during your stay and hope you will be able to return in the future to experience the area more fully. Sincerely, Eddie Timmons

Excellent. Gorgeous property, and outstanding staff. I came in frazzled after a day of flying and wanted to get dinner and a drink at the magnolia Lounge before it closed. So I asked to leave my bags by the desk to save time. A few minutes later the young lady at front desk, Quinn, came to the bar to tell me she was taking my bags up to my room so I didn’t have to go back down to get them. In all my years of travel, I haven’t had anyone do something so thoughtful. Truly, I was shocked and deeply grateful. It’s a crazy world out here at the moment, and many of us have lost our sense of humanity. This act of kindness, along with the lovely Art Deco design of the hotel, and my cushy suite, was a treat. Magnolia Houston has a new dedicated guest.

What a dump. Public areas were disgusting. I pointed out to three different managers that the restrooms were vile and over a two day period of time nothing was done. The shower curtain on our suite had some type of brown/rust colored bodily fluid smeared all over it and on the wall. I took three calls to managers and my raising my voice to get anything done. Further, Westin doesn’t seem to care because there is no one to speak with. The only people in that entire building that had a concept of customer service were the bar tender and the maintenance man. He was awesome and even left a note apologizing for our troubles. He should be the manager as the others could learn from him. If you have a choice, don’t waste your money on the Magnolia in Houston. I thought it would be a fun departure from bigger flags but I was totally wrong.
