Was so surprised after reading so many good reports but won't go back . The door lock was worn out and we were not even locked in , found that out the next morning . We were first surprised to see a room that hadn't been cleaned but shortly after we got there they brought a crew of 6 people... More

Becky and Paul appear to be normal people trying to make a living. They were very helpful. I ended up getting sick, and they refunded the last day without any question. It is also less than a mile from the ocean. It is a wonderful find. My wife and I will visit again.

High Island is unique in that it attracts hordes of birders for a few weeks in April and May (and a less good but maybe more pronged period in autumn), but also attracts the fishing fraternity and beach lovers in the rest of the year. The Gulfway is perfectly sited soon after you come off the bridge to the island and... It's a roadside motel, so don't expect too much in the way of amenities or style. But it's within walking distance of Boy Scout Woods and quite close to all the other birding venues. The included breakfast was adequate, and the dinners were fine and reasonable (no liquor license, but you can bring your own.). The staff was very friendly

We stayed one night as part of a high-end birding tour that had us in other three star motels that were clean, wired, flat-screen TVs, etc. Compared to them, this was the pits. We stayed in the outback area, not the motel part. The first thing to hit us was the odor. Many couldn't place it, but it seemed like... More

This was my first time to High Island and I went with my mom and aunt to bird during the height of spring migration. We had a blast and loved staying at the Gulfway Motel. The location was the main benefit of this place. It was only blocks from all the major birding sanctuaries in town. The owner, Becky and... More

My sisters and I just returned from a 4 night stay at the Gulfway Motel. As we went to High Island to go birding, we are really glad we chose the Gulfway for our stay. The Gulfway is an older style motel, but we all felt the pluses far outweighed the minuses. Firstly, no place could have a friendlier staff.... More
