We checked on Monday for a much needed vacation and checked out on Wednesday, 2 days early, to move to a new hotel. When we arrived the front desk couldn’t find our reservation and were very rude. They finally located it after we showed them our loyalty status tier and were friendlier. We got to our room, which was a handicap accessible room, to find our bathroom flooded. Ninety minutes later, and many power tools, maintenance fixed the plumbing issue. I wish they could have fixed the smell. During that wait we noticed that our “comfy chair” in the room must have been used at a “red light district” hotel in its previous life. We were not getting anywhere near that thing. Now the real fun begins. We booked our hotel using points because we had plenty. We opted to pay cash for one night and points for three. It’s something we’ve done many times with no issues. When we checked in they put a $100 hold on our card, no biggie. Overnight they put an $80 hold on our card. We spoke with the front desk who told us that was to cover incidentals. I’m still not clear what those could have possibly been. We left the following morning to go do vacation stuff and came back in the evening to find the sewer smell had gotten worse. Still no other rooms available so we just dealt with it. We soon learned most of our plugs didn’t work and the lamps made an weird humming noise. Meh, who needs lights anyway? So back to sleep we went. Woke up on Wednesday morning to find they had charged our account another $100 dollars. If you’re keeping track, that’s $280 so far. We went back down to the desk where they told us they would hold the daily rate on our card in case our points didn’t go through. Keep in mind, we were using Marriott branded points from their loyalty program. They got really rude. We got our stuff and checked out but not before they decided that since they had already held those funds, they would apply the cash rate instead of points. We fought their poor choice but alas, they would not honor the points and were rude. We’ve stayed at Marriotts all over the country and never dealt with the rude customer service we encountered here. Spend the extra money and stay someplace else.…
This is a great hotel. It’s right on the end of the sea wall so it’s quieter than most hotels. It’s nicely appointed. Very clean. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. They are doing a great job during covid restrictions. Before the grab n go they had a wonderful hot breakfast. The food literally looked like the pics when it came out. But they are doing their best now too. Coffee is Starbucks so that’s a big plus! Our room had a balcony with an ocean view. The whole room allowed access to see the beach. Heaven for us.
This Marriott did not recognize the company discount that Marriott employees receive for their immediate family members one I arrived. After working for Marriott Hotels for most of my 17 year career in the industry and then being laid off due to Covid-19, I still had a brother working in the industry. He provided me with the authorization form needed to check in and receive the discount. I booked the discounted room online and showed up for my stay. once I handed the form marked "brother or sister of associate" I was told they would not honor it. in the 17 years I have worked in this industry, no one I know has been denied what Marriott has created for their associates to extend to an immediate family member such as brother or sister of the associate. I checked in again about a month later and a different associate did not question my form. The first time I was denied, the GM was called to verify my argument which I showed to the agent on my phone that is was allowed and that GM allowed the authorization but proceeded to say that was not allowed by Marriott. I challenge you again to call Marriott Headquarters and tell them they got it wrong since this property knows the rules. …
I had a very different expectation as all Marriotts are known for comfortable beds. I could feel springs and bed creaked every time my husband or I moved. We had reserved 3 nights but decided to switch hotels immediately.
1. It is in a good location 2. Room was basic, clean and nothing to be excited about 3. Did see staff wear masks 4. A plus they don't charge for self parking 5. The big disappointment came during breakfast. I would have appreciated bottled water, a box of cookies or something to hand when we arrived and when we came down to have breakfast. I was under impression it was included and in the COVID world, they would hand you a box to eat from. But no- nothing. Everything is additional costs. So we went to Starbucks 7 minutes down the road.
