During my birthday, Houston was in cold darkness during a crazy snowstorm where we lost power for 40 hours. My husband arranged for us to go to our favorite Galvez Hotel. We didnt consider that there would be food shortages and water issues. Many businesses were not open and restaurants had very limited menus. When we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome from the Valet staff. We enjoyed our evening in our warm comfy room. Beautiful view of the water. We decided to have dinner in the hotel restaurant. There we met Eddie Garcia who was the absolute cherry on the top of my memorable birthday. He was so gracious and funny, he helped make my celebration complete. My hamburger was perfect and I am pretty picky. We slept well and enjoyed some time visiting with the fabulous concierge Melissa. We ALWAYS love visiting the Galvez. Thanks to Melissa and Eddie for saving my birthday.

Amazing customer service - professional and friendly. The rooms are lovely, newly renovated, quiet and clean. It is also a beautiful hotel both outside and in, with a lovely lobby, bar, etc. Highly recommended if you are staying in Galveston!

Took both my daughter's and granddaughter on a 4 day vacation. Lobby was beautiful! Super clean! However, our room wasn't. Black mold in the bathroom, and "short and curlys" in the tub. They did move us to another room (upgrade). This bathroom had the same issues. Because I had no more energy to complain, I disinfected the bathroom myself. I should also add, the sheets had stains. Food was ok, not spectacular. Will more than likely not go back. Too bad, since it is a beautiful place.

Writing reviews is NOT a normalcy for me. In fact, this is my first review. I had to take the time to acknowledge the compassion, empathy, friendliness and professionalism of one particular employee, Jan Vernier ( Guest Services). She truly deserves recognition for demonstrating exemplary customer service. Our stay at Hotel Galvez & Spa ( Jan 17, 2021 ) was completely unplanned. We approached Jan at the front desk as she greeted us in a friendly manner. Within, minutes I felt comfortable in explaining how we had arrived at the hotel on this particular night. I am a female who had a child (niece) with me and had experienced an unpleasant day. We visited the area to enjoy the amenities ( Pleasure Prier) resulting in losing my keys. We searched and re-tracked our steps to no avail ( also checked with businesses & security) My niece actually got stuck on a ride prior to me realizing that I no longer had my keys in my possession. We were on foot, unable to get into my vehicle. We walked to Hotel Galvez & Spa. Had no spare key and was unaware if the dealership would be opened the next day due to the following day being a holiday. ** It was such a blessing to approach Jan. She expressed such great compassion for our dilemma especially since I had a child with me. It was also night time. She offered suggestions ( such as contacting the City of Galveston so that my vehicle would not get towed). We got checked in the room and within 20 mins we discovered a card underneath our door from Guest Services. It was personalized. I knew it was from Jan. The card indicated how sorry the hotel was that we were having such a rough day in hopes that we start the following day, brighter etc...She assured us they would watch out for our keys. Overall, you cannot train compassion. You either have a kind heart or you do not. Jan is an outstanding employee who is definitely an asset to the company. Although, our experience was troublesome prior to meeting Jan, she provided a lasting and fond memory for our stay at this hotel. Much gratitude and blessing to Jan Vernier ( Guest Services)!!!!

Dear Rosalindh983, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at Hotel Galvez & Spa! It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback. I am particularly pleased that you found Jan to be such a comfort during such a stressful day. It really makes the biggest difference when you encounter someone with compassion, you are absolutely right, you cannot train someone to have compassion. I will share your comments with our team, who I am certain will be encouraged by your remarks. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we look forward to serving you in the future.

I stayed at this hotel years ago. It was a very luxurious place. When we checked in yesterday, I found out my sea view room had a “city” view. Ok. I can deal with this. The bathroom, one of the places you want little extra luxuries was TINY. There was a strange sound in one of the walls of our Lilliputian rooms that we became so used to, that when it stopped, the silence was notable. Twice the building shook. So hard the lampshades swung and shook. There was NOTHING such as a guide to attractions, etc. There was NO phone directory, no television directory. I understand COVID is an issue. However, some sort of offer on request should have been offered. We asked about places to eat, places to go and got a lot of nothing. The best thing was the doormen and valet employees. Otherwise, there was no help. Our room DID NOT GET CLEANED. NO NEW TOWELS, NO MADE BED...NOTHING. We had to call down to ask for towels. There were glasses and cups on the floor outside rooms, for more than a day. To sum up, I will never stay here again. We will go back to renting homes.
