We stayed in a beautiful suite in The Bull this Saturday for my husband's 50th birthday. The room was amazing, really luxurious and clean. The bed was very comfy and, although the room was very warm, there was a fan that we used. Hotel itself is lovely, had a meal in the restaurant which was great. Left my earrings in the room and reception rang me as we were in our way home and are posting them out. Would definitely recommend, especially the suites.

This is one of our favourite places and this visit only confirmed that even more. The staff are all so lovely and attentive, the rooms are beautiful, comfortable and clean and the food, well it’s amazing! We did dinner bed and breakfast and both our evening meal and breakfast were outstanding! Thank you so much for a much needed getaway and we will definitely back! Highly recommended!

I was booked to stay in the hotel for a weekend stay. Unfortunately, my wife and I were required to self isolate at short notice on the Friday. I called the hotel to explain that we would be unable to travel and therefore would need to cancel the booking. The hotel informed me that it would not be able to provide a refund of my £66 deposit (25%). This is perfectly within the hotel’s rights but disappointing given the circumstances. I offered to let the hotel keep the deposit and that we could book another date - we have tickets for zipworld and therefore would definitely be visiting the area at some point in the near term. As we are in a world where this sort of thing can happen to anyone, please be aware that this is the hotel’s policy.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at the Townhouse at the end of August. At £150 a night we expected a 5 star experience, but were totally underwhelmed. Apart from problems with the room, which was tired (at the best), you should not expect a breakfast apart from a disgusting brown bag. We knew that there would be room service for the breakfast but totally unprepared for what this entailed. Don't expect bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, tomato, black pudding, preceded by fruit and accompanied by toast, coffee or tea....instead you can have a dry bacon bap served in a brown paper bag. Now if the price had been reduced and/or the government VAT saving passed on then it would mitigate your disappointment. The owner was totally dismissive. The staff rude and ignorant. In fact everything you would expect from a 5 star experience did not exist. Do not stay here. And its not just the breakfast. The owner was unable to fix a buzzing noise in our room, there were no shaving facilities, loose electrics, tired decor...and I could go on. This goes on our list of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in

Response from David Robertson, Owner at The Bull
Responded 8 Sep 2020
This is very good advice. You should most definitely not stay in The Bull if you are anything like 'flocktonfeedback'. The rooms are literally falling to bits, breakfast awful, staff awful and the owner is an incompetent fool. This is indeed Fawlty Towers re-incarnated. On the other hand if you are like the other 20 guests who have stayed in exactly the same room since we re-opened on 27 July you'll be entirely satisfied. The room has been full every night with many people staying three and four nights. Our breakfast arrangements due to Covid are made crystal clear on our website but 'flocktonfeedback' were having none of it demanding a full cooked breakfast in the room. Their room 'Ebony' is located in a £2m annexe to the hotel across a side street. Unhappy with the choice available the guests elected to have the breakfast charge removed from their bill and eat out. They did not pay £150. They didn't have breakfast with us but that did't stop some creative writing to validate their complaint. How on earth do they know its a "dry bacon bap"? Electricians came to investigate the deafening buzz in their room after their first night's stay. They actually thought i was joking when i asked them to investigate the noise. Needless to say the electrics are just fine. The property was re-built from the ground up 10 years ago. 'flocktonfeedback' were trying toget a discount and because i declined i'm being "dismissive". There was nothing wrong with their room. That's not my view but that of 20 other satisfied guests. Prior to their post above they emailed me again looking for a reduction on their bill failing which "we will consider further action". I won't be blackmailed.

Great rooms, good service & good location but food is disappointing. Very main stream “steak and chips” which I expect suits many. For somewhere so close to the coast seafood was very limited. I tried the lobster and it was uninspiring. The salad came with a bland dressing already added, no choice and tasted like it was from a supermarket bottle. There used to be a fine dining restaurant here but no more. Could be so much better.
