Travellers' Choice
Glengarry Castle Hotel is a comfortable country house hotel with a jewel of a setting on the shores of Loch Oich at the heart of the Great Glen in the Highlands of Scotland. Great touring base, stay for a few days and explore the Highlands - 7 miles from Loch Ness, 40 miles south of Inverness, 25 miles north of Fort William and just 50 miles to the Isle of Skye. Set in 60 acres, well away from the road, lots of local walks. Free WiFi in every bedroom and public areas. We serve Scottish beer, whisky and gin to our lounges and have an extensive wine list too. Family run for over 60 years. The building has not been extended and there is no annexe, all bedrooms are in the original house.

Stayed 2 nights while on a tour of Scotland to celebrate my wife's specail birthday. The approach down the drive leads to a view of a typical Scottish Country House (which is how it started life). A very warm welcome and shown to Room 11 with its 4 poster bed. The hotel had placed birthday cards sent by friends and relatives in the room in advance. The room was spacious and comfortable with double aspect windows overlooking the loch and the mountains. The interior decoration is country house style with a faint touch of faded granduer, which adds rather that detracts from the place. Original oak panelling ing in the lobby and reception . As well as the dining room there is a lounge and library (which acts as an overspill dining room). There is no bar but drinks can be ordered at reception for drining in the lounge, terrace or your room. There are delighful walks in the grounds and lochside, inculding the ruins of Invergarry Castle. The food was of a consistantly high standard. We hade loin of venison one night and it was tender and pink to the right degree. The staff were all very efficient and on hand without being intrusive. Would return again.

What a wonderful place to stay; secluded in its own grounds you feel you are at a Country House weekend rather than at a hotel. Food was excellent and not too large portions so enjoyable without being over full. Staff are friendly and helpful, we had Room 19 at the top of the house with wonderful views over the Loch and Grounds. Quite a climb, but well worth it. We hope to stay again if ever we are in the Highlands

I loved this place. Just my cup of tea. And the deluxe room was huge and bathroom! Lovely piping hot water in taps and shower. And every window in room 2 had spectacular views of gardens and loch. Very comfortable bed and a lovely surprise having an electric blanket! Dinner could do with a more varied menu however the food we had was delicious and fresh. Friendly staff all round and very clean rooms. Would definitely stay there again!

We had stayed in this hotel before and returning was like visiting an old friend. You want it to be the same but you want things to be better. We were not disappointed. It still has the same country house feel but it doesn't feel dated. Our superior room was large enough and the easy chairs very comfortable for reading. The bathroom and shower were good but the hot water was just hot enough, filling the bath need no addition of cold water ( do I detect a bit of HSE intrusion?). The staff were, as in previous visits, exceptionally friendly but not over familiar. The restaurant staff were very attentive but never over bearing. We you needed something they just seemed to be there, but they never 'hovered' over you. The food was excellent with lots of little quirks. I like to eat food in hotels that I couldn't cook at home but will give me ideas to try. I've already googled 'cured egg yolk' The Glen Garry Castle is not the cheapest of establishments but our bill overall compares favourably with similar hotels we have stayed in. The hotel is close to the A82 but we couldn't hear any sound of traffic. Although we are only occasional bird watchers we had a fantastic experience of watching swifts out of our bedroom window, swooping towards us ad swerving away at the last moment. We have reminded ourselves that we should stay away as long as we did this time.

Lovely welcome, beautiful house and setting, really lovely food and wine and just a great place to stop overnight or for a few days. Everyone was so friendly and the fact that all the people we met associated with the house, spoke extremely highly of working there, a good testament to the service levels.
