Stayed here overnight en route to Islay ferry. It is a quirky, old style hotel with some character about it so if you are after a flashy, modern hotel experience then Lochgair is not for you. Suited me perfectly. The staff were very friendly and were genuinely interested in what we were doing and where we were going etc. Had dinner in hotel as no restaurants nearby and altho not haute cuisine was perfectly acceptable. If I am passing this way again (which is highly likely) I will have no hesitation in staying here again.

Wasn't sure I wanted to write this tbh, but it is what is. I booked the room online from Inveraray because a crash at lochgair blocked the road to Kintyre both directions. Felt like the only guest. The owner, pleasant chap, told me they had no food and no staff, road blocked meant staff were stuck also. So i couldt have dinner that evening. Or indeed any food, not even toast or a sandwich. He said there was no food for a cooked breakfast but told me later he found 6 eggs. I had eggs and toast for breakfast. I had the feeling he was encouraging me not to have breakfast telling me residents the week before had taken packed lunches as they were workmen. Perhaps he just dint want to get up. Room was clean and quiet, cant fault the environment but it felt to.me no real effort was made to offer me choice of food or indeed in the evening, ANY food.

Quaint and Olde World hotel situated a few miles out of Lochgilphead. Rooms are warm, pleasing and very comfortable beds. Food tasty, excellent bar and friendly staff. Not posh, but ticks many boxes....

I stopped, with my family, at 3.30 on the afternoon of Tuesday 1 October, in the hope of getting a cup of tea. On enquiring I was told by the member of staff who appeared that I would have to wait half an hour as no one was available to make tea until after four pm. needless to say we drove on!
