OMG… thank you for the most amazing overnight stay. The place is stunning and the service was second to none. (In all areas of the hotel). I will deffo be back and I will tell all my friends and family to come along to. If you want good value for money, stunning scenery and a hotel full of character… give this place a visit.
This hotel is the worst I have ever encountered in 40 years of travelling. It’s dirty, is staffed by inexperienced young people and the food is the worst. They don’t accept feedback and never ask if everything is ok. Take my advice and go anywhere else
One of the worst nights I've ever had in a hotel. Room was tiny. As was the bathroom, which was so cramped I had to sit diagonally as the sink was so close to the front of the toilet. Barely room to move in the shower. Room felt dirty as well. The bed was a queen, not a double and you could feel individual springs through the mattress. Sleep was made harder by the fact that the "fire door" (the seal was inadequate and smoke would have easily got through. I imagine this doesn't meet building regs) didn't have soft close springs, meaning that every time someone went through it slammed. This happened a lot as there was a massive wedding party (as a result no room in the lounge or restaurant), and several of them had a massive row between 11pm and 1am. While this was not the hotel's fault, they made no attempt to stop it, despite people shouting at each other through their room door for 2 hours. Complaint the next morning was met with indifference. NEVER STAY HERE.…
Room was small. No wardrobe, or adequate space to put clothes. Bathroom was tiny. "Housekeeping" did not clean the bathroom: towels were not replaced, despite being left on the floor, as requested: one wet towel was lifted from the floor and hung up with another on top of it! Dirty coffee cups were not replaced. Wi-fi was not available. Food was good, although a limited menu; pizza oven not working. Service here was good.
We were initially in room 216 on the top floor. The loo seat was only fixed on one side and very inconvenient. The water pressure at the basin is very low making the basin almost unusable added to that the pop-up plug was not properly fitted and so did not work. Terrible. The shower over bath was pumped so we could get a good shower. The mattress was thin, cheap and we could feel the springs all over it. After two nights we requested another room and were put in 211. This room was fine except for the shower control which was so stiff we had to get the maintenance man to come and adjust it for us but we were otherwise pleased with 211. The wifi did not seem to work so we gave up on that. The restaurant is pretty poor. It has a very limited menu and when it came to the desserts there was only a choice of fudge cake or ice-cream everything else was off or unavailable. The waiting staff were very poor and disinterested. After 2 nights we dined elsewhere. The breakfasts were served fast but rather limited any combination of a full Scottish breakfast otherwise cereals and toast. The coffee was only instant. The restaurant is very untidy and messy but has a cracking view over the loch. Most of the clientele seemed to be workers on the new power lines that Balfour Beatty are installing on Kintyre. We booked late and so we were fortunate to find anywhere to stay but we would not return to the Grey Gull…
We stayed 15 June 2022 at Grey Gull Inn. I was not given a printed receipt for the credit card payment. When My statement arrived, I found that I had been charged double. I contacted the hotel by email and phone to advise them of the double debit. I still have not received the refund - today is the 4th of August. Can management please contact me to confirm that refund will be made?
went with the mrs and the menu is tiny. Not just a bit small but omg tiny. Having said that the starters were cheap, the mains were ok ( macaroni cheese and fish and chips so not brilliant choices !) but as it was good value 3 stars seems fair. This is not somewhere for a treat. Think more fast food, fills a hole, honest pub grub if you are not fussy about what you want as the menu is so limited, Did I say it was limited lol!!!
Had to buy cleaner before we could use the shower. Very dirty. Tried to find alternative accommodation but couldn’t. The bathroom is the dirtiest I have ever seen in a hotel. I’m embarrassed to be Scottish if this is what we offer tourists. Avoid this place, book a B&B instead.
Stayed here as a stopover between destinations. Staff were friendly but hotel itself is a bit tired and needs some TLC; disappointed for the money. Room was big (triple) but had lack of facilities (no storage or shower gel) if staying more than a couple of nights. Ceiling had damp stains and broken wiring in bathroom. Restaurant food was ok.
Dreadful! Ordered a Sunday dinner which took more than 50 minutes to arrive and consisted of two undercooked beef slices, one maybe one and half under cooked roast potato and one sprig of broccoli... Utterly shameful service and quality as whatever that was it was not.a Sunday roast by normal expectations. Dreadful
