We visited here to take a friend back after some 40 years since her visit with her young family, the tears flowed at the stunning building standing splendidly in the Scottish Sunshine, the rooms looked beautiful with the elegant accessories on show. The ground and views were to die for, a proud building indeed.

My daughter and I spend 4 days here in July and can't recommend Mar Lodge enough. The apartment is grand yet very comfortable, the place was absolutely spotlessly clean and every detail has been thought of. We had a fantastic time exploring the estate and surrounding areas and were lucky enough to see lots of wildlife such as red squirrels, a herd of red deer & oyster catchers. Braemar is a lovely village and has everything including groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, gift shops and the castle is small but worth a visit. The only very small suggestion is that we didn't find the maps for walks from the lodge very clear to follow but maybe that was just us! We didn't want to leave and hope to be back someday. Thank you Mar Lodge

I've probably stayed in Mar Lodge 10-15 times over the last 20 years across all of the different apartments; for me it is a home away from home. This time I hired the Bynack for a midweek, Mon- Fri, break. We had 8 adults and 4 children in my group and with the Bynack sleeping up to 17 across 8 bedrooms it was perfect to give people a little more space from each other (or their kids). The Bynack has a massive lounge/dining room with a table and 16 chairs (from memory) with ample space to add more. While combined with the lounge, it doesn't encroach on the dining area so there is plenty of space should some people wish to watch television while others remain chatting over a coffee at the table. Sleeping 17 you might expect there to be fights over the bathrooms in the morning. However, there is an en-suite downstairs for the only downstairs bedroom, as well as a WC next to the kitchen. Upstairs I think it has 4 bathrooms from memory, each with a toilet and shower and/or bath. The rooms are all quite spacious with the exception of the downstairs bedroom which isn't as big as the others but has the benefit of an en suite and being away from the other rooms should anyone in the party want to stay up later and not potentially wake people when stumbling through the upstairs hallway finding their room. The doors in the house are also quite soundproof, so if you have people who want to stay up late watching films or listening to music downstairs, anyone upstairs won't be able to hear you. Cooking for up to 17 the kitchen has an oven with 3 compartments and two dishwashers. The fridge and freezer are also quite spacious and most pots/pans you would think to need are available. There is a snooker room you can hire (which used to be free annoyingly) should you get snowed in or just fancy a game. One of the families in my group brought a kite with them for the kids which was a big hit playing outside. There is private parking round the back of the property and a coded lock for the main entrance as well as you having your own key to your part of the property so everything is quite secure. Some rooms in the lodge are locked and there are many ornaments or pieces of valuable art/furniture, so be careful not to let any kids or dogs run a mock. For those who haven't visited the area before, the Fife Arms has just been refurbished and is good for a spot of lunch. Royal Lochnagar whisky distillery is not far and worth a tour if you have never been round one. For walks, I enjoy the 3.8 mile trek into town when someone else is willing to come get me with a car later, though that is along the road so some may not like that. Other good walks nearby include close to the Linn of Dee (head right from the bridge until to cross the Linn and there's a National Trust car park). Alternatively, head into Braemar and up the road on the right by Taste to another smaller car park by a duck pond for a nice circular walk c.1.5hrs.

The accommodation has changed in 40 years. There was a bar at the back. Never climbed between such cold sheets in 1978! Congratulations to the National Trust of Scotland for fixing the Lodge up after the fire. We are in Braeriach first floor apartment. Well reconstructed, WARM, cosy. Four night stay to walk drink and eat. Staff very helpful and friendly to Geordies!

Absolutely AMAZING weekend stay at Bynack. What an experience. We were there with a group of 15 for 3 nights for a family gathering for a 50th Birthday.. and it was absolutely perfect. Bedrooms are a fantastic size and the lodge is so cosy and inviting. Lovely homely atmosphere with stunning surroundings with great walks for all skill levels. We stayed at the end of October, so going to sleep at night with the sounds of Owls hooting and Stags roaring for the rutting season was so special. We would be back every single weekend if we could! Already thinking of potentially having our future wedding here...... Just a beautiful place. We will remember this incredibly special, beautiful stay as a treasured memory for the rest of our lives. Thank you so much Mar Lodge Team, and I hope we can return to you very soon.
