#1 of 3 hotels in Braemar
Travellers' Choice
This charming Guest House in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park is run by Grant & Maria Mason and sits in a secluded location within the historic village of Braemar in Royal Deeside. Surrounded by mountains the property overlooks the famous Braemar Highland Games Gathering arena and is only yards from the Royal Pavilion. Recently refurbished the property offers a warm and friendly welcome, comfortable accommodation, fresh home cooked Breakfasts and is the ideal base for outdoor activities all year round. We have an outside seating area (weather permitting) with fabulous views over the Highland Games arena. Dogs are also welcome in this area. There is ample parking in our private car park for cars, Mini Buses and motor cycles, and we have drying facilities for wet clothing and lockable storage for bikes. Please note The Moorfield is now Accommodation ONLY. Our Bar & Restaurant has moved to a new site in the center of the village (10 minutes walk) this allows us to offer our guests a truly peaceful relaxed environment to unwind after a long day travelling or walking in the hills. As guests staying with us if you eat or drink in our new Restaurant & Bar called The Cairn Grill we offer a 10% discount on your bill by showing your room key to staff down the road.

This guest house is located in the town of Braemar, just a few minutes walk from the centre and right next door (overlooking) where the famous Highland Games are held. For a video review of our room, head over to you. tube and search for Tim and Matt’s Travel Reviews for this and many other room reviews. The Guesthouse is located at the end of a small lane, clearly signposted, just minutes from the centre of the village. A family run B&B, we were welcomed by the very friendly owners. At the time, full Covid precautions were in use and we had to wait outside for someone to let us is o our first visit (obviously once checked in, we had our own key to come and go as we pleased). Our room was on the top floor with a great view over where the Highland games would be played. The room was very clean and linen very fresh with plenty of tea and coffee making facilities and shortbread biscuits. The bathroom was a little on the small side and lighting made it a little difficult in the shower if you have poor vision, but it still had everything you needed. Breakfast was staggered so as not to over fill the dining room, however with only five rooms, it is not a bust place anyway. There is also plenty of tourist information with ideas on where to go and what to see in the room and the entrance lobby. There is no bar or restaurant for the evening, however the owners do have a bar and restaurant in the village called The Cairn Grill Restaurant & Bar which offered hearty meals after a day exploring, and, at the time we visited, were offering 10% discount to guests of Moorfield House. Should we be lucky enough to return to Braemar, we would stay here again.

Response from Grant Mason, Owner at Moorfield House

Hi Tim & Matt Thank you for your review, we are very pleased you enjoyed your time with us. The lighting in the shower is to be addressed hopefully before we reopen after this lockdown with new extractors and new lighting, so hopefully everything will be nice and bright. The bathrooms are all small in our property a point that is noted quite a lot on reviews and also on our own website, with the exception of the family room which is a separate building, as the main part of the house dates back to 1851 the conversion from house to B&B back in the 1970's meant the bathroom size was limited a little in order to try and maximize space in the bedrooms. we look forward to welcoming you back if you are ever in the National Park

Despite being wet and muddy cyclists, we were welcomed inside. Room was really cosy and the whole hotel was warm and inviting. It has a clearly Scottish theme without being over the top and cliched, and I found myself wishing we were staying for a while and not just one night. The owners were really friendly and arranged for us to eat despite the Covid restrictions. We had steak and chips from their restaurant (Cairn grill, Braemar) delivered to the hotel. It was divine and excellent value. I have never seen such a huge steak, and it was perfectly cooked. Lots of Covid mitigations in place too. Felt very safe. Highly recommend.

Beautiful guest house a few minutes walk from the village centre through the Highland games arena. Nice room with a great shower and views over the arena. The continental breakfast bag was ample and kept us going for the day, and Maria was everything you could want from a host. We would definitely stay here again 😊

We had a great experience at Moorfield House. The staff (they may have been the owners actually) were consistently friendly and nice and were happy to chat about the area and our plans. The room was clean and tidy. It's not large and nothing fancy, but given the location and price we were very pleased. Our only downside was one side of the mattress had slightly dodgy springs which meant my wife kept sliding towards the floor all night. The breakfasts were excellent, simple local food but well cooked and generous portions in a nice restaurant with good views (we even saw some red squirrels on one day). The whole place is only a ten minute walk max into Braemar along well-lit roads with pavements, so it's a great location for the village and the surrounding beautiful countryside and mountains. Strongly recommended.

Really enjoyed our stay at Moorfield House. The room, although compact, was clean and well presented. There wasn’t a tv in the room which was a shame, however there was one in the general room downstairs, along with board games. Hosts very welcoming and good breakfast. The guest house is a short 10 minute walk to the centre of Braemar which is ideal for nights out. Would stay again.
