if you want to know what a place is like where the staff have simply given up, this is it. We dropped in by chance to see if they had a table for dinner - which they did and we can see why. Disinterested staff, terrible service. The bottle of wine was sent back as it was straight out of the box, not fridge. The genera feeling was the staff resented the customers for interupting their slouching on the "welcome" desk. Food was overcooked and tough. The hotel had been on our short-list when planning our trip. I've never been so glad to not be staying somewhere in my life.
Made a late booking for 2 nights. Had a large room overlooking the harbour. Extremely comfortable room. Excellent breakfast and dinner and very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again.
Has a social club feel and restaurant looks like a canteen, that said excellent Guinness Served and barman was a real character, Sean Paul. We had some good banter within Sean and he looked after us on a few occasions. Good for watching sports with lots of TVs. Limited food menu but it hits the spot. Decent Pizzas for £10.
I had not yet ventured to the Isle of Skye before and this was the perfect place to set a base. My friend and i stayed for 3 nights and this was perfect. The hotel staff were great at giving us recommendations of where to go for walks and food - the Oyster Shed is a must. We also dinned in the restaurant for two of the nights. I am vegan and was originally apprehensive to what options may be available but they were very accommodating and had a delicious veggie burger. The room we stayed in had a wonderful view over the water and we were lucky enough to have the most amazing weather, so beautiful sunsets were witnessed! Thanks to the whole Royal Hotel team for being so helpful !
I booked this hotel based upon reviews and the website. It was part of a tour of Scotland and at £237 per night one of the more expensive hotels. It managed to be the worse one by a long way. Breakfast was served in what can only be described as a works canteen and I am probably being unkind to many works canteens. The restaurant seemed to be closed which at least through the window had some light coming in. Access to the carpark was described as enter this code in, this turned out to be an old combination lock attached to a chain ! The whole hotel had a tired and dispiriting feel about it. We will not return and I would suggest there are better optiosn in the area.
