We booked this room based on the photos on the website. “Parking” non existent, there is on street parking for the guesthouse but this is occupied by people not staying in the guesthouse so you have to park half a mile away and cart your bags to the property. There is no one manning the hotel reception, so anyone can park there. Old and run down, whole place smells like mould. Property should be described as “a hostel” No one at reception so keys are left outside the property in full view of the street so anyone can just wander in and roam the guesthouse, not great security measures at all. I took one look at the room in which you could only open the front door part way before you hit the bed so you had to squeeze in. “En-suite” isn’t even big enough to contain the sink so this is plonked outside the door. I have bigger closets in my house than this room. I walked in and swiftly walked back out and choose to make the 6 hour drive home instead and cut my trip short by a day. £91 to stay here. DEFINITELY NOT! Also, when making the booking it had breakfast included and received a follow up email at a later date telling us that it was no longer included and you can “find a restaurant 3 minutes away”. Oh great, so how about a part refund for services you have retracted? No? Absolute disgrace!…
We booked a Scottish Road trip months ago on the bet that restrictions would lift when we travelled. So at the time it was normal to be advised that there was no food service or regular cleaning and that check in would be contactless. But our bet paid off and restrictions were lifted more than 2 weeks ago, so our travel experience has been “normal” save some mask measures still in place. At least until we got to Coolin View. For a place praised for their hospitality, they’re clearly in no hurry to get back to business. It’s still a raging pandemic in this building. Check in was via an envelope containing keys at the door. Our warm welcome was via QR code. When we got to our room, we discovered a sad plastic bin of instant porridge and a single banana and orange (there are 2 of us). The toilet was still unscrubbed, blue cleaner dripping into the bowl and a caterpillar had taken up residence in the shower. I called the owner, who agreed this was unacceptable and that he’d be there in 15. Instead, I opened the door to an angry woman who shrugged and indicated the bucket in her hand by way of greeting. She then proceeded to furiously scrub and bang in the bathroom - I clearly should’ve scrubbed my own toilet - and then left again without a word. We then wandered out into a bank holiday weekend without anyone to give us recommendations or help us with bookings. Turns out that literally every restaurant in town was fully booked - which isn’t normally a problem when you stay at a local B&B with a friendly and knowledgeable host to help. Returned last night to find the TV broken. Texted the owner, who replied 3 hours later that he’d send out an engineer. I’m sure it’s much easier to run a B&B this way. But 2 weeks after restrictions have lifted and now they’re just taking the piss. So until they get themselves sorted and re-enter the hospitality business, I’d give this place a hard pass.…
Due to Covid there was a virtual check-in where an envelope with your name on was in a basket in the porch.. I had a single room with a harbour view. The room was bijou but adequate, with hanging space along with a desk and foldaway chair and a large comfy bed. The view was brilliant and clear and you could sit up in bed watching the boats in the harbour. No breakfast is served here but there are plenty of places in Portree. The room did have hot drink facilities and some snacks. There are parking spaces in front for hotel guests but be prepared to look for street parking as some cars in the private car park hogged two places.
The Coolin View guest house was superb. We managed to get one of the parking bays 6 metres from the front door.A spotlessly clean room, classy decor, fresh white linen, lovely comfy bed and a great looking toilet/shower room with a funky digital mirror. What isn't there to like about this place. With a view overlooking the brightly painted buildings on the harbour and the sun coming up over the hills this was a gem that is well worth staying at.ger
Travelling during a pandemic perhaps not one of my better ideas. Many places closed on Skye and pre-booking required for meals out - so no spontaneity. Anyway, moving on... I had a comfortable stay at Coolin View. The room was very clean with a lovely view over Portree. Immaculate bathroom with plenty of hot water. Breakfast tray was fine - I was apprehensive about this concept when I booked the room! But Items for the tray restocked when / if required so it all worked.
