This is our third return to Kilmeny and we certainly weren’t disappointed. Margaret and Blair are exceptionally friendly and make the most superb hosts. We have stayed in many accommodations of this standard but Kilmeny stands above any others. We had a spacious ground floor room which opens to the lovely grounds. Tubs overflowing with summer flowers and lovely seating on the lawns with delightful views in each direction. Our room had a small seating area by the bay window with a small decanter (complimentary) of whiskey and binoculars for watching out for wildlife. We have seen hares on the beautifully maintained driveway which leads to the house. Beautiful comfortable bed and bedding. The bathroom has a separate shower and a large roll top bath and television which makes for a leisurely soak. Lovely selection of toiletries. I could go on see previous reviews which detail the lovely dining room and superb breakfasts. Highly recommend Kilmeny for an enjoyable place to stay.

Way beyond Superb ! 845167562 After travelling throughout Europe , America and the UK, leading bird watching groups, I really thought we had seen and experienced everything the hospitality industry had to offer. That is what we thought until a recent 3 night stay on Islay at Kilmeny Country House changed all that. Margaret and Blair's personal charisma, attention to detail , exceptional location , cleanliness, quality and the stunning breakfast that we have never experienced before have all contributed to make this B&B , without a doubt, the best we have ever stayed in. Thank you for your care and attention during our stay ! Ken Reeves.

This reminds us of staying at Gleneagles or Inverlochy Castle. Such charm, such thoughtfulness and detailed attention to all those small things that turn five stars into six. Amazingly wonderful, and t is absolutely clear that Margaret and Blair really , really care about all their guests.

Stayed for 3 nights in June, from the outset we were very impressed with Kilmeny house. The grounds are beautifully kept and the the surrounding scenery is both serene and tranquil. When we arrived Margaret greeted us and had a wee chat with us before showing us to our room. We stayed in the Apricot room the first two nights and it must be said the the room exceeded both of our expectations. The furnishings, carpets, drapes, pillows and bedding were off the finest quality, and kept in immaculate conditions. The en-suite was spacious with a lovely deep bath. Awaiting us in our room were homemade cakes and biscuits to accompany our tea as well as complimentary crystal decanter of the local whiskey. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the breakfast set a new standard in excellence for us both! A wide assortment of delicious cereals/fruits and mueslis were on offer at the buffet, the cooked breakfast was served with morning cake or biscuits and the dinning room itself was furnished to the highest standard. Our third night was in the Rose room which was perhaps twice the size of the apricot room and was just as immaculately presented! Both Blair and Margaret were everything one could hope for in a host, they were attentive, considerate and made a point of remembering everyone's name. On a few occasions when coming back from an outing they more than happy to stop and chat and pass the time of day with us. I would say without hesitation that our stay at Kilmeny house stands head and shoulders above any hotel/BB experience we've had in our life. Both my wife and I have very fond memories from our time here and look forward to a return trip in the future.

You really couldn’t find anything better than this beautiful B&B. Margaret and Blair are the perfect hosts and have thought of absolutely everything with lovely little extra touches. Breakfast was superb. If you are going to Islay, don’t miss stay anywhere else.

We felt welcome, relaxed and looked after from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. This B&B topped a wonderful 5 days on a beautiful and exceptionally friendly island. Beautiful property, wonderfully maintained where everything appears to have been thought of! Margaret and Blair provide a master class on how hospitality should be done, their care and interest so obviously genuine. What a treat!

I visited Islay in June as a much-needed break after a couple of years of intense work and to recover from a couple of health issues. On searching around there was plenty of choice of quality accommodation on the island but as someone who has traveled a lot and come to prefer the smaller and more personal hotels, Kilmeny seemed a perfect choice. A brief conversation with the lovely owner Margaret confirmed that they had the perfect room for me with a lovely walk-in shower and this was confirmed by some pictures sent to me before I booked. I booked directly with the owner and my room was confirmed. On arrival, I was greeted by Margaret and her husband Blair, a charming couple who have clearly mastered the art of providing hospitality, and they very kindly transported my bags to my room. Their property is set on a working farm and is away from the main road and along a tree-lined driveway, it’s an impressive location and property and maintains all the charm and comfort of a well-loved family home. The extremely tasteful decor and furnishings all add to country house charm and once settled in my room, I started to relax immediately and soak up the feeling that I was for sure going to enjoy the week ahead. A well-appointed tea/coffee tray with some delicious home backing was waiting for me along with some fresh milk in the included fridge. Once I unpacked and settled in with my fresh cup of tea, I found a further welcome surprise with the provision of the cutest little whiskey decanter and glass I've ever seen, a nice welcome dram of Laphroaig with a personal welcome note from the host, what a fabulous surprise and a very welcome wee nippy sweetie. The bed was comfortable, and the quality of the cushions and bed linen simply beautifully presented with lovely handmade pillow covers and a lovely tweed throw on the bed, even the towels in the bathroom are of a very high standard and were as soft as could be, my wife has been instructed to replicate this in our own house since. After a peaceful night, I wandered down to breakfast at my agreed time slot, no risks here as they have taken Covid measures seriously, and to ensure distancing in the lovely breakfast room we were asked to adhere to appointed times to arrive for a morning feast. Presented by a Michelin Star quality table setting complete with a lovely teapot complete with its cosy, fresh homemade bread toasted to perfection and even a wee treat of some home backing as pancakes or hot-cross bun style bread, all of which was expertly baked by Margaret who has presented some of the finest home baking I've ever eaten and believe me, I've had my share lol. Once seated and ready for a good feed, Margaret took the time to introduce all the guests to one another, a lovely personal touch that for sure started some interesting conversations about days to come and activities past, a lovely way to further enhance the relaxed and homely feel The breakfast choice is extensive, from lovely homemade fruit-based appetizers and cereals, the homemade bircher Muesli or if you are feeling brave, the outstanding full Scottish made with top quality ingredients all grilled to taste and served with lashings of tea or coffee, fruit juices, jam, and marmalade for the toast. This quality of service in my view far exceeds the 5 stars given, I just cannot describe the level of personal care and pride in the presentation of the breakfast event, as for sure it is an event worthy of such high praise from a family who clearly enjoy what they do, nothing is too much trouble and the quality of the food is simply outstanding, I only wish they would offer an evening meal but then again we can't always have what we wish for lol. Sadly my week was over far too quickly, and it was time to leave, I was sad to be leaving my little haven as for sure I had been spoiled far more than I could ever have expected but there is no doubt that I will return, and it won't be in the too distant future. To sum the experience up would be to say that a family had welcomed me into their home for a week, provided me with every comfort needed to relax and enjoy their outstanding hospitality, sparing no expense to ensure my utmost comfort and doing so with such clear pleasure in doing so, truly a little gem on an island paradise. I will be back.

We were lucky enough to book a last minute 3 night stay here and everything about it was wonderful. The greeting and ongoing hospitality were amazing. The decoration was beautiful and there were too many thoughtful small details to list. We highly recommend staying here and we hope we’ll be to return in the future.
