Stayed from 29th Dec to 2nd Jan in deluxe loch view room. Fantastic location and view, room has what is needed for a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Staff were fantastic hosts. Bar in the evening was great too - particularly on NYE. Recommended for a stay on Islay.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights from the 30 Dec to 2 Jan and we were really impressed with all the friendly and attentive staff! the hotel is perfectly located to enjoy the hogmanay experience here and the hogmanay dinner at the hotel was very keenly priced and most enjoyable. the hotel is clean and tidy and all the food we had was absolutely delicious and served with a smile . we’ll be back x
Reserved a sea view room. 90% of that view was the roof of the restaurant. The room is EXCEPTIONALLY small with no room for luggage, no closet, no place to put clothing. Very put off by a lot of mold in the shower. It would have taken 15 min to scrub off; I would NEVER let a guest stay in a room with a moldy shower like that, and the shower door did not close! (See pic) So..that made for some fun trying to avoid flooding the floor. Plus: Bed was comfortable, and the evening wait staff was very nice and great at their job. The waitress for the morning (during the week) REALLY put us off though. Her demeanor is pleasant, but then she disappears and hangs out in the kitchen the ENTIRE time instead of caring for guests. It really put us off, because her actions were speaking so much more loudly than her words.…
Friendly staff, good food and an astonishing 1800 whiskies on the shelf. Belhaven Best is the best draught at first sight. The interior is plastered with cupboards filled with Islay whiskies and the view at Lochindaal is great.
Great value for money. Service impeccable and friendly. Choice of food for adult and children covered all foodies including vegetarian. Food home made and delicious. Beautiful view of the harbour and decorated beautifully for the evenings. Highly recommend
Just enjoyed a fabulous meal in The Lochside Bowmore. Seafood was just amazing. Scallops for starter and seabass for main. Thoroughly recommend. Burgers too come highly recommended as does the view from the restaurant window.
Room very small, bathroom only fit for 1 but marketed as a double and overpriced. Marks on walls, dirty marks on bathmat, dirty grouting and minimal housekeeping. Toilet seat loose a problem that could have been sorted in five minutes, the hairdryer had obviously overheated at some point and the nozzle had partially melted, luckily I had brought my own so didn't risk using it. A fire alarm during the night and the staff, who had arrived to prepare breakfast had no idea what to do. no fire brigade, no roll call, very fortunate it was a false alarm or it could have been a very nasty suituation. No way did these premises live up to the description on their website and certainly very overpriced for the experience. The weekend was saved by the fact that the restaurant was very good, beautiful view over Lochindaal, very nice food and pleasant staff. The only down side the 10% service charge which was added autimatically and then removed if you asked. A sneaky way to get a tip and the whole experience was not worth an extra 10%. The customer shoud be allowed to decide what gratuity to give.…
We have ate here on many visits to Islay and had always enjoyed the lovely view over Lochindaal and good quality pub food. This was our first visit with a dog and we were happy when we called to try to reserve a table that they advised they were pet friendly. When we arrived for lunch there were only 2 other tables occupied and we asked if we could sit next to the window, however, we were advised with pets we could only sit at the back of the restaurant close to the bar as people may have allergies. We were disappointed with this, as this area was dull and drab and if someone has an allergy then being in the same open plan area, whether it be within 10 or 20 ft the effect is likely to be the same. Had we been advised of this at the time of booking we wouldn’t have made a reservation. Visiting the Lake District often has probably spoiled us as 99% of restaurants, even the high end ones, allow pets and most often pets are far better behaved than children. We ordered food and it was tasty, the staff were good, but we felt like second class citizens hence the reason I only gave 3 stars and would probably not eat here on our next trip.…
I will start with the good things. Nice view from the restaurant. Waitresses were polite. Rooms recently decorated. Burgers were nice and pancakes. We paid a lot of money in peak season and chose this hotel as it looked like a nice location the pictures show the hotel from the back on lochside and not the busy street view at the front. When we arrived about 4pm and couldn't park near the hotel. the manager could not be bothered serving us at reception. The welcome was far from warm more barely tolerating customers . Our room (disabled access) had a door onto the main street in Bowmore like the hotel. He told us where to go from a computer in the back office. I had to ask where breakfast was and he said 7-9 "so get there early" . He said "do you want to book dinner?" And I said we would decide later. He also said the hotel is "unmanned at night time" which explains why there are no phones in the rooms. We went into the bar at 4.50 and asked if we could book for dinner and he said incredulously "for tonight. You'll be lucky" . I went to walk away and he looked at his book and said " it would have to be 5pm" feeling like Oliver twist I said that's fine. 2 parties arrived behind us and we're met with rudeness also. One got in and the others sent packing. While we ate only half the tables were used and only one poor waitress ran around like a headless chicken. We were told by a few people that there are staff shortages in hospitality on Islay. Perhaps if this had been explained politely with a bit of customer service it might have made communication better. That evening on a Wednesday in our streetside room ( 10) opposite a takeaway and next door to the pub the noise was horrendous from groups of kids outside, bottles smashing, cars beeping, people parking and sitting with car doors open shouting across the road pub patrons outside smoking and shouting and swearing outside our door. Bottles being emptied from the bar into the bottle bin until 1am. Loud music and shrieking. My 7 yr old son couldn't sleep and neither could I. Of course the hotel is "unmanned" at night - so don't bother complaining or trying to get another noisy room. I felt like I was in a ground floor bedsit in a busy City, not beautiful Islay for a relaxing break. Next day we arrived for breakfast. Having put in a special request 6 months ago on booking.com which this hotel agreed to that my husband is vegan with a nut allergy.... the "continental breakfast buffet" as described on the website was ....cold coffee in an urn, jam and two cereals. There is nothing vegan on the hot food menu and the waitress even suggested eggs. My husband had water, dry toast and jam for breakfast while my son and I had pancakes. I asked why nothing vegan was provided and the waitress said they had a problem getting soya milk and aren't allowed to use the coop where there is a large selection of vegan food and milks we saw when we were in. We were tempted to buy my husbands breakfast ftom the co-op and charge it back to them. She told others there were no bananas left for the banana pancakes on the menu. You are not allowed to have nice coffees from the coffee machine. My husband hated this hotel. The following days breakfast at 8.30 cold coffee again. There were 2 yoghurts and small croissants on the buffet table which weren't there the day before. My son and I took the croissants but then the 3 tables who came after us did not have any. There was a confused atmosphere at breakfast as you wait a long time to be seated and are lucky if you catch a glimpse of the one waitress. I asked for banana pancakes....nope no bananas...bit like wartime rations When we left the waitress checked us out without so much as a " how was your stay? I would not stay again and agree this is a pub with rooms and not a hotel.…
Have had dinner in the Lochside Hotel three times over the last week. Food was excellent as was the service. Staff friendly and helpful and the waitress pointed out to us that service charge was added. Young waiter working in his first night in avery busy restaurant did an amazing job.
