This was a beautiful place to spend the weekend! The tower is full of character and it was brilliant fun getting to explore the different levels and experience the history of the place. I would fully recommend a stay here to explore the area with attractions such as New Lanark only a few minutes drive away. The building its self...

Just returned from a great weekend spent at the Tower of Halbar which we booked through Little and Large Holiday Houses a self catering property agent. Got a lovely welcome hamper from the owner Ronald filled with wonderful goodies. The property was clean, very well presented and we took great enjoyment in exploring each level of the tower. The stairs...

We have Just returned after staying at the Tower of Hallbar with a group of frends and I would definitely go back. Staying in the building is a real experience with its battlements, a staircase that is inside 13ft think walls and bits of history everywhere you look. We booked our stay with Large Holiday Houses who are the letting...

A must stay place if you're visiting Scotland. Excellent place to stay to give you the feeling of how people lived 100's of years ago. Beautiful welcome basket filled with goodies when you arrive. All the conveniences of home but at the same time the rooms, stairs and lookout transform you back in time.

My family and I stayed here last September. It is hands down the most memorable place ever! It was the highlight of our trip. I will warn however that it is not for those who have problems moving around or the weak. The staircases are steep and uneven. Using the handrails are a must. You learn quickly to bring everything...

Some enjoyed the beautiful bedrooms in the Tower and others went to their homes to return the next day. the children enjoyed the experience enormously...

First, let me say that staying in a historic venue is amazing and I am very happy to have stayed at the Tower of Hallbar. A wonderful food basket awaited us and there was a vase of beautiful roses and lilies on the kitchen table. Everything was neat and clean. There are features that can be enhanced to make this...

We had a wonderful, amazing, magical stay at the tower. The setting was idyllic, close to shops and easy access to Edinburgh and Glasgow but the actual grounds were secluded and peaceful with a river running right outside and from the top of the tower, gorgeous rolling countryside could be seen. We were 2 families with 10,11 and 12 year...

Our stay at the Tower could not have been more magical. From our arrival complete with floral arrangements and gift basket to the easy departure, nothing could be improved upon. The restoration beautifully completed by obviously skilled craftsman. The location is close enough to both Edinburgh and Glasgow that both can easily be visited without the expense of an in...

My husband, two adult children, and I traveled to the UK over spring break 2014 so I could share many of my early 20's adventures and places I loved with them. The Tower of Hallbar was easily the highlight of our trip. We we charmed by the history of it, the comfort in a medieval tower like this was outstanding....

“You rent the entire castle/tower along with a cottage. If you struggle with stairs, you'll want to stay in the cottage, but don't miss the tower. We stayed on the top floor of the tower and it was absolutely amazing!”
