We recently enjoyed a pleasant stay at Shieldhill. As this was part of an Itison discount deal it was excellent value for money for the DB&B with a bottle of Prosecco. The hotel is in a lovely remote setting and the friendly staff provided a warm welcome. Our room was spacious although a tad chilly (despite the addition of a...

I went here for afternoon tea, in this beautiful building. The staff were lovely and very attentive. Cakes were delicious, but I was a bit disappointed with the sandwiches. It might have been the time of year as it was a Public Holiday. The staff and the surroundings made up for this though. Not bad value for money

Had a lovely afternoon tea here just before Christmas. Hotel beautifully decorated throughout. Staff so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Afternoon tea served in the dining room. Table attractively set. Food delicious. Sandwiches not so finely cut as other hotels but just the way we all liked them. Still dainty but with enough fillings that you could actually...

We stayed in this hotel for two nights whilst in the area for a wedding. The hotel is quite impressive from the outside and set in a lovely area. The inside of the main area of the hotel is traditional and in a reasonable condition although could do with updating here and there. Our issue was more to do with...

The "DBB plus a bottle of Prosecco" deal that we were on couldn't be bettered and that was what attracted us to Shieldhill. For those who like castles and baronial style mansions then this will hit the spot. It has a particular aura in winter, with its open fires in both the lounge and restaurant (but read on!), a cosy...

Attended recently for a family wedding. Main part of hotel fine but felt the room was overpriced slightly. Main complaint was that we were unable to open window for fresh air as it appeared to be painted shut. Also felt that to add to the "ambiance" of the room what looks like an original feature (window shutters) were inoperative (also...

Stayed here as a party of six to celebrate my mum's 70th Birthday. Cannot rank this venue highly enough. It is beautifully decorated and the staff are warm and welcoming. It has a really family-run relaxed feel that we really appreciated. Everything went according to plan and the team at the hotel could not have been more accommodating and helpful...

We stayed overnight for a Xmas party. This is the first time we have stayed in the stable block and we were impressed by the rooms. Good size and nicely done. Food and party night was good and our party enjoyed it. We had three rooms together and all three of us had no hot water at bathroom sinks. We...

This is a hotel with lots of plus points - lovely country location, big modern bedrooms pleasant old-world public rooms but it is let down badly by lack of attention to details. The rug in our bedroom looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The allocation of mediocre toiletries in the bathroom was mean. The 'old master' prints...
