This was our final stop on the North Coast 500. Dornoch is a beautiful village. The hotel looks great from the outside and a lovely cosy bar with a roaring fire welcomed us as we walked in. They have a huge selection of whisky! The bedroom was fine, if a little dated. However, the bathroom was really shabby. Rather than...

Nice hotel built in an old castle. Room are in new part of building. Room are nice and spacious. The hotel bar is just amazing , it is probably the biggest collection of whisky to choose from that I ever seen. Great place for overnight.

Tempted by a stay in an authentic Scottish building, I was excited to see what the Dornoch Castle offered so booked a (relatively) expensive deluxe room for my stay expecting to enjoy comfortable surroundings. Accepting that this is an old and authentic building, I understand that the decor/fittings would be quaint at best - but having paid a reasonable amount...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay, I can see from your reservation you were not in fact staying in one of our Deluxe rooms. It is always best when encountering issues during your stay to contact our reception as this is the only sure...

We stayed at the castle on a Friday and Saturday evening. We took advantage of their Spring offer - £50 for B&B with the proviso of spending £75 on food & drink. Upon arrival, we found a parking space right outside the door (great!) and, once checked in (at a rather awkward reception desk placed in the whisky bar), we...

I stayed in the extension part of the hotel, so this review is reflective on this room. I cannot comment on the castle rooms, which from previous reviews are very favorable. The room in this section of the hotel was very average and quite disappointing. The room was cold and the bathroom really cold. They did try to fix the...

We used an itison deal and it was good value. The food is really good especially the breakfast, and they have gluten free bread. The whiskey bar is very cosy and staff are all friendly and helpful. The beach nearby is worth visiting.

This was our fourth visit to the castle, we upgraded to the tower room and it was well worth the extra. Obviously being an old hotel there is no lift, so walking up 3 flights of stairs to our room while heavily pregnant wasn't easy, but it was worth it. The wood burner in room was absolutely lovely and easy...

Dornoch is not short of eating places within a couple of miles of the centre of the town. I can think of six others that I've eaten in and been happy to recommend. However I'd never been to the Dornoch Castle hotel before. Situated right in the middle of the town, on the main square and directly opposite the cathedral,...

I've been coming to Dornoch and visiting the Castle Hotel for over 30 years now ( as a 18year old onwards )... I have always found the staff very welcoming and friendly.. It's been a decade since my family or friends are at the hotel. I had low expectations I'm afraid ( don't know why), but I was very pleasantly...

We were staying in Dornoch with friends and although we always come here for drinks we never eat as had heard not great reviews. Well we had to change this as we ate here on Saturday night and our food was superb. From succulent venison to beautiful fried fish, not forgetting our huge plate of mussels to start, everything was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Castle is located in the historic town of Dornoch across from the stunning 13th century Cathedral, boasting stunning views of the town. The central position of the hotel makes it ideal for exploring Dornoch, home to the world famous Royal Dornoch Golf Course, which overlooks the breath taking golden sand beach. Dornoch is also well situated for those looking to explore more of what the Highlands have to offer. The historic Castle is built on the site of the original Bishop’s Palace of St Gilbert, who founded the Cathedral in the early 13th century. The building eventually sold on and in 1947 became a hotel after some extensive work, which maintain much of the character of the Castle as a stately, historic and comfortable home. The Castle boasts a total of 22 en-suite bedrooms situated both within the original castle and the modern garden extension. There is a variety of room types available including; standard, superior, deluxe and our award winning Old Courtroom. Due to the castle’s layout each bedroom has its own special ambiance, great care has been taking in creating a distinctive character in each bedroom. The Castle's restaurant has retained an AA rosette standard, through the exceptional work from the chefs. The malt whisky selection is second to none and can be enjoyed in the cosy stone-lined whisky bar with the roaring fire to protect you from the Scottish winds, in the summer the walled garden is the perfect setting to relax during the long summer nights. Coming Summer 2016: The Dornoch Distillery will be opening soon on the grounds of the Dornoch Castle Hotel producing 'Old Style' Whisky and Hand Crafted Organic Gin from scratch. ... more   less
